Byredo Flowerhead ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2014 11 Comments

Byredo Flowerhead

Niche line Byredo has launched Flowerhead, a new fragrance inspired by founder Ben Gorham's "own imagined Indian wedding ceremony" — his mother is from India and he had recently attended a traditional Indian wedding, in which flowers, and the exchange of flower leis, play a large role.

The notes include angelica seeds, cranberries, lemon, sambac jasmine, green notes, rose petals, tuberose, suede and ambergris.

Byredo Flowerhead can be found now at Luckyscent in the US, in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum ($145 / $220).

I’m always a sucker for anything that has references to India or an Indian origin.

Cranberries, however, has thrown me for a loop. I associate no fragrance at all to cranberries.

Luckyscent says cranberries, Cosmetics Business says lingonberries. Either way, will be a tart berry note…

Perhaps the lingonberries reference an Indian wedding in Sweden where Byredo is located.

Yeah, nothing says “India” like lingonberries.

Well, surely the scent can be inspired by India but be made with notes not native to India?

Though given the tenuous relationship between notes and ingredients I would have thought they would be more eager to pull out the ones that are more reminiscent (or stereotypical) of the East. )At least for their marketing statement.)

Sorry, my brackets got a bit disorientated there, lol!

I wasn’t trying to offend anyone. I just haven’t run across cranberry as an ingredient that I can attach any particular note to.

Hey, I wasn’t offended and wasn’t trying to offend you either 🙂

Oh, this could be very interesting. Perhaps a new Spring scent? 🙂

Great name! Interesting notes, and one worth a sniff.
