The sea and lemon trees

Posted by Robin on 28 June 2013 8 Comments

The sea and lemon trees.

I remember a day by the sea and waking up early and the sharp scent of lemon trees and the wind that brought salt and olives into the bedroom like a fairy story where the feast is invisible.

— From Days Like This, a short story by Jeanette Winterson, inspired by Oscar de la Renta's Granada fragrance. You can read the rest, and find links to three other stories inspired by recent fragrances, at Stylist.

Has anyone tried this series? I am really anxious to try them and yet my access to any of them involves at least a three hour drive. 🙁

Sorry, by series, I mean the Oscar de la Renta Essential Luxuries, specifically.

I have not, and have heard that a few of them are nice, but have not heard anything that would make me drive even 30 minutes.

Thanks for the clarification! The perfume may not be worth a 3 hour drive, but a work by Jeanette Winterson, regardless of its initial inspiration, most probably is:)

The Passion, Oranges are not the only Fruit and Sexing the Cherry are probably my favourites…

Oranges are not the Only Fruit is a good book. I need to read more of her work.

Hi LaMaroc, I have tried a few from this line… I really want a bottle of one (Mi Corazon). I wrote something about Mi Corazon on my blog. I think it is worth checking out. There haven’t been many reviews I can refer you to, and I’ve seen online comments all over the place. Anyway.

Thanks for responding! I just read your review on your blog for Mi Corazon and noticed the other you tried was Oriental Lace, which are the top two that pique my interest, followed by Santo Domingo and Coralina. Mi Corazon sounds scrumptious but I definitely don’t need another tuberose in my collection – at least at that price point! *sigh* If anything, this has whipped my appetite into more of a frenzy. lol I’ve always like Oscar’s line of fragrances and Ruffles is actually one of my all-time hall of fame favorites.

Winterson is one of my favorite authors!

Seems Oscar de la Renta is doing the Dior thing – exclusives inspired – or mostly inspired – by places.
