LOL. It is getting late in the summer here (although we just started getting “normal” temperatures in the 90’s) and I associate TF Extreme with Autumn, my favorite season.
We totally skipped our “normal” 90s temperatures this year…I don’t mind fall so much but feel like we got cheated out of summer.
I completely agree with you Robin. I live in Baltimore and although it was a beautiful summer, it was cool–totally unlike the hot, muggy, humid summers we usually have.
Today is warmer than any day we had in July or August.

Today I wore PdN Just un Reve as it’s beginning to be spring. Lots of rain lately but today was mostly sunny.
It’s rather cool tonight so I decided to try Tauer’s Rose Vermeille again. First time I tried it it was hot and it almost killed me, but as much as I want to like it there’s something sickly sweet about it that I can’t handle :-/
I did not love RV either, but now I can’t remember why.
I feel like it’s just not completely worked out, it feels a little messy and confused like an early draft.
Dear Elisa, tell you what 🙂 I have this feeling for all Tauer’s fragrances. There’s something “disorganized” in most of his releases – but hey, i’m a fragrance amateur, and my two pennies are whorth… two pennies, really. I’m probably among the minority that did not like L’Air du Desert. Oh well.

SOTD is Fruit Defendu by Terry de Gunzburg. I like the authenticity of the juicy ripe (with a capital R) mango and sweet pineapple. A little imaginary tropical island for the mid-week! 🙂

My scent of the day is Etat Libre d’Orange’s Rien. My favourite from the line and one of my topfavourite perfumes full stop.
It’s one of my favourite ELdO’s too, but I don’t always find it the easiest to wear. (although talking about it is making me want to wear it..)
I need a certain…strength to wear Rien, and to know I’m up for it for the whole day, ‘cos that’s how long it’s going to be around.
And the day after if you happen to get some on a pull that you plan to wear the other day.
Me it is the other way around; I find Rien intensely comforting and soothing and actually use it to give me strength.
SOTD is Mary Greenwell Lemon. Last night’s sample of the evening was Slumberhouse Ore, which was so cool in the beginning and then just died on me. So sad.
How do you like the MG Lemon? Her Plum is one of my absolute favorites, but I haven’t tried the Lemon yet.
I own a bottle of MG Lemon. I love it but I have a big caveat: I think lots of people who have tried it find it disappointing because it isn’t a citrusy, refreshing lemon at all. It’s a woody floral with lemon blossoms and jasmine and a kind of bright, juicy amber to suggest lemoniness in the base. It smells to me most like a bright room full of wood furniture that’s been rubbed down with lemon Pledge. (Except, of course, that sounds horrible. It’s not! IMO…)
I have a sample of Plum about but I haven’t gotten to it yet to compare!
Yikes! Lemon Pledge?!! I have a sample of something else that I recall describing as “Lemon Pledge,” although now I’ve completely forgotten what it was, and that was not a good thing. However, I’m not completely discouraged about MG Lemon. I think I’ll just move it lower on the “to try” list. Thank you!

Another vote for MG Plum. I’ve gone through two purse spray revills already and really just need to get a bottle. Oh, and maybe that candle. It looks so nice.
I just had a weird experience. I put on a little Guerlain Oriental Brulant from a dabber sample. Oddly, it smelled not much like a “hot oriental” and more like a big clean white musk. I decided to mix the full sample with some unscented lotion and spread over my arms. Now I can barely smell it at all, but what I do smell is more like what it’s supposed to be (a faint almond note). I wonder if there’s a masking agent in the lotion (basic Lubriderm) that obliterated the musk?
You may be on to something. When I use lotion (cetaphil in my case) it often seems to erase the scent I’ve applied. I’ve heard that many “unscented” lotions have ingredients in them to make them not smell… or remove the natural smell of the ingredients.
Have you tried using lotion on a scrubber? Maybe that’s the secret!

I’ve done that before. I found kind of by accident one day that if I put lotion over a perfume I didn’t like, it would at least mask the perfume, if not make it completely go away.
I’ve had the same experience. I read somewhere that many cosmetic ingredients don’t smell good. Therefore, “unscented” lotions have fragrance compounds that mask the unpleasant scents without being evident as fragrances themselves. IIRC, “fragrance free” lotions actually have no fragrance compounds at all but may have some scent from the cosmetic ingredients.
I never remember which is which between unscented and fragrance free!
I’ve had good luck with Curel Fragrance Free. Worth a try, and it’s a nice lotion, even if you find you can’t use it with perfume.
I do have some of that! I don’t like it as much as Lubriderm for moisturization purposes but I will use it for perfume mixing.
I’m wearing Diptyque’s body oil, the iris and cedar scented one. I might put something on over it later but right now it’s holding up pretty well on its own.
THis sounds gorgeous! It it just Diptyque Oil, or does it have a name? Is it part of the all purpose body line they sell?
It’s the “Precious Oils For Body & Bath” from their L’Art du Soin line. They do really generous-sized samples of this and the other body products—I got a bunch of them when I ordered some gifts last year and just haven’t tried them all yet.

