Monday scent of the day 6/9

Posted by Robin on 9 June 2014 84 Comments

Linden, dried leaf and flower

What's your fragrance today? I'm wearing Kerosene's Pretty Machine, one of the best linden fragrances I know. Another is Parfums d'Orsay Tilleul — I keep meaning to get a new sample of that one to see if it's changed, but I never seem to get around to it.

Reminder: this Friday (Friday the 13th!) wear your own version of 'Eau de Protection',* i.e. something that brings you good luck or otherwise makes you feel safe and happy. The following Friday, the 20th, will be Fruity Friday. And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi there, I’m wearing The Dreamer by Versace, cannot drink a gin&tonic anymore, so at least this way I sort of smell like it!

    Hi!
I am always looking for linden frags…
Last one I bought was Demeter’s… which is pretty decent but not the “Just opened blossoms with green linden leaves” that is my (still unfound) holly grial of linden frags.

I am wearing Sander for Men, by Jil Sander… which has some resinous drydown that plays really well against the veeeery slightly minty top notes. Its a dry mint… I cannot stand sweet mint… I automatically associate it with dental products! 😀

And I have not tried the Demeter! Do try the Pretty Machine if you can find it.

I’m wearing Knowing, and making notes for a review.

The park near my house where I run and sometimes picnic is full of linden trees. I’m anxiously waiting for them to bloom! It smells so amazing when they do. They seem a bit late this year.

I am wearing Balmain Ivoire (the current version), which I find to be a subtle and pleasant office scent (perfect for this Monday morning).

On another topic, has anyone tried the new Tom Ford Velvet Orchid? I love several of the non-exclusive line, especially Sahara Noir and Violet Blonde, but wasn’t crazy for Black Orchid. I wonder if this one is better.

bastet: I just noticed today on Nordstrom website that Violet Blonde, Sahara Noir and Black Orchid are all for sale. There is the rumor going around about VB being discontinued… I wonder if this is true or a repackaging or distribution issue…..

I got a sample yesterday but haven’t tried it on skin yet. But from the bottle it smells delicious- much warmer and smoother than Black Orchid. I’m looking forward to wearing it.

I’m wearing Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli for work, and after yoga and a shower tonight I’ll probably be in Jardins d’Ecrivans Wilde, which I’ve worn something like three times in the four days since I got the sample.

Or maybe I’ll do Tauer Zeta in the linden theme — I was just noticing this morning that the fragrance of the linden trees on my commute has totally faded.

LOVE all the community scents coming up!

Looking through the upcoming list, I thought I might have trouble with the July 4th one, then I realized that Kerosene is an American brand. Problem solved. I also have things by Slumberhouse, Olympic Orchids, Ineke, and Roxana Iluminatrd Perfume so I guess I have more options than I initially thought

Rainy, yucky day in NY today. Bah-humbug!
Trying a sample from the Freebie exchange (graciously shipped all the way from South Africa by Merlin) of Dipytique’s Philosykos edt. I actually own a bottle of the edp, but never got acquainted with the edt — which is quite different I must say. More green? and not as sweet and thick as the edp. I like it! a lot!
The fig is wonderful to smell as I sit at my desk working away…

I know I preferred the EdT of L’Ombre dans L’Eau, but can’t ever seem to remember which Philosykos I liked best. Doesn’t matter, I already own the EdT!

Philosykos is one that I prefer in EDT. In the EDP (and in SSS Fig Tree as well), I get a kind of wet-laundry note in the drydown that makes me think of what clothing smells like if you’re caught in the rain and get soaked through. It’s not bad, really, I just prefer the greener version.

So glad you are enjoying it! From what I remember I actually found the EDT to be more milky and sweet, and the EDP to be more woody. It seems that I may have to redo the experiment…

I also prefer the Volutes EDT which has a dryer and more dominant tobacco strain for contrast than the richer EDP.

i love the rose note in the L’ombre Dans L’eau EDP, but the greener EDT is probably more refreshing in summer…

I agree, for the cost I would want it to last longer. At least it won’t add to my ever expanding wish list.

I did refresh with Rose Ikebana – I left a sample vial at work in case I forgot perfume. It is a nice afternoon pick me up.

The only fig I cannot stand thus far is Ashoka by Neela Vermeire Creations. I imagine it has many fans, especially those that appreciate very complex scents, but this was weird on me — actually a scrubber ;(

      Happy fig hunting!

It’s rainy and gross in New York today, and my motivation to work is close to nil. It’s not helping that I have the Peggy Lee song “Is That All There Is?” stuck in my head. Talk about *bleak*.

Wearing a sample of Dior’s Mitzah on one arm and Paul and Joe’s Bleu on the other, trying to warm up the mood, the motivation, everything. It’s helping a little.

I am loving these daily scent polls. So nice to hear about what everyone is wearing and doing daily.

