That’s a very nice ripoff of the Cartier ad from last year, Guerlain.

Though much more expensive it reminds me of of old British tv ads for a chocolate bar called Fry’s Turkish Delight – and makes me smile!

Yay! This is great, thanks for pointing it out Bejoux 🙂

But seriously — the marketers should really stop all this orientalist bs in perfume advertising. It is 2013, and this stuff is offensive at best.

Agree entirely. Love Fry’s Turkish Delight though. One of my fave. treats ever.

Not many perfumes could live up to such a dramatic ad, but Shalimar is certainly one that does!

I know it is 2013, but I am disturbed when the beautiful man is wearing more makeup than the beautiful woman. What is he trying to hide? If it is 18th century, well then the man would be gloriously, foppishly wearing more paint, but it appears to be a mash of styles from earlier times. What century did we wear priceless jewels in the bath tub? What century did we start bathing regularly? You cannot hang out in the drafty, poorly heated castle so scantily clad. For the answers to all these compelling questions, well they will not be gleaned in this dumb commercial. Also I do not want to buy or smell Shalimar after viewing this and that was the point ……

No no! If you have not tried Shalimar you must! Forget the ad. Even the best ads never stand up to any literal interpretation anyway.

Doesn’t EVERYONE wear their precious jewels in the bathtub?

        I sure do, lol.

I thought of Lord of the Rings or something and I am not a fan of LOTR, too nerdy. The ad deters me from wanting to try it.

political correctness or lack thereof aside, i think this commercial is very beautiful. and natalia is gorgeous. definitely looks younger than her 31 years (not that 31 is old, of course… but she looks like she could still do ads for juicy couture and the like).

Well that certainly displaced my image of Shalimar – which was a childhood memory of my father giving a bottle in a beautiful purple very luxurious gift from my father to my mother.

In my mind that lady is not in a bathtub, she is in a sacred ritual bathing pool before her wedding, surrounded by her female relatives, friends and future in laws (and showing off some serious bridal jewelery).

I kept rewinding to 1) look at the cute ears and bottoms of the elephants and 2) try to figure out what kinds of birds were flying past. I also liked the sidewinding snake in the candy commercial. Guess you know where my mind is at 🙂 As for Shalimar, my first experience of it was when I was 19. My boyfriend’s (now husband) parents would be away for the weekend, and the two of us would have the house to ourselves. I would use his mom’s Shalimar while I was there. I gave her a jar of Shalimar body crème last year for her birthday. She was very happy.
