Thursday scent of the day 5/29

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2014 85 Comments

Leonard Cohen

What's your fragrance today? I'm finishing up a review at the moment and am testing a few other things as well, so I'll share last night's bedtime fragrance instead: Aftelier Ancient Resins, developed for Leonard Cohen. I keep my bottle on my bedside table.

Reminder: tomorrow, we'll try our first coordinated / community scent of the day. Please try to think of your favorite fragrance note (or one of them, if you can't narrow down), wear your favorite fragrance that features that note, and tell us about it! If that doesn't work for you for whatever reason, no worries, chime in anyway. The following Friday, June 6, let's all try to wear something by Chanel.

I’m wearing Estee Lauder Sensuous to take advantage of the cool, rainy day. (Last night was The Body Shop Chocomania shower gel, body oil and EDT all.)

I’m so torn about which note to pick tomorrow!

Happy Thurs! I’m wearing Bottega Veneta eau Legere today b/c it is just too D@#^ cool and damp up here in the still under a polor vortex Poconos for anything but warm and cozy. If it gets to 50 degrees today, it will be a miracle. What I like esp. about the BV eau Legere is that it wears so close to the body that I can really enjoy spraying it on, unlike other orientals/chypres that need a gentle hand.

Chilly here too, but I think we might hit 60. We’ll see. No sun though.

And of course you smell great!

Thank you! I think the Bottega Veneta line is one of the best “new” releases done in years. I’m glad it works with my chemistry. It seems like some of the houses are picking up their game. I didn’t care for the newest BV one – too lemony for me – made me think they are trying to complete with Jour d’Hermes. But still good.

I’m just finding out about that Tom Ford Velvet Orchid…any chance there’s a review coming soon?

I couldn’t decide what outfit to wear today, and then had the same experience when picking out my SOTD. Ended up with Balenciaga Paris, which I usually love. Today it’s feeling a little sweet – wish I had gone with Bvlgari Omnia. Does any one else ever have SOTD regrets?

Definitely — that happened to me a lot when I worked in an office and was stuck with my choice no matter what. Now I work from home so I can always scrub and start over or layer something new on top if I’m not happy with my first choice.

We have wonderful sunny weather right now, feels like summer. Doubt it’ll last though, start of June is usually a bit chilly. SOTD Encense Mythique d’Orient. For some reason I only wear this in warmer weather unlike Rose Nacree which I think works in winter as well.

Curious about that one. Just got a sample of Myrrhe & Delires, which I tested this morning pre-shower. It’s nice, but I suspect not really me. Maybe more of a winter scent.

This one isn’t about incense or myrrh at all like you might expect from the name, but ambergris (the real stuff apparantly). I must say I don’t know any other perfume quite like it.
Rose Nacree d’Orient is a more traditional rose-patchouli-oud scent, very pretty though. (When I looked up the notes I like that Thierry Wassar is honest about that it contains an oud accord and not actual oud).

SOTD is Chanel Cuir de Russie. I got a sample, and first try, I was a little disappointed. Maybe I just like the idea of leather and not the actual smell? A month or two later, decided to give it another try, and I like it!  It is intriguing, and I keep wanting to smell my wrist. Also long lasting (I sprayed it last night and could still smell on my wrist this morning). The dry down is great, so I decided to wear it today as well. Enjoying immensely on this cool humid grey day.

I *really* want that one in the body cream. Haven’t even looked to see if they make it because I wouldn’t pay for it anyway, but the soap, which I got as a gift, is incredible — one of most heavily scented soaps I’ve ever had.

The soap is so strong you can use it to scent a sweater drawer or a whole closet. It’s sort of amazing. And the scent lasts for YEARS. It’s ridiculously expensive though.

Nu_Be’s Carbon today. Someone said it smells like pencil shavings and it does, with a big dollop of pepper and ginger. It’s a tiny bit too masculine for me, I think, but I love the ginger note and that’s why I tried it.

I have to have to have to sample Ancient Resins. But at the same time its probably better I don’t. It’s difficult wearing 1000 Kisses Deep because I have bits and pieces from the track running through my head all day, ‘the ponies run, the girls are young, the odds are there to beat…’

Perhaps AR would work though because it doesn’t reference a particular song – as far as I know.

I spent yet another day wrapped in a close layer of Carnal Flower, then this afternoon, I switched to an old sample of “Intimate Type” from Dawn Spencer Horowitz. It’s very nice, but doesn’t remind me of the discontinued vintage Revlon Intimate of my youth. I looked on her site, and it’s not even listed any more. I also own a bottle of the inexpensive reformulated Intimate produced by Jean Phillip, which I use as a bathroom spray. Maybe one day I will take a chance and buy a vintage bottle on Etsy.

On my inner elbows, I decided to re-test my Etro Musk sample. It’s a pleasant, clean musk, not really soapy. I own Etro Paisley and have samples of 4 or 5 other scents by them. The trouble is, they are all rather similar. These are probably good scents for the office, and most feel comforting to me. They must have a common ingredient.

I’ll probably wear Burberry Brit Sheer for a English perfume for the BN synchronized Fridays theme and fave note theme sync for here ( love citrus and roses).
