The earth is the original perfumer

Posted by Robin on 9 June 2012 4 Comments

The earth is the original perfumer. Through wind and rain; through rivers and water; through trees and flowers, nature reveals her scents and secrets. Man just translates. If you are good, you create a scent that causes good vibrations; you create something sacred.

— Serge Lutens, talking to LiveMint about his upcoming fragrance, Santal Majuscule. Read more at Using scents to tell stories.

At first I thought this quote sounded silly…but then I realized…he’s right!

I dislike many SL scents, but the ones I love, I REALLY love. He’s an original, an artist, and a visionary.

Most of his pronouncements are so obscure — loved this one because it was intelligible to me 🙂

Can’t decide if I like Nuit de Cellophane, one day I hate it, the same with FEMINITE DU BOIS, cannot decide but the other 10-14 I own I love. Timbuktu was a surprise from a friend. I am loving it. Not related just to share…
