Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Scent of Hope ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 10 July 2014 18 Comments

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Scent of Hope

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has launched Scent of Hope, a new iris soliflore fragrance inspired by the fabled Jacques Fath Iris Gris.

What started out as a bespoke reproduction of the much beloved, almost impossible to get, Iris Gris de Fath, has become our new release, the Scent of Hope.

An overdosing of peach gives the impression of incredible softness and approachability at first sniff that gives way to a glorious, true orris heart. Orris can be rather cold, aloof, and quite melancholy. But Scent of Hope is not melancholy or aloof. It is elegant, to be sure, and so, so beautiful but not in a way that you must admire her from an ivory tower. She comes down to be with you, and hold you close; lovingly. A rich yet delicate, woody to animalic drydown is revealed as Scent of Hope completes. It will leave you swooning…it is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Scent of Hope is available in Extrait, in 5 ($88) or 15 ($227) ml. 30% of sales will be donated to Sense of Security, an organization dedicated to helping those coping with breast cancer afford their treatment and living expenses.

Ditto. Never smelled Iris Gris and sort of never wanted to, but this does sound lovely.

Tritto. I’m intrigued; I hope they get samples at STC.

I just ordered mine from Dawn’s website! She does have free sample shipping in the US (can’t remember if you’re stateside, Ann).

ha, did the same, & also ordered a vial of Want that I’d meant to try months ago.

I was lucky enough to win a teensy smidge of a sample of Iris Gris once. It was absolutely sublime. Stop-in-your-tracks beautiful if you like Iris at all and seamlessly blended. If DSH has come anywhere near the original, my checkbook is out! Can’t wait to check it out.

I’ve always heard it was gorgeous! Part of why I didn’t want to try it.

I think my next vacation will be to Boulder. There are so many DSH fragrances I want to sniff, and this sounds amazing. I can sniff all morning, and then go to the Dushanbe tea house for lunch…. so nice!

Now that is a great idea! The Boulder museum that she’s done the special perfumes for would be worth a visit, too.

Good idea! I am sure there are a million more things to do. After the sniffing! I do love that Cardamom & Kyphi.

And if there are still tours at the Celestial Seasonings factory, it’s worth a trip just to sniff the mint room. 🙂

A mint room – that must be amazing!

I used to live in Boulder… it’s a great place with lots to do. After you sniff perfume and drink tea, it’s not far to Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and the Overlook hotel (where they filmed The Shining).

I have a small amount of Iris Gris and also had the opportunity to sniff Iris Gris from the Osmotheque on a scent strip. LT commented that if you wanted to smell poetry in scent, that was it. I also have the Legendary Fragrances version, which is not as subtle, but I enjoy it.
I’m a fan of other DSH fragrances, and this is for a great cause, so I leapt on the pre-order option when I first heard about it. Can’t wait!

I have heard so many positive things about the DSH line, I think its time for me to possibly check it out. Also, I love when a perfumer gives some of the proceeds to help a great cause. Helping people and smelling great! What a winning combination! 🙂
