French niche line L’Artisan Parfumeur will launch Caligna, a new woody aromatic fragrance. Caligna will be fronted by dancer Gudrun Ghesquière.

L’Artisan Parfumeur, together with perfumer Dora Baghriche-Arnaud, honours an emblematic but less well-known ingredient of the Grasse region: the clary sage. Fresh and sensual, green and woody, fruity and ambery, the highly-facetted clary sage was the starting point for this perfume, and is married to, and enhanced with notes of fig and a jasmine marmalade accord, with all the natural richness of this iconic flower, resulting in an incomparable freshness and luminosity. The warm woody effect of the perfume’s base comes from the resinous depth of lentisk, a native plant of the maquis, and from pine needles, redolent of Mediterranean hillsides.
L'Artisan Parfumeur Caligna will be available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, £95.

oooh, an herbal scent from L’Artisan! can’t wait to try this – from any other line, this might be too overbearing to me with all the woods, but i love the way l’artisans treat woods. hoping for an airy, herby wood scent.
It sounds fantastic, but also like it could be very different than my imaginings…
Is Duchafour no longer the house perfumer?
He was never really the house perfumer in the usual sense…they said from the beginning that they would continue to work with other perfumers and he would continue to create for other brands.
I’m excited for this perfume! A clary sage/herbal perfume is not necessarily something in my usual wheelhouse, but it’s still different and exciting.
I think part of my interest is driven by the fact that the perfumer is relatively young and unknown… I’m just kind of getting tired of the usual suspects, you know? Kudos to L’Artisan for changing it up!

It’s sounding like a new warm weather fragrance for me…or at least a large sample! Just what I needed to hear when looking at outside at 20 in of snow. 🙂

I can’t even imagine how this one will come out – “enhanced with notes of fig and a jasmine marmalade accord” reads like hedging ones bet with a fruity floral accord. Hope this one goes for broke and doesn’t compromise too much.
Like Lys, I’m having a hard time imagining what it will be like. Clary sage can be pretty pungent so seeing it being paired with pine needles and resinous whatsit is making me think it won’t be my style. Add to that fig and jasmine and I’m curious about it but in a morbid kind of way.
This list of ingredients feels like a breathing treatment! I dug my heels in when we got to “fruity”, until I found out it was fig.I can’t wait to give this one a try. Sounds euphoric!
This is another one I’m looking forward to. So far it looks like 2013 might not be a good year for my wallet. There are quite a few new things I want to try. And, be still my heart, it’s not a fruity floral and no oud.
Love clary sage, and am excited to get to try something NOT by M. Duchaufour. I like that L’Artisan is doing something not entirely predictable, even though they have expanded their distribution; that’s a good sign, I think.
I’ll keep an eye on this one! I generally get along quite well with L’Artisan, especially the herbal and woody/spicy scents of theirs. L’Eau de L’Artisan is one of my favorite herbal/fresh scents. Will see if I can sample this one soon.
This sounds stunning. I’ve always wondered why clary sage isn’t a more popular and mainstream note. From my experiments with essential oils and absolutes I remember it being very beautiful and very accessible. It smells like a sugary Thai iced tea!
