What's your fragrance today?
I'm wearing Marc Jacobs Daisy, from a very old sample. So far, none of the Daisy flankers have bested it, but I haven't yet smelled Daisy Dream.
Reminder: on Friday, July 4th, wear something by a US-based brand. The following Friday, July 11, will be Flanker Friday: wear a flanker fragrance, and extra bonus points for wearing a flanker of a flanker!

No SOTD yet. Debating a trial of Kai vs Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia versus a trial of Tendre Madeleine vs Agonist Isis. Also, any advice on shipping decants from the US to Canada so as not to have issues with customs?

I always think Tendre Madeleine smells like a dupe of L by Lolita Lempicka.
They are very similar, though I prefer Tendre Madeleine by a good bit. What is the name of your blog?

I’ve gotten that on packages sent from other countries to me in the US, but I’m not sure that flies anymore if you’re sending from the US. I know the signs in the post office say that it’s not an acceptable description since that can encompass perfume. Has anyone else gotten away with using “cosmetics” in the US? I usually lie and say it’s something completely unrelated, like jewelry (if I’m sending a small package).
It depends on how vigilant the postal worker is. I used to put cosmetics, but then I was told that wasn’t specific enough because it could mean perfume, which is a no-no. So be prepared!
RE shipping: white lie is the best.
I wear both and I love both. Today I am wearing Kai. I think it’s more casual than PCTG. Both smell great and are the perfect gardénias for me. The Lauder one seems richer with beautiful neroli oil. Kai is a bit more simple, greener. I especially love Kai for its body and hair line.
I decided to compare Kai and PCTG today. I agree about the difference. They are both great in their own ways. I did make the mistake of also dabbing on some Fracas for comparison, but it was overwhelming the other two, so washed it off (note to self, Palmolive dish soap works great for this). Fracas is just in a class by itself since it has a spicy facet to it.
Oh my! Fracas is a killer compared to these 2 lovely gardénias. I used to wear it in the winter years ago. Something has changed in the formula or is it only me but now I can’t and I only use Carnal Flower or Beyond Love when I need my shot of tuberose!
Whenever I’ve sent perfume samples over the border, I’ve always just packed it really well and I write “used personal cosmetic samples” where the form asks for a description of contents and there’s never been an issue.
Shame none of the Daisy perfumes were half as inventive as the Daisy stuff.
The stuff?
The adorable material aspect of the line, beginning with the original bottle, all the flanker and LE bottles, the cute accessories, etc. I was once seized with the idea of acquiring an inexpensive empty bottle and spent hours on ebay searching through all the Daisy stuff. Did not end up buying anything partly because I could not decide what was cutest.
I’m not sure any actual perfume is that cute and stylish, though, to be fair. How could it be?

Thinking about this and almost feeling sorry for Marc Jacobs. He hit the ball out of the park with Daisy – how can he ever beat the original Daisy bottle, (which was actually designed by Takashi Murakami). Perhaps all his subsequent absurdity with the nude Bang ads and the dresses is an attempt to dissociate himself from Daisy and a plea: “look at ME!”
The new Daisy bottle looks nice – almost the size and shape of a bee bottle that merged with J’Adore and with white flowers with gold centers appliqued on the top half.

SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Yin & Ylang
I am continuing my personal fragrance theme week of only wearing perfumes from a U. S.-based brand or American perfumer. SSS Yin & Ylang is a pretty floral and just hits the right spot for this humid New York City day and the airconditioning in the office!
And my favorite fragrance name of recent memory…

Finding summer perfumes that stand up to both outdoor heat and humidity and indoor Arctic AC is a Level 5 perfumista challenge.

I’m stealing your US week idea. Monday I may have been wearing something French (I can’t remember, but I think I wore the same thing last weekend) but I’ll just go through next Monday to make up for it.
SOTD is Tokyomilk La Vie La Mort. I’m trying to acclimate myself more to Tuberose because for some reason, the note gives me the worst headache. I’m really starting to love this scent though. I’ve been smelling my wrist all morning with no migraine yet!

It is like hot mountain soup up here today, so I finally turn to my old fav summer frag: Cristalle edp. Ah—so fresh and natural and will stick with me for many hours.

God, that is the only good thing about being up on the mountain – it does cool off over night. The humidity is the problem. Its only 84 degrees here now, and thank god the clouds have just rolled in.
I just put on Lys Mediterranee. My sample has been languishing at the bottom of the pile for too long. Really really pretty.

