Photographer Austin Young and perfumer Brent Leonesio of Smell Bent have collaborated with The Institute for Art and Olfaction on Accident, a new limited edition fragrance:
The Institute for Art and Olfaction teamed up with artist and provocateur Austin Young for a very transformative collaboration, unleashing the olfactory prowess of Los Angeles based perfumer Brent Leonesio to create a new edition of perfume: ‘Accident’.
The project was in support of Austin Young’s crowd-sourced participatory art experience and musical:‘TBD’. ‘Accident’ premiered at the ‘TBD’ Slumber Party and Final Workshop on Friday August 9, 2013.
[...] For the perfume itself, Brent Leonesio set out to find olfactory beauty in unexpected places. Leonesio describes Accident as ‘the lingering whiff of gasoline on your fingertips that you can’t stop sniffing; the familiar and the strange; the contrast elucidated when exotic floral extracts hold hands with other-worldly aroma chemicals. Accident is a collision of ideas, a harmonic discord.’Notes: Gasoline vapor, Perfume spilled down a bucket seat, Safety glass, A smoking tire, A last minute dab of face powder, The smell of a mechanic.

I guess the Institute presents paintings, etc as “Årt”, has a fragrance department which it calls “Olfaction” to avoid arguments as to whether fragrance is “Art”

I can’t decide if the list of notes is a welcome burst of descriptive language or merely pretentious. It may or may not annoy me.
I do, however, like the wrapped string on the caps–very pretty and I like the implication that each is unique.

The packaging looks great. They only did 100 bottles, so I assume they could have done them by hand.
I’m annoyed by the list of notes, but I do like the caps.

If you can smell safety glass, then that means it’s broken, which usually means that something bad has happened — an accident or vandalism.
Mind you, I’ve never smelled it, and I don’t know if it has a smell, so this is just my imagination …
By which, I assume you mean “it is the smell of that sudden rush of adrenaline, an unexpected loss of inertia, that thrill and fear that comes from life-changing events!” Right? 😉

The list of notes sounds exactly like Breath of God smelled to me. And I must say, I like the bottles/packaging as much as any I’ve seen lately.
I agree the packaging is great looking. The notes sound hideous. What do I know, I’ve been in love with fragrance for 55 years!
