La Parfumerie Moderne is a new niche line founded by Philippe Neirinck in collaboration with perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato (of Parfum d'Empire). The brand debuts with three fragrances: Cuir X, Désarmant and No Sport.
Cuir X (above left) ~ "Cuir X is a story whispered in the bar of a prestigious luxury hotel in Paris, opposite the Tuileries, once patronized by kings, an emperor’s mistress and a Catalan genius walking an ocelot on a leash… Sipping whisky in a leather couch. Time stops. Starts moving backwards. Cabin trunks, club chairs, shagreen powder compacts… The iconic note of the 1920s, shared by flappers and adventurers, is revived with this amber and saffron-tinged leather, fine-grained, powdered with iris, mellowed in the base notes by the burnished tones of vanilla, cistus and tonka bean."
Désarmant (above center) ~ "Désarmant resurrects the scent of the mysterious bottle found in a splendid Neo-baroque luxury hotel… Now, putting out a lilac scent today is a pretty bold move. Of course, everybody loves the spring flower. But it’s been ages since perfumers have given it a starring role. Mossy undergrowth, luxuriant mauve clusters, vanilla-tinge nectar, and then that heady, animalic, almost leathery whiff the flowers exhale at the height of their blossoming… Désarmant returns lilac to its proper rank and refinement."
No Sport (above right) ~ "No Sport has the cheek of dressing up the queen of flowers as a dandy. Its name slyly refers to a quip by Winston Churchill, who lived in a famous Art Deco hotel in London during the Blitz… A balcony with a view on Hyde Park: the resinous green of galbanum, the moist earth of patchouli, the brush and roots of vetiver. In window boxes on the terraces, rose bushes are whipped – a time-honored tradition in English schools – by the bracing, minty lemony facets of geranium. As a counterpoint to this typically masculine note, the hay and almond tendrils of Sir Winston’s cigar. An original rose-tobacco accord, as witty as the great man’s bon mots."
La Parfumerie Moderne Cuir X, Désarmant and No Sport are available now at First in Fragrance in Germany or Jovoy Paris in France, €160 each for 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

I started reading…new niche line…..MEGO…..then Marc-Antoine Corticchiato (of Parfum d’Empire! OK to paraphrase Leo in Django Unchained – you have my curiousity and attention. Cuir X in particular.

Prix aux Faux copy strikes again! And it has not been ages since someone gave lilac a starring role–En Passant, anyone? Oh wait, maybe 2000 *was* ages ago.
There was another fairly recently, but can’t think of it at the moment. But it’s true that it’s rare, I guess.
