Amouage has launched Opus VII, the seventh fragrance in the niche brand’s Library Collection (see I, II, III, IV, V, VI).
Opus VII is a green, woody and leather fragrance that arouses the juxtaposition of harmony with the intensity of reasoning between conflicting ideas and beliefs. Amouage’s Library Collection is a celebration of integrity, creativity and virtuosity. Inspired by the knowledge and experience drawn from the art of living, each of the seven fragrances reveal the many facets of a discovery.
Opus VII was developed by perfumers Alberto Morillas and Pierre Negrin; notes include galbanum, pink pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, fenugreek, agarwood smoke, patchouli, ambrox, leather, ambergris, costus root, muscone, sandalwood, olibanum and cypriol.
Amouage Opus VII is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, $325.

I’m a fan of Amouage but I’m massively behind on the Opus line. I tried the first 3 but none of them appealed so I lost interest. This sounds quite promising, though, so perhaps I should catch up.
I think I’ve tried them all, but wouldn’t swear to it. The style doesn’t really suit me (so far), although they’re quite nicely done.
Yeah, similar to Abyss, I haven’t tried too hard to keep up with these. I think I have a totally unreasonable bias against perfumes with nondescript, numbered names. Opus V or VI? I dunno. Somehow, the lack of character turns me away. Like abstract art with names like “object #45.” With no other information to go on, it’s like my brain just sort of files it away as “undefined” and moves on.
I recognize that this may be a flaw in my thinking that I could work on. 🙂
I’m totally with you there. The sequential roman numerals seem pretentious and vague at the same time. The price tag on these also kind of irks me.
They’re really spendy. But they do have fans.
As I own 100mL of Memoir and 50mL of Ubar, I guess I shouldn’t comment! I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on anything less than total adoration, though!
I’m one of those fans. I have III and VI. Both beautiful. I try to repress my eye rolling with the Roman numerals, because if you can get past the pretense, they’re some great scents. My only other bitch (can I say that?) is that the bottles are really awkward. Easily tip over and if you have small hands, hard to spray. They’re meant to be “book-like” but who sprays from Madame Bovary?? Oh well.
I was thinking about the getting the library sampler but was afraid I would like some of them too much, and the price is too much for me right now. I do love the new Interlude Man and I’m working my way through small decant from Surrender to Chance, so that is one that I may shell out for. Still don’t agree with the price point though.
I love a couple of the Opuses / Opera — notably I and III and would gladly have bottles of those. I didn’t like VI at all though it was very well received. I’m in no hurry to try VII … maybe I will some day.
VI definitely did not work for me either…
There’s one of these I really like, but thanks to the damn numbers, I can’t remember which one 😉 maybe I? It reminded me a bit of Jub 25, which is on my list (already have Lyric, Memoir and Epic, so I guess I’m a bit of an Amouage groupie 🙂 )
Costus toot???
OK I admit I’m on a bit of a costus trail at the moment being re-obsessed with my sadly dwindling decant of Fille d’Eve. I’m guessing this is a synthetic version of costus since in addition to other interesting materials it has fallen foul of IFRA. Anyway, like other commentators I have rather fallen behind with the library collection – def “overdue” a look…..

Love Opus 1, love Ubar. This sounds appealing. Agree the bottles are ugly and the naming convention silly.
