What's your fragrance at the moment? Do you usually stick with one fragrance for the whole day, or do you switch or layer as the day goes on?
I am wearing Parfums de Nicolaï Musc Monoï (review coming up later today).

Good Morning NST Family. My SOTD is Deliria by L’Artisan. Its a really nice fragrance, but I don’t like it as much as I like their Amour Nocturne. Hopefully one day I can save up my pennies to purchase a FB of Amour Nocturne. I wouldn’t purchase a FB of Deliria, but it is a nice fragrance, nevertheless. Hope everyone has a “Terrific Tuesday”.
I usually stick to one fragrance all day. I am heavy-handed when it comes to fragrance, so I put on enough to last the whole day. 🙂

SOTD is L’Artisan Mure et Musc EDT. I shower after work/exercise and usually have a different scent, often a body product or maybe some samples, for the evening and bed. Last night’s was Annick Goutal Rose Absolue on one arm and Phaedon Tabac Rouge on the other.
A niche classic 🙂
SOTD is Aubusson Homme. I rarely layer fragrances, although last week I think I had 4 different things on during the course of one day…

Guerlain Terracotta summer fragrance.
It’s a cold summer in Prague but still I’m in the mood for light fragrances with medium sillage but great tenacity 🙂
Which is not easy to find as eau de colognes are too fleeting and the others too loud.
If I remember and have anything handy, I may apply something at the end of the day, but not now as lindens are in blossom and I looove their fragrance. There is no human-made fragrance quite like it. Or is there – any suggestions? Except for the – sadly – discontinued Naked Honey.
I find Pretty Machine by Kerosene pretty much like linden, but it’s also pretty strong for summer.

I just went on holiday to Berlin and visited ‘Frau Toni’, only available there I believe. Bought a small bottle of their ‘Berlin linden’ and love it! I’m not sure of what real linden smells like but it does have a very natural summer like scent. Linear but lasts surprisingly long on skin.
Ma Plus Belle Histoire d’Amour from the DSH YSL collection is a nice linden perfume, though nothing really smells quite like the trees.
I really like Tauer’s Zeta for linden too, also Aftelier Honey Blossom. I don’t think linden grows in my neck of the woods, so I’ve never smelled the real deal to have a frame of reference.
I’m wearing a sample of Amouage Journey Woman. I like it so far—for a while at the beginning it smells almost like apricot jam, and it seems more complex than some other osmanthus scents like Osmanthus Interdite (which I like a lot) or Ormand Jayne Osmanthus. I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s tried this.
I usually stick with one fragrance unless it disappears quickly, or unless I have several samples I’m impatient to try.
And I’ve been curious about Musc Monoï, so looking forward to the review!

Oooh – I think I someone gave me a sample of this, but I haven’t tried it yet – now it’s moving closer to the top of the priority list. Loving osmanthus lately.

SOTD: Field Notes from Paris
I’m kind of heavy handed, or I should say heavy fingered, when it comes to spraying on scents in the morning. I want to smell it as long as possible and some scents, like Field Notes, make it easier than others.

I’m wearing Spiritueuse Double Vanille. It’s looking like I’ll probably be moving in the next couple of months, so I’m trying to finish off my near-empty decants and this is one of them.
I usually wear at least two fragrances per day.

No way! I mean, if we find a nice place I’ll look forward to being there and settled, but I dread dread dread the logistics of the move itself. (Moving in town can’t be as horrible as moving across the country though… our last move was 2000 miles.)