Just received some decants of three of the new Le Galion’s and taking 222 out for a spin today. So far, I like it, a lot. Getting smoky woods and touch of leather and definitely unisex.
I’ve broken into my Tubereuse (gorgeous stuff. Definitely reworked from the original, as that was apparently a big indolic beast – this is green and, if not actually virginal, certainly on the innocent side for a tuberose scent), but haven’t touched Whip yet.
Tubereuse is up next 🙂 I liked what I sniffed, looking forward to see how it drives, lol
I like the 222 a lot, though it may need reapplication sooner than I’d hoped. May not be as tenacious as others.
SOTD is Chanel No 19 EDT. Very nice.
I bought Chanel No. 5 Body Lotion yesterday. Today I’m wearing it, applied liberally to both arms. I spritzed one arm with Chanel No. 5 edp and the other with Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. For experimental purposes, I’m trying to see which fragrance interacts better with the body lotion.
Verrrrry interesting, Professor Barqs. Do let us know the result of this experiment.

This one is a chameleon on me, sometimes it is drop dead gorgeous and other times it isn’t nearly as dramatic. But still has possibilities as fb worthy.
I’ll go with 7 virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom again today. I just read a little write up on their new Patchouli scent and the owner said she was inspired by hippie scents of the sixties and “wanted this scent to symbolize that care free peace and love.” I take it this isn’t going to be a watered down Patchouli scent.
Sampling Gujarat from Olympic Orchids which started as a spicy leather and is now a softer spice with possibly some sandalwood. Nice.
My SOTD is Sun’s Eye Mystic Blends Love Drawing Oil (LDO). You can imaging the psychedelic drawings on the bottle 🙂 I purchased it from a bookstore many years ago. It is a rose fragrance and there are rose petals in the bottle. Rose soliflores usually bore me, but I really like this one, but I did not know why. I showered with Lush’s Rose Jam shower gel this morning, and now I realize that LDO reminds me of Rose Jam – another fruity, jammy rose. Does the LDO draw love to me? Well, I wore it once and both my husband and my best friend hugged me, inhaled deeply, and murmured “mmmm, you smell good.” They were going to hug me anyway, but still …

Mmmmmmm …. Eau Sauvage, still one of my husband’s favourites all these years later, even though it’s not quite as lovely as it was once.
I’ve been having a Dior phase lately and recently got samples of Diorama and Diorling. Today I am wearing Diorling which is rapidly making me fall in love with it as it softens down from a smooth chypre to a soft incense.
I know this isn’t Yesterday’s Perfumes, but I wore the Diorama yesterday and was absolutely flabbergasted by its similarity to Diorella – possibly more like Diorella than modern Diorella is nowadays. Wonderful!
I almost chose Dune today! I think I’ll be a Dune girl tomorrow..

I think I am going to wear Dior’s Eau Fraiche tomorrow as the weather in the UK is about to warm up again. But if it is still chilly I think I will repeat the Diorling.
Diorling is so pretty. I mean, it’s odd to call a leather scent “pretty,” but Diorling is.
It’s very hot here today, but I’m alone in the house and just had a good spray or two of Guerlain Parure EDT. It’s just gorgeous, but I love the old-fashioned chypres and wanted to see what this one would do in the heat.
Tell us how it does – I love my chypres and I am so fond of Parure and wish I had more than a smidgeon left. Don’t want to waste it.
Eau de Shalimar. Now I might refres it with Ode à la Vanille.

Today I’m wearing Carnal Flower. Lovely (although smells like a basketball to my husband) scent. Really enjoy the spice in this!
It’s funny how scent smells different to different people, my husband can’t smell En Passant at all, and hates most SL scents except Iris Silver Mist.
According to Fragrantica, Carnal Flower features ylang ylang. Lots of folks say that ylang ylang smells like rubber. Wikipedia says that “Nearly all basketballs have an inflatable inner rubber bladder, generally wrapped in layers of fiber and then covered with a tacky surface made either from leather (traditional), rubber, or a synthetic composite.”
SOTD is Chanel Bois des Iles, my very favorite. Needed to feel confident today!

Wearing Onda Voile de Extrait today from a spritz sample- in the 10-15 seconds it took me spritz, return the vial to my dresser, and take a single step away, Onda has taken me on a magical ride!
This lovely thing just morphs in that short space of time into several different things- its the olfactory equivalent of an ocular psychedelic kaleidoscope!

