What fragrance are you wearing today?
I'm wearing John Varvatos Artisan. I hadn't worn it in eons, and remembered I liked it but had forgotten how much. If you love orange blossom and you haven't tried Artisan, you really should give it a try.

I’m wearing DSH Perfumes Alba — the weather is so intense I just wanted to see how something dramatically ill-suited to it would perform. I am happy about it so far! Maybe because it’s impossible to be comfortable outside anyway, and the air conditioning in my building makes it pretty much winter anyway.
Glad it’s working! And hope this heat / humidity will break. We got rain last night but it didn’t help much.
They keep saying the holiday will be beautiful — here’s hoping!

Pre-shower: YSL Yvresse, post-Champagne but pre-reformulation, back when it still came in the champagne-cork bottle and had a hefty dose of oakmoss in it. Fantastic stuff, like a less scary, ultra-modern Mitsouko.
Post-shower: Demeter Blue Hawaiian, now apparently discontinued, a big brief wham of orange pineapple, so much fun and so excellent for a hot humid day.
Yvresse is what I wanted Mitsouko to be.
Sounds lovely, though I am a fan of Mitsouko.

Sampling Bond No. 9 Hamptons this morning. Watery citrus, soap, and white musk on me. I don’t remember the Hamptons smelling like this!
I don’t have many USA scents for tomorrow’s challenge, so Bond it has to be. I’ll be checking my samples, but Hamptons doesn’t sound that thrilling, I’ll probably stick to Chinatown, unless someone comes up with a better option.
I am considering Broadway Nite, since it’s bright like firecrackers.

I was wearing (I can no longer smell it!) Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino.
Lasting power is not good, but it is lovely while it does last. Simple, and a bit soapy, but nice. Apparently there’s many in this category at much better prices.
Love that one. I guess I have a heavy hand when it comes to that scent. I make sure I can smell it throughout the day. Lol!

But it’s such a great scent, who says you have to? But I’m obviously partial to iris notes, and I’m wearing Hermes Hiris today.
Thanks for the encouragement! I have this instinct that I should hoard my favorites and save them for special occasions, but it’s a good reminder to enjoy what I have at every opportunity.

I was feeling a bit fragile this morning after my debacle with Vanilla Insensee (insane, indeed!) yesterday, so today I ran for the comfort of a Caron. Montaigne, in this instance. I feel as comforted as though I were wrapped up in cashmere. 🙂
Iris Nobile because it is so pretty, and I’m in sweats and an ugly t-shirt and may have to hand-cuff myself to my desk to get some much past deadline work done.
Iris Nobile is so beautiful! I was just noticing the other day when I finally got around to testing the new Cartier La Panthere, that I think once it gets past the opening, it smells like the far drydown of Iris Nobile. I always feel so elegant when I wear IN.
I bought a full bottle of Epice Marine and loving it. Having a hectic morning and the more I hustle the better it smells. I pricy luxury but compared to the other fragrances I was looking at, a comparative steal. Lord help us when $240 is a steal, am I right?
I have a travel size of that one. I find it fascinating but a bit challenging for my nose to come to grips with the combination of marine and savory spice notes. So far, I’m in more of a contemplation mode with it than a wearing out and about mode. I believe I only have travel sizes of the Hermessences, but I agree the value to price ratio is better than most. Iris Ukiyoe is my favorite.
I love Iris Ukiyoe as well! I almost went for a travel set with it, Epice Marine, Paprika Brasil, and Vanille Galante, but I think Epice Marine could be my top favorite. My other full bottle is Brin de Reglisse and I maybe have 20ml. Of course, I bought it maybe 6 months after release….
I don’t find the spicy notes as difficult as others report, but I am fascinated. Maybe 2 hours later it takes on a powdery aspect. Delicious!
I need to try Paprika Basil, too. How do you like Narcisse Bleu?
Paprika Brasil didn’t wow the bloggers, but I love its realistic hot red pepper accord that fades into an almost-coppery iris.
I enjoy Narcisse Bleu a lot and thought about getting some. I see Hermes does a similar travel set with its colognes…. However, I find the powdery accents in Epice Marine negate my need for a large quantity of Narcisse Bleu, though I am excited to try their Le Bain “functional” line.
In Vetiver Pour Elle today. Will see whether today ends up as hot as yesterday.

