Santa Maria Novella Cala Rossa ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 8 May 2014 7 Comments

cala-rossa-s

Italian niche line Santa Maria Novella has introduced Cala Rossa (red cove), a new fragrance inspired by Capraia, one of the 7 islands in the Tuscan Archipelago.

Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella introduces its latest perfumed creation: Eau de Cologne Cala Rossa. Cala Rossa is dedicated to the island of Capraia and its history, which is impassioned and fascinating like it [sic] aromas.
The aromatic and green top notes of wild lavender lead to balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus. Helichrysum, wild fennel and rockrose are the heart of this perfume that accompanies us on hidden paths through the shrublands, on the sharp rocks above the sea.
The gaze slips away towards far horizons in the shimmering lights of an island to contemplate.

Santa Maria Novella Cala Rossa is available in 100 ml Eau de Cologne.

Eek! On paper the notes sound yucky on this one. Lavender, mint and eucalyptus? My stomach is getting queasy just thinking about those notes. 🙂

I don’t know…could be a lovely herbal aromatic, like one of the early Diptyques.

My thoughts exactly. This is going to smell like a hospital.

This would make a good, therapeutic shower gel or lotion. Kind of like a stress reliever.

This sounds refreshing – and light, probably the notes would bloom better in dry hot weather vs. humid. I bet it has a similar (mint note excepted) vibe to Diptyque’s L’ Eau Trois, another favorite of mine.
It being an eau de cologne though, I bet it’s not meant to last a long time on skin, so layering Jicky over the top later in the day might work quite well!
