Penhaligon’s will launch the Trade Routes Collection, with three fragrances inspired by "the luxurious and decadent commodities which were traded through London’s historic docks at the turn of the 19th Century": Empressa, Levantium and Lothair.
Empressa (shown) ~ developed by perfumer Mike Parrott and inspired by pearls and precious fabrics. The notes feature blood orange, bergamot, mandarin, peach, cassis, dewberry, rose, neroli, geranium, cardamom, pink pepper, black pepper, vanilla, cocoa, frankincense, amber, musk, woods, patchouli, sandalwood and maltol.
Levantium ~ developed by perfumer Christian Provenzano and inspired by rum and spices. The notes include bergamot, davana, saffron, absinthe, rose, jasmine, violet, clove, cardamom, ylang ylang, peach, amber, myrrh, guaiacwood, sandalwood, cedarwood, oud, patchouli, musk, maltol and vanilla.
Lothair ~ developed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and inspired by tea clipper ships. With red berries, juniper berry, cardamom, bergamot, grapefruit, fig leaf, fig milk, lavender, magnolia, geranium, black tea, vanilla, musks, cedarwood, ambergris, wenge and oakmoss.
Penhaligon's Trade Routes Collection will debut in September, £120 each, size and concentration unknown.

I’ve yet to try Tralala, but I’ve been really impressed with recent launches by Penhaligon’s and I think the direction the merged Penhaligon’s/L’Artisan Parfumeur is going in may be pretty good. I was worried about LAP but have heard some encouraging things about what may be coming down the pike.
These could be good, but they could be *anything* with that kitchen-sink list of notes for each. Empressa sounds particularly good for some reason. “Lothair” seems like an unfortunate name for a fragrance; I don’t care for it.
Gosh, hope you’re right about LAP…I thought even their latest video was drab.

Oh jolly good, something else for me to try in either Edinburgh or London later this year! Agree re the long list of ingredients – difficult to suss out dominant notes from the descriptions. Still not sure re the tie-up with l’Artisan, however – Penhaligon’s prices seem to be getting steeper, where once they were extremely good value for money given the quality of the product.
True, although also true that they’ve changed their style considerably…they are clearly reaching for a different market than the days of Artemisia & Bluebell & whatnot.
They have also added AS SAWARA to the trade routes collection as a ltd edition at £150 – it’s currently on Harrods website as their exclusive