My SOTD is Orange Sanguine by Atelier. One of my new favorites and new summer fragrance. Its a beautiful scent.
Today is Lacoste Inspiration. What I’d call a harmless scent. Have discovered all the spray samples I’ve been hoarding are evaporating! Trying to use them before they’re all gone.
Ooooo I like Inspiration. It is totally harmless. I wore it to bed the other night and could see myself getting a bottle from eBay at some point.
I have to put on sunscreen and go outdoors, so no perfume this morning. This evening I’m looking forward to continuing my exploration of some samples of the Amouage attars. These were never widely available, and production may even have ceased entirely, according to posts on the Kafkaesque perfume blog.
I tried one of the ouds last night and thought it was exceptional, not that I can claim any expertise at all in the fraught field of ouds. I would only wear it very occasionally when I could give it my full attention, so, fortunately, a sample is all I need. Especially since I did jump on a small bottle of Homage Attar before that fell into the abyss of lost perfumes.
DSH Pamplemousse today. Years ago I went through a Pamplemousse phase and this one prob my favorite of the bunch. Opening is bitter sweet like peeling back the rind on a grapefruit. Next is a slightly sweet and tart citrusy phase and then a soft not too sweet dry down. So much like the real fruit with no sour parts. Perfect on a hot day!
I wore Mandarine-Basilisc? Today on the same theory. It was good, but I think Pamplemousse would have been better. Thanks for the thought, may wear that tomorrow! (It’s American!)
SOTD = DSH Oeillet Rouge
Continuing on my U.S.-based brand / American perfumer themed week, I chose this because I am on a carnation kick and this seemed like a good choice and it is! I keep thinking that it couldn’t stand up to the heat/humidity/air-conditioning but so far so good (although SSS Yin & Ylang did better). My only complaint is that the atomizer is wonky. I will request a replacement atomizer or some kind of credit even though I can quite easily transfer the contents to my own atomizer.
Might be time for me to get some DSH and SSS samples. I’ve been hearing about them for so long. Got any favorites?

I have not yet explored DHL other than the Oeillet Rouge. I used the EDP version today and can’t wait to try the parfum extrait.
As for SSS, for spring / summer, Yin & Ylang and for fall/ winter, Forest Walk, To Dream, Winter Woods and Tabac Aurea. Hopefully, someone who likes florals will chime in!
Interesting that you like Forest Walk for fall/winter. It’s one of my favorite summer scents- cuts right through the heat and humidity here in the south and transports me to the banks of a cool stream deep in the woods. It’s a wonderful reminder of my summer hikes in the mountains of western NC. Even if I am not wearing it, when I am hot and frazzled I often just stop for a few minutes to huff the cap and get “centered.” It will be my US made SOTD for tomorrow 🙂
My fav SSS are Tabac Aurea and Champagne de Bois, then the Rose Musc. I’ve only smelled a few of the DSH line, but I really like the Giardini Segreti (aka Italian Journey No 3) which I’d actually decided to wear for my friday USA fragrance tomorrow. It is a delightful white florals tuberose jasmine fragrance that really is light and dancing. I also really like her Cardamom & Khyphi which is on my current lemming list.
For SSS, all of the above and I’ll add Jour Ensoleille.
DSH Le Smoking is da bomb! Also love Mata Hari and Cimabue.
I really need to try these- I have never sampled from this line before but am always hearing wonderful things about it. Do they offer smaller bottles? I really wish all fragrances were available in a 10 or 15 ml option…

Mono Di Orio’s Vetyver, from my coffret tiny bottle.
I am desperately trying to convince myself that I don’t need to buy a pricey full bottle of this, and some other vetyver will do. So far I keep failing.
Today I think maybe it’s the ginger that’s irresistible.
Maybe there’s another ginger out there which will satisfy me. Any suggestions?
No help from me as this is my favorite vetiver by far. It’s one of the first notes I explored and the nice folks at Twisted Lily suggested I sample this one as well. So glad I did!
Vetiver Tonka is probably in the #2 spot for me.
Have heard good things about Yosh Ginger Ciao. Also, my mum used to like R&G Eau de Gingimbre

It’s such a great fragrance. It took me while to like it, but am now really glad I got a bottle.
Yesterday at Marshall’s I got a good deal on a bottle of Ck One, which is fitting for the hot weather and the upcoming twentieth anniversary. I really like the how I can use the scent liberally without offending everyone in my path. I’ll probably use the whole 3 ounces!

