Yves Saint Laurent Opium Vapeurs de Parfum ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 March 2012 16 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent Opium Vapeurs de Parfum

Yves Saint Laurent will launch Opium Vapeurs de Parfum next month. The new fragrance for women is a flanker to 1977's Opium, and follows 2010's Belle de Opium.

The new scent is still as glamorous but is a softer side of Opium that blends the floriental notes of the original with a fresh femininity thanks to the addition of spicy pink pepper and soft orange blossom.

Additional notes include mandarin, jasmine, patchouli, benzoin and vanilla.

Yves Saint Laurent Opium Vapeurs de Parfum will be available in 50, 75 and 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

Is this name for real? This is like something we would make up over here. “Vapeurs de Parfum. When you can’t handle anything remotely resembling real perfume.”

Bet you anything this is Coco Mademoiselle: YSL Edition.

I’m surprised at the name — it’s too easy to joke about.

Vapeurs de Parfum makes me laugh — like you open the bottle and it just evaporates away! Also, like the old fashioned southern expression, getting the vapors. I do declare.

I will try this but sounds like another vapid fruitichouli. I hate Belle d’Opium.

I did not like Belle d’Opium either. Actually, it’s been a long time since I’ve liked an Opium flanker, although they have done good ones in the past.

I loved the Opium d’éte, that came out in 2002, I think it was. Such a wonderful scent. It was light, but still had the Opium feeling about it 🙂

Has the world supply of pink pepper reached the endangered level yet?

      If only!

I thought the description of the update sounded kind of familiar (“spicy pink pepper and soft orange blossom”). Over on Perfume Shrine late last year (December 21st) there was a list of the projected top ten perfume notes for 2012, and sure enough, two of them were pink pepper and orange blossom. I’m betting you’ll see those two in a whole lot more scents this year, despite the fact that they’ve already been pretty much done to death.

If only is right! It’s not that I dislike pink pepper, I’m just so sick of it being in everything. Can’t they even just pick a different color pepper?

The name is perfect for Le Prix Eau Faux.

Has anyone tried the “summer” version of Opium that came out several years ago? There was both a men’s and women’s (in smoky-dark and golden-frosted bottle, respectively)? I’ve put both in my online shopping cart many times but always chickened out in the end.

That bottle looks really pretty..and ya, I’ll admit, I dig fumes with pink pepper sometimes..I’ll sniff it for sure…cause the notes read that I will at least like it:).

Against My Better Judgement and along with my Unyielding HATRED of Dreaded Flankers… This Actually kinda Tickles me in all the right places… I LOVE The Colour of the Bottle and Box, Love the sound of the Notes and if it is even a little bit close in smelling like Opium it should be Wonderful… One Hopes… Looking forward to this, Strangely!

The name in French sounds absolutely lovely. I’m afraid you may be misunderstanding it. ‘Vapeurs’ conjures up something light and airy – it’s a very nice word. There are some preposterous names out there, but this isn’t one of them.

Oh good. Thanks for that. Sounds as if YSL was willing to take the risk of confusing its English speaking market, but I’m okay with that. Languages differ.

This perfume does seem like it might have been launched as a joke, and to use more pink pepper. I’m getting rather sick of seeing pink pepper in nearly everything nowadays. I might give it a sniff out of morbid curiosity but I highly doubt I’ll like it. Oh well, I’m hoping the next big thing is Star Anise (or basically what actually black licorice smells like) I’d love to see some smokey, leathery, vanilla, myrrh and licorice perfumes coming out soon.