After yesterday’s slight disappointment with L’eau de magnolia I checked out my bottles for other near-cologne scents and fished out Escale à Pondichéry, I prefer this one actually, it is spicier and has a good staying power. Colognes and near-colognes are still no favourites of mine, in summer I prefer vetivers as the “cool” alternative.
I adore vetiver in summer 🙂
SOTD is Lolita Lempicka au Masculin. Normally one, sometimes something else at nighttime
SOTD is Dzing. I had a morning meeting and wanted something subtle, but decidedly unfeminine.
I have scent eating skin, so I get to do a SOTM and after work I can reapply or pick a whole new SOTE, which can be a nice way to separate work & play. I’m excited because my husband returned from the UK last night and brought me tons of goodies, including an atomizer from Penhaligon’s with Peoneve in it, which I can’t wait to try! (couldn’t spray it on last night, because I was already wearing something overwhelming).
One scent per day unless I’m out sampling. Today is Frejya from Wild Veil. I like Habit better but I think I’ll get a few other solids from them so that I’ll have a whole wardrobe of quickly disappearing scents for school clinic
Have you ever tried Pacifica’s solids? I’d think they’d be perfect for subtle days at work, and they cost something like $9 so you could really flesh out that wardrobe. I have the solid of Nerola Orange Blossom and quite like it as a little pick-me-up.
SOTD – Bronze Goddess and Bronze Goddess Whipped Body Cream. I smell like a tropical paradise! Wish I was there instead of sitting at this desk.
I once was fortunate to spend several days in Nice. My favorite memory is my first glimpse of the Mediterranean from my hotel room balcony: For a full 5 minutes, I was totally mesmerized by the colors glinting in the sun, so many shades of green and blue I’d never experienced before and couldn’t even begin to count! Then quickly, the sun faded, clouds appeared, and that lovely sea turned slate gray and stayed that way the entire length of my visit.
Even though I didn’t purchase this scent until long after my visit, my SOTD, Jean Charles Brousseau’s Ombre Bleue, brings back memories of that lovely visit and the duality of the sea; its ability to sparkle one minute and then become melancholy the next. I’m wearing the current edt, notes are supposed to be some combination of rose, jasmine, vanilla, plum, orange tree, LOTV, mimosa, tiare flowers and beeswax. The Art Deco bottle is gorgeous as is the blue lagoon-like juice it holds. This supposedly is a 2005 re-issue of the original scent from 1987, which was available in perfume and edp, a richer combination with enhanced amber, vanilla and sandalwood notes. I’m lucky to have a small bottle of the original perfume, which I wear only for those special moments. I’ve read that Ombre Bleue was designed to recall the scent of the early French sun-tanning oils, so it was really neat to see the ‘Ambre Solaire’ poster at the top (I had already chosen my scent when I saw this)!

What a lovely description of Ombre Bleue, and you’ve made me want to try it! I’m only familiar with Ombre Rose.
Agree with how sparkly the Mediterranean is from the Nice vantage point! The only meh part is that the beach has large rocks instead of sand, at least in the section I walked on!
Today I put on PDN Grandes Vacances. It doesn’t have much staying power, but is nice to spray on right after a shower. I get lemon or some other kind of citrus and perhaps a little vetiver.
I often apply something in the morning and then put something else on as SOTE.
Today is Joy again with Prada Iris shower gel. Amazingly this too works. I tend to add scents during the day as I keep some at my desk and generally have some samples in my bag. Also, generally after a shower in the evening I will spray soemthing before bed – may be refreshing or gentle/relaxing/soft depending on the weather and mood.
I am really looking forward to your review of Musc Monoi as I was keen to try to get to the shop to smell this one 🙂
SOTD is Nahema. On me, it is the truest rose scent I’ve ever smelled.
Since I have scent-glue skin, it will be my only perfume today. And even after a shower in the morning, I’ll still smell traces of it so will have to apply tomorrow’s scent to different spots.
I started the day off in CdG Ouarzazate, but it’s pretty much gone, so I think I will switch to something else. I normally have a scent of the day and a scent of the evening. Last night I put a spritz of L’Air du Désert Marocain on my chest and some L’Instant Millesime Iris on my wrists.
My scent wearing philosophy is shower to shower. I keep the same scent on (unless, of course, it’s an experiment and a scrubber) until my next shower. That way I don’t mess up any laying I may do with lotion and/or other scented items.
SOTD is biehl.parfumkunstwerke hb01. It’s a lovely honeyed-orange blossom/jasmine scent and oh so girly girl. I wore a chiffon print skirt and a lavender twin set today and it seemed very appropriate to the outfit.
Hee, hee. That reminded me of Shower to Shower body powder. I imagined someone who only perfumes themselves with that powder 🙂 I’m in a silly mood today.

