Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 2 March 2012 18 Comments

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire

Guerlain's La Petite Robe Noire, the 2009 limited distribution perfume inspired by the wardrobe basic “the little black dress”, has been reworked and will be relaunched this spring in general distribution.

Guerlain house perfumer Thierry Wasser developed the new version of La Petite Robe Noire; notes for the fruity floral include patchouli, almond, red fruits, bergamot, rose, licorice, smoked black tea, tonka bean, vanilla and iris.

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire will be available in 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

Mr. Morillas was right about “the trend is fruity fruity fruity.”
But why not give it a whiff?

The original was a fun gourmand — not my sort of thing, but makes more sense as a general release than an “exclusive”. Surprised they didn’t do this sooner.

I tried this in Paris @ Galleries Lafayette with a friend who loved it like almost two years ago, it’s like Angel minus the chocolate and with a hint of cola. Which is not a bad thing, it’s a lovely fragrance IMO. I’m actually going to let her know, this will probably be more affordable not that it’s going to be release to the masses.

Will be interesting to see how much they’ve changed it.

I always thought that this should have been a general launch rather than an exclusive, and I’m sure it will sell very well.

The new bottle and ad looks great but I’m a bit disappointed to see that it has been reworked. I’m a big fan of the original.

      We agree!

(I know they changed the bottle, but I didn’t even notice — what’s different?)

The original dress was longer and had an empire line. This dress is more kicky with a well-defined waist and A-line skirt. Since I love Lolita Lempicka, I look forward to this.

There was some criticism of the original bottle that the dress looked more like a nightgown.

I know I will not like it – red fruits and liquorice are not meant “pour me plaire”… and yet I am sooo excited about this new launch!
It’s Guerlain (reports say with an amped Guerlinade!!!!) and the ad is fab.
Eventually I will be disappointed: I will complain about the fruit, and about a Lutensian liquorice note… but at least now I have a new (sort-of-new) launch to look forward to.
    Happy!
    🙂

More Lolita Lempicka than Serge Lutens…

It’s a charming bottle and I love it too. I’m hoping that the content is just as lovely.

I’m a fan of the original LPRN; it appears that the new formulation will have new emphases:

Top notes: Black cherry and Bergamot.
    Heart: Black rose.
    Base: Smoky Tea and Patchouli.

Having not sampled the new version I couldn’t tell you if the licorice still makes a cameo, but it certainly appears to be downplayed. Clearly, the impression will be changed – less candied gourmand and more “class.”

Also, I’ve heard it is coming out in several different sizes and may be accompanied by some scented body products. The new box will feature the art by Kuntzel & Deygas. Hope this info is helpful.

I am worried. Guerlain is in different hands. I am also worried about M. Guerlain. He made an “off the cuff” comment and is being tortured about it. I wish that I could help him, but, of course, I cannot. I wrote to the House of Guerlain some time ago: “The world is a more beautiful place because of Guerlain”. Now I am so afraid that the tradition and the culture of that magnificent fragrance house may be lost. I will always try new Guerlain fragrances, just from deep loyalty, but I am worried.

I say let’s have faith. Worrying about it is not doing anyone any good. Nothing is permanent or could stay the same. I’m going to choose to feel optimistic about it.

I haven’t smelled the original version, but I’m really excited about this new release! 🙂 Almond, rose, smoked black tea, iris… sounds good! I’m not afraid of a few fruity notes either.

I was excited to try this, and the opening is very much blackberry/raspberry, sort of a sparkling berry. Considered buying it, but the drydown wasn’t very exciting. Perhaps I’ll spring for a small bottle. But it seems to be generating a lot of interest, all the tester bottles at Sephora were almost empty.