Today I wore 24 Faubourg and it matched very well with the sunny, balmy day! I think it would probably be a bit heavy during extremely hot days but that kind of weather is rare in Sweden, so I think I’m safe!
During lunch I swatched LUSH’s Lust solid perfume and got some on my nose by mistake, the entire city smelled of jasmine to me for half an hour. It’s a lovely jasmine too, the strawberry kind that my grows all over my grandmother’s old overgrown farm. It doesn’t go all ashtray on me and the solid variety is very convenient. Maybe I’ll buy some, but I rather want Après l’ondée more, and funds are scarce. Hm!

I hope friday won’t be too humid because my safety blanket scent is Mitsouko, which may turn into something of a stifler… At least I have the day off and needn’t torture my office mates with peachy chypre in summertime!

Pink peonies and white peonies scent my garden on a beautiful cool and sunny Monday. I brought some indoors this morning to scent my home, then I spritzed myself generously with L’Occitane’s Pivoine Délicate edt – peony, white peach, LOTV – and dabbed a bit of Pivoine Flora edp – peony with magnolia and violet – on pulse points to scent myself!

I used to walk home from work past a home with a pair of linden trees, the first time I’d ever smelled their fragrant blossoms. Don’t have any linden fragrances but am looking forward to trying some of those recommended, hoping to recapture that wonderful scent.

I have a quick question: does anyone have a good solution for closet storage that is not moth balls? I hate the way they smell, and aside from cedar chips, I’ve not had much success.

      As to your question:
Grind-up some spices or acquire some lavender, wrap it up in cheese cloth or something porous [something with a fine mesh as so the herbs or spices won’t filter through], or even use teabags as a sachet or to hang; this should help.

Very lightly, just one modest spray will make it through the entire day. I know it’s got such a terrible reputation and people just can’t stand it, but I’ve always had a soft spot for it. All things in moderation….particularly THIS thing! 😉

I love Giorgio for Men, although I am “mature” now and remember recoiling from it “back in the day”. I too have to apply it in moderation, my partner says it is wicked strong, but after a while I have trouble smelling it, although I know that patchouli is still going strong.

I don’t find it as difficult as many others have – in fact, I am enjoying its chilly vibe, but I don’t think it’s really me. Leaving soon to have my 2nd IPL facial. It was a nice sunny morning and I started with Miriam TdP, it is loud, so does not work every time on me, but today was the day for it. After good 6-7 hours of wear, in the evening that is, I suddenly went for vintage Tabac Blond, mostly since I finally (after so many years of trying) got myself a small bottle, and I am still mourning its top notes, they are ruined, but the rest is intact, so I put it on my wrist still ‘dancing around’: was it worth it? was it really? – my usual expensive vintage perfume dance… and then I put Cabochard on another wrist, also vintage, but less damaging to my pocket… and they behaved nicely together… it was a nice morning/day/evening in London for me… and now it rains and smells fantastic outside.

Fragrancenet! Thank you! I knew there was a site where Amouages are sometimes on sale, but I couldn’t remember what it was.

I just looked, and as a matter of fact, they do have the 100ml for under $200 with a coupon right now. That’s also cheaper than Amazon had the 50ml. Still too rich for my blood, but good to know.

I started the morning with Lanvin Arpege. I found some at a discounters and after reading all the reviews I was curious to try it. For how richly it started, it didn’t seem to last very long. And while I think it’s gorgeous, I’m not sure that I love it. I find it a bit too smooth and warm, but it may just be the wrong time of year to try it.

Today I wore Comme des Garçons Jaisalmer from a sample vial, and I can’t say I really liked it that much: unexpectedly cold and fresh and somewhat synthetic, not really my idea of incense (but very CdG nevertheless).

Iris Nazarena was my choice today and I’ve been happily getting wafts of it all day. Really a gorgeous iris.

Thanks Robin for making me wear d’Orsay Tilleul today. I love it but haven’t sprayed it for a while since I noticed that it tends to put me in a somewhat sad mood. Today, however, I am happily enjoying it.

Love all linden perfumes, especially those where you can really smell this note.

Today I am wearing Sage Onyx.

Monday SOTD was Tauer’s Phi. Love this but unfortunately didn’t have the $ to buy any of the first batch- just a sample- so hoping the next batch is of the same quality.

Chanel #19 EDT – vinty- today. It was a very busy day at work and I needed my go to power work scent. This one is perfect!

Love linden and should prob track down a sample of Pretty Machine. I have a bottle of Zeta- it’s lovely in the spring!

SOTD = Parfums DelRae Wit. I love it – definitely FB-worthy. Egads…me and my lemmings.

Linden is such a nice scent. Maybe I’ll wear Zeta tomorrow. I have to dig out my sample of Pretty Machine!

I was racking my brain for a “Eau de Protection” scent and now I have it 🙂

I am also wearing linden today, JM French Lime Blossom. A great background scent, very non-intrusive.
