LesNez Turtle Vetiver Front ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 21 February 2012 15 Comments

LesNez Turtle Vetiver Front

Swiss niche line LesNez has launched Turtle Vetiver Front, the second in the limited edition series that began in 2009 with Turtle Vetiver Exercise No. 1. Turtle Vetiver Front was developed by perfumer Isabelle Doyen.

For this new variation (Front), the smoky and flinty facets of vetiver are brought to the fore, with carbon paper and freshly printed newspaper effects; an unexpected coconut note softens this austere blend and makes this iteration more easily wearable than the first, while preserving its raw power.

Notes include vetiver, coconut lactone, moss and ambergris.

LesNez Turtle Vetiver Front is available now at Luckyscent, in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for $120.

This sounds bizarrely tempting, like a Comme des Garçons series scent. You can never have enough interesting vetivers.

Admit it doesn’t sound like a good combo to me, but I’m intrigued.

Lol, it HAD me at coconut. This sounds too weird NOT to try.

I’ve tried it twice, it starts off very smokey, then green and somehow coldish, I don’t get much coconut, so it’s worth a trial (I’m not much of a coconut note fan either)

How would you compare it to Exercise 1? For me, Exercise 1 smelled like a really bad barnfire, almost ashtrayish, but not quite. While I was intrigued, I don’t think I could ever wear it outside the house! I am hoping Front is more wearable (and I do like a coconut note if properly placed.)

I missed out the first one, so sorry, I can’t answer your question. I find this one rather harsh in the beginning, it takes a long time to mellow down. I normally don’t gender scents but this one is indeed very “masculine”, although publically wearable. vetiver extraordinaire remains my bench mark for an unabashed vetiver, not that I have tried so many yet.

Is coconut lactone another way of saying coconut milk?

No, it’s a synthetic coconut note.

Thanks Robin. I’m not really a fan of coconut in fragrances. I suppose I haven’t smelled my fair share of fragrances containing this note. Right now, Creed’s Virgin Island Water comes to mind and I definitely didn’t like that.

I didn’t like that either, but I do like some coconut scents, even some VERY coconut scents.

Might try this one. It sounds very intriguing (coconut lactone), and it just might be a wonderful summer scent 🙂

Just got this and I love it. What a wonderful intense, flinty vetiver. I don’t get coconut, which is just fine.
