Etat Libre d’Orange Cologne ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 13 May 2014 6 Comments

Etat Libre d'Orange Cologne

French niche line Etat Libre d’Orange has launched Cologne, a new fragrance being introduced under the tag line 'a nice scent'. It is the brand's first release since 2013's La Fin du Monde.

The Cologne of Etat Libre d’Orange is a tender introduction to our sensual collection, a gentle initiation into our subversive world.

This is an adaptable cologne that showers your body with a fresh joy. It’s whatever you want it to be, and you make it your own. It’s an easy pleasure, a scent for everyone, to splash on all over and wear everywhere.

We offer you a new and different way to experience Etat Libre d’Orange. It’s a very nice cologne.

The notes feature blood orange, orange blossom, bergamot, jasmine, leather and musk.

Etat Libre d'Orange Cologne is available in 100 ml, €100.

As soon as I saw that I thought, Huh, I can’t believe they haven’t done a cologne already — it seems like a natural brand extension, and just the sort of thing people wouldn’t expect of them, which makes it perfect for Etat.

But $150 (Canadian) for a cologne? That’s kind of crazy. Mugler is like a quarter of that.

Yes, they waited so long it sort of seems like an afterthought, or an appeasement — see, here’s our nice one.

I like orange fragrances. The price for this one is a bit too steep. There are so many other brands that makes great orange fragrances. My question would be what is so special about this fragrance that makes it stand out from the others? If there is something special about it, then I would give it a try. Otherwise, I will stick to the ones I know.

Etat Libre generally does a good job, but it’s not an unreasonable question 🙂

Now if they’d just called it Cologne du Helena (Bonham Carter), as another in their line of quirky actor inspired scents, and added a note of betel-leaf juice, I’d be interested!

HBC really ought to have her own fragrance!