I’m having a bit of a vintage week this week and chose Carven’s Ma Griffe from a 70’s era bottle I found at our neighborhood garage sale in June, of all places. I didn’t wear this myself back in the 70’s, but one of my sorority roommates did and the first spritz conjured her up as completely as any medium could have done. Nan had a head of soft golden brown curls and a laugh so delightful that you would think of funny things to say just to make her use it. Nan died from breast cancer in 1985 and big chunk of the joy in this world left along with her. I love you, girlfriend, and miss you very much. So happy to have your scent again after all these years.
How nice that you found a bottle of the perfume that reminds you of your friend! My Ma Griffe came from my sister, who likewise died from cancer. They both had good taste.

Since I don’t know if I have every sniffed Ma Griffe, when I do I know I will think of Your Nan and Robin’s Sister and give a moment of silence for women with good taste and great laughs.
I lost a dear friend (also from cancer) who wore Ma Griffe. A small amount is necessary to have around, but I never wear it. (The same is true of Shalimar, for the same reason.) Both scents are so associated with my friends that I never wore them during their lifetimes and now only spritz paper occasionally when I need to recall them. Many happy memories.

I have my new Le Galion Tubereuse (the recent reissue, which is new to me) on one wrist and Fracas (which is not new to me) on the other.
It continues to puzzle me how everyone calls Fracas THE TUBEROSE SCENT, when really it is stuffed full of orange blossom as well as tuberose. Hyacinth in the mix too.
funny, was just testing Fracas edp the other day, and I got quite a peach note (which didn’t bother me–sometimes synthetic peach is a note I can’t abide). Wonder if the extrait is more or less tuberose-y?
Have never tried the extrait, only the edp. But I don’t think Piguet is known for tweaking its formulae between parfum and edp the way Chanel and Guerlain do. Somebody correct me if I am wrong!

Okay, found at least two reviews that state that the parfum is smoother and quieter (no surprise there, that just seems to be the nature of parfum). Also that the parfum seems better balanced, and the sandalwood in the base is more prominent.
I like Fracas but I don’t love it – the orange blossom pushes it way Dove-soapy on me, which is the opposite of the big diva thing most people get.
hmm…wish the extrait was easier to test. Oh well, Carnal Flower will scratch the tuberose itch!

Your research seems right Mals, I have both Fracas edp and parfum, and find the parfum smells the same but is quieter.
I have an old sample of Le Galion Snob which I haven’t tested for a while, but I recall thinking it was gorgeous and too bad no longer available. I’ll have to check this out and see if Snob is part of the new line.
Dior’s Eau Savauge Fraicheur Cuir. Love it and using it very sparingly.
It’s awfully good, isn’t it? I have a sample but stupidly did not buy a full bottle when I had the chance. Etat Libre d’Orange’s Je Suis Un Homme is a pretty decent substitute when you run out.
Wearing Montale Soleil de Capri. I must have gotten this in a swap. Sounded summery so I tried it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it mentioned on the blogs but yesterday, I believe it was someone’s SOTD here! It’s OK, nothing I need to get more of. Certainly not what I think of when I think Montale.
Rodin Olio Lusso perfume today–I wanted jasmine and this will give it to me for the two hours it lasts. Then I might put on Sarrasins.
Today’s scent is TBS Satsuma perfume oil in a miserably failing attempt to convince myself I’m not as tired as I feel due to being up most of the night with a teething infant. Maybe I’ll put on some YSL Paris later to counteract the unglamourous ‘so sleep deprived I could pack for a trip with my under eye bag situation’ look. Yawns.
I love Satsuma! I just bought a fresh bottle of the shower gel the other day to wake me up in my morning showers.
I can sympathize! Teething is the worst. I have 13 month old twins and they must be getting their premolars. Not fun at all. I know it’s no comfort, but at least you only have to deal with one set of teeth ; )

I’m wearing AG Nuit Étoillée EdP. I confess the real reason that I bought it was the beautiful blue bottle, but, fortunately, the perfume itself is growing on me. It’s very much like the fabulous seasonal AG Noël parfum d’ambience, but sweeter and with more light musk, of course.
The pine and almost marshmallow-like musk is an unusual and somewhat contradictory combination, so it’s a weird scent, even though it’s so pretty. It’s like a Takashi Murakami cartoon version of a Christmas tree decorated with sugar plums.
(A google image search shows that Murakami did Christmas packaging for Shu Uemura in 2013, but that has a white tree on a gold background with multicolor hearts, not quite what I am imagining.)
Your Takashi Murikami tree idea made me chuckle! Gosh, Nuit Etoilee does sound amazing. I really need to try it since it’s so reasonably priced and the season for such fragrances is coming up.
I think they’ve sent the blue bottles to discounters now that the new AG packaging is on the way. This is definitely a good time to pick up any AGs on one’s wish list.