Les Jeux sont Faits Jovoy Paris for the whole day, because it changes during the day and I like to follow the changes.
I am sampling MdO Violette Fumee today. It was a puff of smoke, and then pipe tobacco for quite a while. The violet is starting to creep in around the edges with a hint of sweetness. This became a skin scent on me really quickly so I probably will not go for a FB.
I tend to put on perfume in the morning and wear it all day unless it’s gone and I notice it–then I might put on something else. Today is shaping up to be a two-scent day because VF is fading fast.
SOTD is Tuscan Blood Orange by Pacifica.
I apply most things lightly (don’t want to offend my senses or the senses of my co-workers) and re-apply during the day if needed. That’s why I like rollerballs — they allow for silent application and less fragrance becomes airborne. I’m not sounding sneaky, am I? 🙂
I rarely apply a new scent in the evenings, but I will sometimes give new samples a “pre-test” on the back of my hand or arm (a place that’s easy to scrub) when I get home from work.
Love Tuscan Blood Orange – I keep a bottle of the body butter in my desk for afternoon pick-me-ups, it’s so fresh and juicy.
I usually either reapply in the evening or pick a new scent. I tend to try new samples or re-try something I am unsure of in the evening. I also like putting on a scent for going to bed – I especially like Coco and Shalimar as bedtime scents. SOTD today is Sa Majeste La Rose. Not sure what I will try tonight – maybe I’ll add an even darker rose 😉
Jacomo de Jacomo, one of the first scents I ever bought, in 1981, on a trip to France. It’s still in production, though God only knows what it smells like now — but I bought a fresh bottle about ten years ago and it was unchanged, still pure masculine sophistication. (The company’s website lists notes that sound like the original composition, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.)
I love J de J and It’s been in my regular rotation since the early 80′ too.
Not always, but certainly at this time of the year, I do switch fragrance, usually late afternoon.
Mornings are reserved for the fresh citrus, herbal. cologne type fragrances. After a late afternoon shower, I start again with something more sophisticated.
Evening are for chypre, for leather, for woody spicy, even for a little amber. It’s like and extra luxury, to go with a pre-dinner cocktail.
… and SOTD is Eau d’Hadrien
This morning has been grey and rainy. I’m trying my sample of Balenciaga Paris L’essence again. I know many didn’t like it as well as the original Paris, but I found that too sweet for my taste. I think I prefer L’essence, though I don’t know that I’d need a FB of it.
If you have a Tjmaxx/Marshalls near you, you might want to check out their fragrance collection. Every few weeks or so I spot a bottle of L’essence.
Good to know. I live in Canada, so we have Winners, but it’s all part of the same company. I’ve become addicted to checking their perfume selection, and have managed a few good finds. I live in a pretty small city and don’t have access to anything beyond department store/limited Sephora for sampling or buying, and so the random selection at Winners can sometimes yield more interesting options. Lots of blind buys, but I’ve never had a problem returning things I don’t want to keep. I haven’t seen any of the Balenciagas, but I’ll keep my eyes open.
Wearing Samsara while dealing with a deeply frustrating matter and it is the scent support/comfort that I need right now. Boo. Hiss.
I have a little Oliban by Keiko Mecheri on my wrists, thanks to a generous sample someone named Joanna gave me last year. I’m loving it.
Lately, I’ve been applying several times a day, depending on how long what I’m testing lasts. I have a bunch of samples at work and I’m enjoying trying them as I please, in addition to the morning scents and the bedtime scents…but this frequency of application is a pretty new trend for me.
I’m just having so much fuuuuuuun…
I remember being intrigued by Keiko Mecheri’s Oliban but never got a chance to try it — it must be lovely!

Typically don’t reapply during the day and it just depends whether I continue with the same scent. If I really enjoyed it during the day, then I’m probably going to reapply in the evening. Yesterday’s L’Ame Soeur (Divine) was a perfect example – I couldn’t get enough of that scent so I added a tiny spray when I got home which lasted until bedtime. Otherwise, it’s a good time to try something new.
I usually will spray something for bedtime which is rarely the same as my day scent.
Does anyone have a good recipe for lavender tea? I have some fresh lavender growing and wants a good homemade tea recipe. Any suggestions?

Near the end of the article, Victoria describes how she re-created the recipe for a tea that she received as a gift (for the folks that don’t have access to a Guerlain boutique). Lavender is in her recipe.
Lushishly cool and wet here in the northern Rockies after a too hot day yesterday and perfect for my SOTD, Atelier’s Sous le Toit de Paris. Darker days always put me in the mood for violet or iris scents and this is one of my favorite violets, right up there with Mona’s Fumee.
One scent a day works best for me.
I tend to apply one thing in the morning and stick with it. My skin doesn’t seem to be of the “scent-eating” variety (or I’m not as prone to olfactory fatigue, whichever it is), so most things seem to last all day on me. I might reapply if I’m wearing something that doesn’t have great longevity, though. Or if I arrive home to find a package of samples in the mail, I’ll probably be trying out whatever I got. Whatever I put on earlier in the day will have faded enough not to interfere with sampling mania.
SOTD is PG Cuir Venenum (speaking of getting new stuff in the mail). I hadn’t smelled it in quite a while, but I got a decant from Surrender to Chance that arrived yesterday. This was one that I decided I absolutely loved early on in my perfumista-hood, but it’s sat on my buy list unbought. Now that I’m revisiting it, I’m thinking it’s not a bad thing that I didn’t buy it. I mean, I still like it, but I’m not sure I need a whole bottle of it. I didn’t remember the grapey note being quite so distinct. It’s kind of reminding me of Poison, which, given the name, might have been the point.
Also, I won the bottle of Cuir de Lancome I bid on yesterday! I was the only bidder!

