Got to let you know

Posted by Robin on 15 February 2012 13 Comments

Liv Tyler covers INXS Need You Tonight for the upcoming Givenchy Very Irrésistible Electric Rose fragrance (due for launch in April). This is not the commercial though, just a music video.

Update: the video is no longer available, sorry!

Well, it’s not horrible. Just depressing. lol

The original was so effortlessly fun, cheeky and sexy – song & video. INXS were one of my favorite good-time bands of the 80s. They might occasionally discuss “issues” in their songs but it was always while quaffing a pint, dragging on a spliff and with one eye on the dance floor.

This video just reminds me of how hard everyone tries to be cool, now. To the point where they forget to enjoy themselves. I mean the song doesn’t lift my spirits or make me want to dance or even get off the couch. Ok, I’m sounding like an old fart but, seriously, is this what the kids call “fun” these days?

I was bracing myself to hear Liv Tyler’s singing voice but – sigh of relief – she’s not really singing is she? lol

I’m with you on this…the idea was cute for about 5 seconds, then the next 3 minutes dragged like mad.

OK now that’s just really weird. A sullen version of Need You Tonight (which was originally an upbeat party song) and a sullen Liv Tyler (who I adore).

    Just strange.

It is not her finest moment. Wonder what the commercial will be like.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Very Trent Reznor in feel. I have always thought Liv was gorgeous. Still won’t make me try the fragrance, though! 😀

I was a huge INXS fan……to me this looks like a cheap copy of something that should not be copied.

Michael Hutchence is rolling over in his grave. I was a big fan too. It’s just not the same without that sexy voice singing it.

It won’t play for me, but I also loved Michael Hutchence and I was offended when they did that next great singer contest to replace him a few years ago. What a sad life he had, then the irony of Bob Geldof raising Tigerlily as his own, even giving her his last name.

It feels very unhygienic to me! All those hands everywhere, and is she sniffing her armpit there at the beginning? And then there’s the guy with the fumigation spray in the middle. . .and have you ever tried to wear those leather pants? Not sexy if you’re sweaty! :p

The entirety of that video is a perfume commercial — why bother with a pre-release “music video” when it’s obvious what the express purpose is? Edit it down to the best 45 seconds of Liv, throw in a shot of the bottle and call it a day.

She looks tired and old. 🙁 In the beginning, there are strange moments where she seems to be sniffing her underarm – is that the “perfume” moment?!? And she’s wearing a bra *over* her tank-top. Really, guys? I thought Givenchy had something to do with haute couture…
Her singing is beyond horrible. Watching this “song” just made me feel really bad and shudder with disgust.
