Failure to promote

Posted by Robin on 16 April 2012 2 Comments

A New York judge Friday ordered pop star Prince to pay $3.95 million to a perfume maker for failing to promote the 3121 line of scents.

— Remember that lawsuit? A referee fixed the dollar amount last September, now a judge has confirmed it. Read the whole story at Prince Ordered by Judge to Pay Nearly $4 Million to Perfume Maker at Hollywood Reporter. Hat tip to Emily!

Really, promotion is so easy these days. Just put something up on Facebook and YouTube, make some Macy’s appearances, do a few print ads and there you go. I don’t understand why Prince even decided to do the perfume thing if he didn’t want to do any minimal promotion. Though I did get the coolest musical card with a peel-off sample from Macy’s when this launched and am still happy to own a couple bottles and ancillary products (the candle’s really nice.) It really is a pleasant enough scent and not much like other celeb scents. Probably with the right promotion, it would have done all right and made as much profit as he’ll have to pay for the lawsuit. *shakes head*

It’s puzzling. Can’t tell from the article who had the original idea for doing a Prince perfume.
