Posted by Robin on 21 June 2012 34 Comments

Comme des Garcons Amazingreen

Comme des Garçons will launch Amazingreen, a new unisex fragrance, in July.

Amazingreen was developed by perfumer Jean-Christophe Herault; the notes feature palm tree leaves, green pepper, dew mist, jungle leaves, ivy leaves, orris, coriander, silex, gunpowder accord, vetiver, smoke and white musk.

Comme des Garçons Amazingreen will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

That is quite a list of notes! I’m intrigued by the gunpowder and smoke as I love the smell of both – and mixed with vetiver, orris and coriander? My nose will leading to me to CdG come July…

I’m not sure I even know what gunpowder smells like! Is it metallic? I sort of imagine it smells like hot metal and fireworks. Is that vaguely right?

Maybe it’s a tea note? There’s a special kind of green tea called “gunpowder”.

I was thinking of the tea, too! Especially since gunpowder tea is a green one. That’d be in keeping with the theme, right? I guess we’ll have to wait for more info!

It’s sulfuric and smells exactly like the odor you get after fireworks, which of course, contain gunpowder.

Sulfuric is…..an interesting note. I bet if the rotten egginess can be muted, and the fizzy effervesence can be turned up, that could be great. I think.

It does smell like the air after fireworks; that sulphuric scent that often blows over after the finale. Also the note immediately made me think of pop-cap strips, the kind you could load in a toy gun or bash with rocks to make them spark and pop. Love that smell! Ooh and a just blown out match..

I love those smells too and will have to sniff this, if I can find a CDG stockist anywhere near me. . .

Doubt they will smell any different than other “green leaves” notes, but it does sound cool!

I want this. I want this! The ivy note is giving me a little worry (I’ve never recovered from a bad run-in with Diptyque’s Eau de Lierre), and I’m holding my breath and hoping that they won’t have added any heavy galbanum or box to the mix. But ohhhhhh, this might just be wonderful. I mustn’t get my hopes up. No. Stop it.

LOL! We are on opposite ends: Lierre was not heavily green enough for me 🙂

Gunpowder? How does that smell? Probably somewhat metallic? This might be interesting, if it’s not too heavy on vetiver (vetiver is my problematic note).
And I’ve never tried anything from Comme des Garcons.

Any one old enough to have had a cap gun? That is what gunpowder smells like. Good smell!

Thanks! Thought I had made a mis-step. The scent of those caps was wonderful. I suspect the girls liked the smell and the boys liked the noise. I’m sure this no longer acceptable fun for kids. Actually, the green peppers frighten me more. I know they pack heat!

It’s so funny how all of us who had cap guns are excited about the gunpowder note. I have to say it’ll be a letdown if they really are talking about the gunpowder green tea.

I guess fume heads are generally not NRA members. Gunpowder green tea would probably smell better with Iris and ivy. I agree that it is a little hard to see what role the green pepper scent will have in that mix.

Im excited. Comme Des Garcons is one of my favorite houses, and i still have plenty of catching up to do, but this will go on my sniff list.

In yesterday’s review of Petrolium, Kevin confessed to being a ‘gas fume sniffer.’ I confess I love the smell of sulfur from a spent match or candle. One of my favorite parts of the birthday cake ritual is to huff the smoke that rises from just extinguished candles. My sister and I would squabble for the most advantageous spot by the cake. I so hope the gunpowder note in this is just like that!

Hi Perfumista8 – ditto. Yesterday I prissily spoke about not liking petroleum fumes – today I must fess up to being partial to a sniff of gunpowder and extinguished candles! Everything CdG I have smelled is clever and unusual. Looking forward to this.

Terrible name. But I can’t wait to smell it! And I’m so pleased it’s in that bottle, too. Would love to own one of those and don’t care for the original CDG.

This sounds AMAZING. Although, all they gotta do is thrown in some ‘napalm accord’ and this is the scent of ‘nam… :/

This turns out to be pleasant but not nearly as distinguished as we have come to expect from CdG. The gunpowder note is almost non-existant. (Try Smalto’s Full Choke for a better version of gun powder – and a cool bottle too.) Incense does waft in and out of the mix, but never becomes strong enough for my taste. There’s a good tang of Bay in the opening notes, but Penhaligon’s Sartorial covers that ground better. The CdG bottle is very cool in the metallic green though…