LM is a really great, realistic lily but my all-time favorite is Donna Karan Gold.
Nothing too exciting for me today, just Crabtree & Evelyn’s Wisteria – my go-to “clean” professional scent.
I’m a near twin! Wearing C & E’s Lavender lotion and lavender EDT with an added spritz of Caron pour un Homme. C & E’s lavender has most of its actual lavender at the beginning and then becomes a skin scent of tonka bean, powder and white musk with an aromatic tinge. It is less bright and also less sweet than the Caron and also a little more laid back. I don’t think I have tried the Wisteria…

My SOTD is A Shot of Fresh Sweet Peas from the Jo Loves line. The first time I tried it, I didn’t really like it. I decided to give it a second try and I really like it. Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone.
I like Swatch watches. I recently bought a “dressier” one with a silver, gold and rose gold watchband.
That’s what I’m looking for, a dressy -type watch. I want a Rolex but I can’t afford it right now. So, I want one that resembles it as much as possible. I found a few of MK that resembles a Rolex! 🙂

I have a Swatch Watch that I have had for years and absolutely love. It’s so unique and I always get comments and compliments when I wear it!
SOTD is Chanel No. 5 EDP. I was at Ulta yesterday and wanted to buy a bottle but instead (sneakily) decanted a sample for myself. I just couldn’t say yes to that price tag, but I don’t know if I should feel guilty or not for helping myself.

Not at all! It’s a tester. Just think how many unappreciative people spray it and screw their nose up and throw the scent strip away. You’re giving it a good home
I bring my own vials to places that either don’t have them or perpetually claims to have run out (they’re lying) and I would always ask. My guilt instance was picking up a train ticket from the ticket machine that someone forgot to pick up. It is of no use to me since my ticket is monthly but if it’s left there, someone else will take it. There is no refund option for the ticket so my plan is to be a good samaritan the next time I witness someone forgetting a ticket and having to pay for a ticket plus a penalty for buying on board the train.
Gris Clair. Seeing how it does in the heat. Indoors, it seems like a good office scent. I feel very no-nonsense in this – take my lavender seriously.
So it’s not a good scent for a comic? 😉

Today’s foray into the untried sample box brought forth Atelier’s Vanille Insensee, and boy do I wish it hadn’t. On my skin this smells like strong paint thinner with a wimpy undertone of vanilla. I’ve got the last little bit of a purse size Donna Karan Gold and I’m going to scrub off the paint thinner and put on the DK Gold forthwith.

I thought I was the only one who absolutely despised Vanille Insensee! I got a huge blast of alcohol, followed by paint thinner, and no vanilla at all. I could not get rid of the teeny bottle fast enough (which I bought on ebay after all the great recommendations). I think I swapped it here.
Oh I like it, it’s just a light smoky vanilla to me. And tbh everything is nice compared to Ladykiller Million :-/
I didn’t like it either — it’s got a really strong musk that didn’t agree with me at all. People who love it must not smell the musk, because it did smell nice for the first few seconds.
This is a worry for me…I’ve gone around in this (and other) samples, wondering how it smelled to others, as I am missing the musk, for sure…
It seems pleasant enough to me and I also don’t get musk. Its probably that some of us are anosmic to the musk in it and that there may be some who are actually more sensitive than most to the very same musk.
And then there are the others who are getting paint thinner, rather than a vile musk!
Very interesting! This is one of my most disastrous samples ever…to me it smelled like synthetic vanilla mixed with bleach. Not only a scrubber but it bothered me so much I had to mail it away ASAP. I’m glad to know it wasn’t just my nose…
Poor things! On me it just smelled like slightly sweet cardboard–not unpleasant at all, but I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. I was about to say, at least it disappears in a hurry, but I’m pretty sure I’m anosmic to the musk.
Pre-shower was L’eau du Navigateur (l’artisan), then Bvlgari Jasmin Noir, with body products. It’s one of those ones that smell awful on paper, but on skin (and ignoring the jasmine and the noir fibs) it’s a beautiful woodsy skin scent.
Oh dear. Tonight I bought a box of perfumes from an online seller for $100. Quite a few nice ones, but I am trying out 3 I don’t know- Love, Chloe Intense (quite nice really. sweet), NR Essence Intense (not love but not bad), and curiosity made me try Lady Million. I’m dying here! It’s ravaged the other two and is trying to smother me to death. I don’t think I’ve tried anything this bad in a long time 🙁
I’m wearing Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli, and thinking about something more dramatic for tomorrow. A bunch of people on Twitter are talking about testing heavier orientals and such in the heat, and since it’s supposed to be in the 90s and thunderstorming here and I’ll be alone in the office, I think that might be the day for a trial run.

