Papillon Perfumery Angelique, Anubis & Tobacco Rose ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 6 August 2014 7 Comments

Papillon Perfumery Angelique, Anubis & Tobacco Rose

Papillon Perfumery is the new UK-based indie line of perfumer Liz Moores. They debuted earlier this year with three fragrances: Angélique, Anubis and Tobacco Rose.

Angélique ~ "An astonishing floral chypre: a hymn to the beauty and majesty of iris pallida and its historic role in perfume. Opulent, rich but wonderfully fresh like the dewy scented aura of a magnificent southern French garden in the glory of spring. Cascades of golden mimosa, glowing white champac, hawthorn and delicate Chinese osmanthus surround the orris heart and light up the darker accords of myrrh, frankincense and cypress. A superbly ample and tenacious base is supported with Virginian and Atlas cedar."

Anubis ~ "Dedicated to the magic and mysteries of the ancient Egypt and the jackal-headed god Anubis, Guardian of the West Bank who presides over the embalming of the dead. Arcane, dark and exotic - rich in presence and ritual. Anubis is built around an accord of Nile pink lotus and Egyptian jasmine intensified with clove buds, spicy immortelles and saffron. Legendary oils used for millenia such castoreum, labdanum, benzoin and sandalwood blend intriguingly with bitter orange, suede and rose otto."

Tobacco Rose ~ "Elizabeth Moore's realisation of the perfect rose scent: sensual, full-blown, spilling out fragrance on the warm evening air. Rich in spicy Bulgarian rose and the lemon hints of rose centifolia TOBACCO ROSE uses a hay accord to provide tobacco accents blended with patchouli, galbanum, beeswax and oakmoss, with animalic hints of ambergris and sweet sinuous musks."

Papillon Perfumery Angélique, Anubis and Tobacco Rose are available at Les Senteurs in London, £94 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum, or at Indigo Perfumery in the US, $160 each.

Oh I’m delighted to know these are at Indigo! The Candy Perfume Boy and Alyssa Harad gave these wonderful reviews, but I couldn’t figure out how to get samples in the U.S. They are going to the top of my try list!

I had actually considered trying to reach Liz Moores through her personal Facebook page to ask where I could get samples. Glad I don’t have to be super creepy now.

I’m curious about Angélique (did someone say Iris pallida?), but I’ve heard fantastic things about Tobacco Rose as well.