SOTD is EL Sensuous Noir. I decided to go American today too. Not sure what I’m doing for tomorrow yet.
SOTD is tauer parfums rose chypre. Today felt so much like autumn! Had to wear a jacket and everything. I added a spray of paestum rose in the afternoon. I’m really getting into these dark roses 🙂
Me too! The spicier, smokier and leathery, the better.
I thought I hated rose in any form until I tried Tauers! They are all wonderful, but my fave is Un Rose de Kandahar- oh so lovely!
Luckyscent samples just arrived–am wearing Rozy edp. Not sure it’s me, but it’s really, really pretty. Excited to try the April Aromatics samps too (ordered 3 small vials–not the deluxe set).
SOTD is Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. I cannot think of a better scent for this muggy day. So lovely.
SotD is Guerlain Vetiver eau Glacee which I unearthed while tidying my fragrance wardrobe. Very nice and with a splash of menthol to give a cooling effect. I think there was a Mugler Cologne Summer edition that did the same thing.
That’s interesting – I’ve never tried that version. Love the main Vetiver.
Not as quite good as the original, but very nice and it used to be cheap cheap cheap.
i’m wearing what’s left of several spritzes of YSL Paris from a bottle of undetermined age. It’s such a pretty rose, but the heat and humidity of the Northeast USA did it in.

I’m wearing orange blossom today as well – Fleur d’Oranger, dabbed from a sample vial. I like it quite a lot, but think I should sample from a spray bottle before putting this on a FBW list. I don’t usually have a problem with cumin, so should be okay, but better safe than sorry.
I have the newer post-reform version and wondered where the cumin so often mentioned was. Apparently the new version (with the stylized SL label rather than the arches and ‘Paris’) doesn’t have the dreaded cumin thing going on. Which is a pity as I wanted to try the cumin thing.
SOTD is Omnia Coral (the only flanker I enjoy). On me, it has a very, softy powdery halo surrounding the tart, punchy pomegranate note making the scent at once ladylike and fun. Plus the fact that the color ‘coral’ is one of my summer favorites may have predisposed me to enjoying it! Today I’m wearing corally red-white-and-blue in anticipation of our community’s fireworks this evening.
I own and love the original Omnia, one of my favorite fall scents (especially in November, when my thoughts begin to turn to ‘spice’). Next time I go rummaging through my stash I’ll have to try it in summer; I was intrigued by earlier comments about how well it works in the heat.
SOTD is Moroccan Oil Body Souffle. One of my cats passed away yesterday and it was his favorite. He always licked my arms when I wore it. We got to say goodbye to him one last time this afternoon and then had him cremated. It was only appropriate to wear something he loved.
So sorry to hear about your cat! I know how hard it is to lose one of your fur babies. My thoughts are with you.

Oh, so sorry, that’s hard.
Thank you all so much for your condolences. Layla had heart problems but he was doing well. (A long story…two male cats with girls’ names.) We thought there eventually would be a time he got sick and we would have to euthanize him, but instead he had a sudden full collapse (looks similar to a seizure) and was gone in less than a minute. We were prepared and shocked at the same time. He was very attached to my husband but as soon as I became pregnant he started following me around and sleeping next to my tummy. We became quite close over the last eight months, especially since I have been too sick to work and was home with him the whole time. I feel like he loved this baby and wanted him to hang around long enough to meet him or her, but he went about a month too soon. I am so thankful for the time I had with him and the relationship we had. But I’m terribly heartbroken and miss him so much already. I appreciate your thoughts.
Sounds like he was glad to help you during this tough time. I’m so glad you had each other! Maybe he knew he’d gotten you over the hump on this pregnancy.

SOTD is Lancome O, sprayed at the perfume counter this afternoon. It’s bonus time, and I’m considering a bottle of this. Don’t really need it, but like it surprisingly well.
This morning I wore Cartier So Pretty, and then Chanel No 18 on my one wrist to test it, again. I needed some roses that could stand up to the heat and humidity.
SOTD is Amouage Fate Woman. I have tried several from this line and they left me cold. I got a sample of this beauty and it was instant, head over heels love! I would like to try some of their attars but sounds like they are no longer available? Was reading comments above and that was the impression I got …:(

Wore Helmut Lang Men today! Forgot how entrancing this scent is. Musky and Powdery and Clean and Soapy… Nothing really quite like it!
Wore Cuir de Lancome today–only for the second time, still testing out a small sample. Unfortunately, it goes through an ivory soap phase on my skin, so I don’t think it’s going to be a large decant/full bottle kind of thing.
Sotd was Shanghai Lily. Just bought a bottle for 25% off so felt I could use the rest of my sample spray.
Evening was L’ambre des Merveilles.