Heavier than summer-weight citruses, I suppose is what I mean… I’m not brave enough to go objectively weighty. Darker, is maybe the word I want?
SOTD is Brosseau’s Ombre Bleue, which I dug out of the back cabinet after someone praised it recently. It’s still got a weird cough syrup note for me at the start, but the drydown is lovely.
That would be me who wore it last week and sang its praises. Interesting about that cough syrup note, I’ll have to see if I get a whiff of that, too, never noticed anything like that before. Yes, the drydown is hauntingly lovely, isn’t it? And, on me at least, lasts a long time.
I am still smelling last night’s vintage Bal extract form and after my shower, I might bust out some Diorissimo EDP or maybe L’Heure Bleue. I haven’t decided yet.
Wearing Omnia again today. I pulled it out last Friday (lost loves) and have worn it a few times since. It’s nice that it’s getting some wear. Layered it today with a spritz of Muguet. Lovely, but I fear the silage today might be overwhelming in the office. Oh well ….
SOTD: Ungaro pour L’Homme III Emanuel Ungaro for men
Today I’m wearing Prada’s L`Eau Ambree and I find it just lovely in the summer swelter. Must be the L`Eau part of the scent 😉
I wish I liked the Daisy scents by Marc Jacobs but I never have. They are adorable to look at and obviously have many fans.
Anyone check out his new makeup line? The packaging threw me. Not what I expected from him..
I love L’eau Ambree but haven’t tried it in the heat. To me it felt quite wintery and warm. I’ll have to give it a go now that summer’s here and see what it does.

Today was a quick choice – Chloe L’eau de Chloe. It’s a sample I’ve had for ages, and only dug back out again recently. It feels very cool, like carrying a bit of spring into summer to protect against the heat.

My SOTD is Kai. I am quite new to this perfume actually. I discovered Kai less than a year ago. I adore gardenias and this is the only one along with the Lauder one I find accurate.
Kai is great, especially in the summer.
I wouldn’t wear it in the winter for sure. Yesterday, after a swim in the Channel, I used Kai body scrub for the first time and liked it very much. The scrub turns into some kind of milky lotion when you rinse it off. It is not too scented which means you can probably use it with other white flowers fragrances.
Love Kai – time to get it out!

My SOTD is Brun Sicilien by Scent on Canvas.It’s leather, but quite fresh as it has white flowers too. I enjoy it but wish it had more projection.
SOTD is Byredo 1996! I’m getting sick of the cold breezy sunny days we have here and I’m feeling kinda meh. 1996 is a good comfort scent.
I got a sample of that one and fell in love! It’s decant worthy for sure. Not sure anything is FBW these days as my perfume supply will currently last me the rest of my life…
Today it is about nine hundred thousand degrees here in Florida. (I love me some hyperbole!) and I am wearing (sniffing and swooning, sniffing and swooning) Tauer’s Un Rose de Kandahar. So good! If I was flexible enough, I would bury my own nose in my cleavage! I smell SO delicious 🙂

Someone pointed out on a DC weather blog this morning that the heat index is higher here now than in Death Valley, and that would be even more true where you are (although DC is often hotter than coastal Florida).
Ha, I am in DC as well and when I went for a short walk outside earlier today, it did feel really oppressing, but let’s remember where we are – in a swamp land nobody wanted and which was chosen for the capital for that reason…
I usually do a 2 mile walk with my dog in the evenings if it’s not raining. The past two evenings, I got out the leash and the dog responded by rolling over, belly up, sprawled on the bed under the ceiling fan! When the dog doesn’t want to go for a walk, you know it’s HOT!
Nozknoz, very true! It’s the humidity that just zaps the life out of you. I am lucky in that I don’t live inland- rather, on a peninsula of a peninsula! Surrounded by water on 3 sides helps- except in a hurricane situation! DC can be a killer in summer for sure- thank the stars above for A/C, iced tea, and the cooling spritz of one’s favorite fume 🙂
Deva, just love Tauer’s Un Rose de Kandahar but frankly have tucked it away until late fall, early winter.