A Fragrancenet (not affiliated) box appeared just now at my office and I am delightedly digging through my new beauties. Small bottles of SJP’s Lovely, Infusion d’Iris and Bill Blass’ Nude, as well as samples of Jean Louis Scherrer, Scherrer 2, Minotaure, and a mini of Bal a Versailles.
I am so haaaaaappy right now….

Wheeeeee! Lovely is now on one arm, Nude on another. Nude is my first totally unsniffed purchase, but it was only $15, so I felt like it was a decent investment. Besides, if I’m going to start swapping, I need to have some goodies to share.
Great selection – that’s a lot of perfume joy in one box! I’ve always been curious about Minotaure but have never tried it – would love to hear what you think of it after you have a chance to test it.

Very interesting…I’m getting a kind of fruit-tinged, boozy leather (I think?) right now at the beginning. I can definitely see that this would work well on a man. I’m not yet particularly gifted at picking out notes, but I would say that I like this, and though it isn’t necessarily a “me” scent, I do enjoy it.
A few minutes later, I’m getting more sandalwood… I think. Can my nose yet be trusted? Uncertain…

Started off the day with JLo Still. It faded early (hot today). It’s a day where I am not in the office, so just a bit ago I was browsing my perfume drawer and realized that I have samples of both the Annick Goutal Songes EDP and EDT.
So now my right arm = EDP and left arm = EDT and I smell luscious. This is not a full bottle scent for me, mostly because it is not something I would wear often enough to justify the cost, but if I WERE to buy it would be the EDT. Can’t pinpoint the reason, just the one I am drawn to sliiiightly more.

Songes is gorgeous! I wear that most in the late winter/early spring. I have a small 15 ml bottle of the edt, and the large “moon” bottle of the edp. I kind of went nuts a few years ago when I was concerned it may not be available anymore, or in the US. It is super rich and one of my favorite wee bit of skank fragrances.

Topped it all off with no. 5 about an hour ago and loving my perfume filled day.
SOTD is Infusion D’Iris EDP, one of my favorites. Has anyone noticed that it doesn’t last very long, or is that just me?
Infusion d’Iris is one that I don’t wear often but it seems like during the spring and dog days of summer, it really doesn’t last long. It really is okay in terms of staying power.
I find that when I spray heavily (8-10 sprays, really not so much for me) it lasts for quite a while.
After reading “Perfume for Life” on this blog, I often wondered when 10 sprays (!!!) at a time would work. So now I know – when I buy Infusion d’Iris, I can spray with abandon and expect to use up the bottle within months not years. Yay for using up full bottles fast! 😉 Makes room for more . . .
So surprised by these responses… I only do two sprays, and it lasts around 12 hours. I find it quiet, certainly, but extremely persistent.
2 sprays also lasts for 8-10 hours on me.
After wearing De Profundis for the past couple days after putting an elderly dog to sleep, I am scentless right now. I am thinking of Dia though.

That’s a thoughtful way to mark the days. I think it is good to use a special scent to mark an important time. I like to revisit some scents that I no longer wear for that reason – fragrance can really take me back to a particular time and place. Best wishes to you!

SOTD is Guerlain L’Heure Bleue EDP. It’s the second day of sampling it and I’m not sure how I feel about it! It is so sharp and weird initially; I kept thinking of those pink candy losegnes that we used to eat as kids. Strange! But the dry-down is pretty.
Guerlain’s Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue were difficult ones for me to ‘get’. At first, I couldn’t get past Mitsouko’s huge peach note and L’Heure Bleue’s cloves and powder. Sometimes things need to tested over a period of time.
My SOTD is another one from Imaginary Authors–“Violet Disguise”.
Today I am layering Illuminated Perfumes To Bee and SL Chene. Excellent combination, To Bee softens Chene and dirties it up just a tad. On another note, I’m looking for a green perfume featuring ivy… any suggestions?
There’s a Diptyque one with ivy- Eau de Lierre. I haven’t tried it yet myself but will do as I’m also in a bit of a non-galbanum green phase. It seems a few diptyques do the green thing, like Virgilio.
I think DS & Durga has an ivy scent–Boston Ivy? Ivy & ? (Sorry, If I open my browser to look it up, Bloglovin will update and then I’ll have to search for this post.)

I don’t get the love for Elie Saab. I tried it but it just smells like a million other current releases to me. I must be missing something..