I’m glad someone else smells that huge grape note in Cuir Venenum. When I posted that at Basenotes a few years ago everyone was aghast at what I smelled.
I never thought of it as a grape note in Cuir Venenum, but LT points out that the top notes smell like the first sniff of a good Belgian beer, such as Orval. That made me a bit paranoid about wearing it, initially, until I had tested it with friends to be sure it did not make me smell like I had been drinking. 🙂
Still, it’s my favorite orange blossom leather.
I tend to just apply in the morning and call it a day. I always carry 2-3 travalos in my bag just in case I leave the house in a rush or something though.
I wouldn’t mind reapplying but since I change what I wear almost everyday its pretty hard to have decants of everyone of them.

Hi! Today’s sotd was mitsouko edp. I normally sample a bit in the evening but mitsouko is my favourite so I didn’t want to disturb it. I wear it when I need extra comfort and support. Ive never tried layering perfume, I’m intrigued but wary of smelling like a perfume factory!
SOTM is Deep Woods Off (and perspiration) since I’ve been working in the garden. Not sure what I’ll put on after my shower.
I usually put something on in the morning and that’s that. Sometimes I try a sample just before I get into bed.

The truly weird-a$$ fragrance called Missoni (2006).
It smells as if I am eating Nutella with a spoon, on the beach, amid a bouquet of peonies and jasmine. Unique, I can’t think of anything else that smells like it.
It is a like, not a love, but extra points for trying to stand out from the crowd.

Bear, I used to like that one. It has bitter chocolate and a touch of melon (but not the obnoxious melon), too, right? I agree, it smells good and is much more interesting than most.
Actually, I liked it a lot but always thought how perfect it would be on the young Italian woman for whom it was designed, rather than my older cynical self. I should get it out this summer anyway.
Do try it, hajusuuri and sweetgrass. This is the one in the orange box and bottle, with orange and brown stripy knit accents.

Yes, bitter chocolate, hazelnuts and melon. The melon note is a bit aquatic so it sometimes skews fruity, sometimes aquatic, much like Dune for women Christian Dior.
I like it a lot – it has a variety of aromas competing simultaneously for my attention. Have you ever tried the Acqua version(pale blue bottle)?
I don’t think I’ve tried the Acqua one, although I meant to, since LT gave it 4 stars. The Missoni that he gave 5 stars to is the even older one, and both are by Maurice Roucel. I have the older one but haven’t gotten around to spending much time with it yet.
On whether I reapply: It depends. I have scents I know will last all day, and I put them on when I know I don’t want to / can’t reapply and I want a scent to last all day. I have scents I know won’t last and I put them on when I don’t want the scent to last all day.
Today I’m trying Aedes Iris Nazarena, which I just got in a sample, and I’m really liking it but I just can’t see how I justify spending $245. It’s lasted more than half the day so far…we’ll see if I reapply.
Iris Nazarena also comes in the 3 smaller refill bottles for $110. These are nice because can be gifted … the only thing is that my sister remarked that everybody was complimenting it and her first bottle is already drained …, so I’ll have to be careful with the third one to last me for some time 🙂

SOTD = VC&A Bois d’Iris
I got my decant from the Splitmeet. I had tucked it away after wearing it a few times and couldn’t not find it for a while. This one is FBW and it’s just a matter of time before one joins my collection. I must like the base of the VC&A perfumes (the special collection which name I can’t remember) because I also have Orchidee Vanille. I also have Rose Velours but I don’t recall if the base is similar — the rose part is gorgeous.
I practice perfume monogamy. In the evenings and at night, unless I have an evening event, I need a break from perfumes.

SOTD is Parfums de Nicolaï Le Temps d’Un Fete, which I’m trying for the first time. So far I like it better than any other “green floral” I’ve tried, but the genre may not be for me. I can appreciate the quality of it, though, and I’ve discovered that those scents often grow on me.
I usually only wear one perfume per day, unless I’m trying a sample that turns out to have poor longevity. Or if I’m perfume shopping, I’ll usually apply one spray of something to my chest (because I can’t bear to go commando) to leave my arms free for spritzing. I still prefer perfumes that last all day, but my perspective is starting to broaden.
SOTD for yesterday and today was Vetiver Tonka. I love it, but it doesn’t last a full day. If I’m wearing something fleeting, I will try to re-apply during the day, or add something else in the afternoon. I often put on a small dab of something completely other for sleeping.