Floralgal, I love it any time of year. I love orientals/ambers/incense/woods- all the “heavier” fumes one would usually be compelled to wear in cooler weather. Since I live in Satan’s Armpit, I have had to adjust.
One of my “work around” tricks for hot weather wear
of “fall/winter” perfumes is a very light trigger finger and I usually spray lower down, say around my belly rather than chest/neck area. I can pull off some heavy hitters doing this- Musc Ravageur, Anne Pliska, Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant…there’s no stopping me!
However, my one caveat is that I work from home and don’t have to worry about the opinions or feelings of others.
That’s a pretty big caveat 😉

SOTD is Bois 1920 Classic. It’s nice and refreshing for the sunny day we’re having where I live.
It is steaming hot outside so I broke out my bottle of vintage Eau d’Hadrien. Fleeting but perfect scent. I will probably switch to SIP Fair Verona in the evening.
My SOTD is Jardin D’ecrivains Wilde which is the perfect “bare skin” fragrance – it melts into mine!
It smells like what we’d hope the CLEAN line and LaP’s Skin on Skin would smell like.
I’m wearing Cuir de Lancome today. The bottle that I won on EBay arrived yesterday, so of course I was excited to wear it.

I started this morning in Tubéreuse Criminelle which somehow didn’t last very long and I sprayed with abandon. After an early bath I changed to Un Zest de Rose, which at the moment I cannot smell either, I hate my allergies!
SOTD for me is from a sample of Terracotta Le Parfum. It is sweet and so lovely on a warm day. I am glad it is sold out so I’m saved from buying a full bottle. Maybe someday something even nicer will come along . . .
SOTD: Vol de Nuit, which is probably the closest I come to an HG scent, and I’ve found that it blooms beautifully in the heat.
Perry Ellis 360 Black, probably the only one of the many 360 flankers worth a damn, and even then it’s kind of a copy of a bunch of other things. But I still like it!
Theo Fennell Scent. Had a little sample from my recent-ish swap haul and fell in instant…something with it. It is the second sample from that bag that I feel compelled/compulsed to purchase before the remaining discontinued bottles disappear. (The first was Belle en Rykiel). Went back to put a little more on from the dabber, and then spilled it.
SOTD Coeur de Vetiver Sacre – I love it more every time I wear it.
Those Daisy things sure are cute / I like the Dot stuff, too, but I will hold on to my money.,,. Though I was considering buying one of those Armani Onda (?) scents because I like the bottle so much…
I hadn’t seen the Armani Onda scents around for a long time and then recently came upon them. I remember liking Mystere and Extase but it was quite some time ago. The bottles are beautiful…
Normally I put on perfume before the SOTD poll is out … But today I on vacation on the west coast and had the luxery of reading what everyone else is wearing before I choose 🙂
Inspired by all the gardenia talk, I’ll put on some Tom Ford Velvet Gardenia.
It’s downright chilly where I’m at, too, today, so I felt the need for some stronger stuff as my SOTD: EL’s Private Collection Jasmine White Moss (edp). I love greens and chypres, not so much white florals (to wear, love to smell the ‘real’ thing, however). The galbanum and “white moss mist absolute” aka faux-oakmoss make a strong showing right from the beginning, and only when they soften after awhile do I get (very gentle) hints of the lovely jasmine plant that blooms every summer on the deck outside my bedroom window. It was a good choice for today, I wasn’t disappointed.
Wearing Joya Âmes Soeurs (or Scent of Soulmates) for the last two days, and stealing Hajusuuri’s idea of a US perfume week. Âmes Soeurs is what I thought Seville a L’Aube would smell like–sweet orange blossom turning smoky, with fair-to-average longevity. Seville a l’Aube lasted longer, but on me was very sweet beeswax and orange blossom (with hints of lavender, etc.) the entire time.
Tomorrow, either this again or Melissa Flagg Clementine. I may have to try a spritz of Clementine tonight to see which perfume would best suit a trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Tonka by Reminiscence. I wanted to give it another try as I’m thinking of selling it as I only want to keep loves not likes. It’s actually really nice but I’ve got Chergui which it reminds me of and also I’ve got lots of spray samples of Back to Black as well and it’s in a similar zone. Saying all of that, I’m not totally convinced that I will sell it!
