Happ & Stahns 1922 Lily Noir ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 21 November 2013 9 Comments

Happ & Stahns 1922 Lily Noir

Anthropologie's Happ & Stahns line has launched 1922 Lily Noir, a new fragrance for women. 1922 Lily Noir follows 2011's 1922 Lily Sanguine.

Inspired by The Grand Tour - a trip across Europe enjoyed by young ladies in the 19th century as a finishing course to their educations - this ethereal scent evokes exotic flowers, high teas and happy accidents. The eau de parfum is housed in an inkwell bottle steeped in a rich amethyst hue, while the more highly concentrated parfum is housed in replicas of crystal tear catchers from the era.

The notes include neroli, vanilla, balsam, black carnation and iris.

Happ & Stahns 1922 Lily Noir is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum ($68) or 10 ml Parfum ($30).

I thought the original Lily Sanguine was quite nice; in fact, I have been kicking myself for a while that I didn’t get a bottle while it was being clearanced out for $25 or so at my local Anthropologie. Will have to check this out.

Interesting that they’re releasing a flanker to something they discontinued a year or so ago! (They still carry the Happ & Stahns 1842 Rose Alba though.)

You know, I wouldn’t really call it a flanker, more like 2nd in a series? To be a flanker, it would have to be Lily Sanguine Noir, I think (?)

Either way, the packaging is lovely if not so elaborate as the Lily Sanguine, although the clearance price would be more compelling 🙂

I don’t know Anthropologie’s scents at all, but I *do* think the packaging here is awful pretty!

This sounds quite nice, I’ll have to check it out. I hope the neroli/vanilla/iris really comes through. I love the “inkwell” bottle and the graphic cap. So much better then that horrid Lily Sanguine bottle! Ugg!

My only complaint is the bottle for the “tear catcher” is not purple…but that one has lovely outer packaging too, and would make a nice gift.

What is black carnation? What makes it black? A note along with carnation, like patchouli or are they just trying to sound a bit goth with just a regular carnation? Does the iris make the carnation noir? I am not getting it.

I would imagine that it’s a fantasy note.

Would bet there’s lily, but don’t know for sure.
