Phaedon ~ new niche line

Posted by Robin on 30 January 2012 5 Comments

Phaedon perfumes

Phaedon is a new niche line that debuted in late 2011 with six fragrances. The line was named for Phaedo of Elis and is reportedly produced by perfumer Pierre Guillaume of Parfumerie Generale.*

Cendres de Thé - A smokey, dry, tea fragrance that is both elegant and masculine."

Dzhari ~ "Exotic, gourmand with notes of candied dates. A favorite!"

Grisens ~ "Delicate "gray" incense and sandalwood. Serene."

Noir Marine ~ "Peppermint and salty ocean notes. Addictive!"

Pluie de Soleil ~ "Light, fresh and a touch of whimiscal fruit notes."

Rue des Lilas ~ "An almondy, slightly green Lily of the Valley. Delightful!"

The Phaedon fragrances can be found now at Luckyscent, in 100 ml Eau de Toilette for $125.

*According to Luckyscent he was also the perfumer for two of the six fragrances, but he is not the owner of the brand. Fragrance & Art says the line was founded by "two Parisian aesthetes, frequent travelers and lovers of ancient cultures."

Pierre Guillaume of Parfumeire General? *ears prick up*

NOW I’m interested. Noir Marine sounds risky, but interesting.
Rue de Lilas has almond which attracts me like a mad bee.

Better hustle on over to LS for some samples.

I think you might be able to tell which ones he did if you read all the separate descriptions at Luckyscent…sorry I did not have time this morning.

I have a bit of Dzhari – it’s quite nice! I’d like to try the rest at some point, and I like the bottle design.

I picked up samples of several of these from Luckyscent last week: Cendres de The, Grisens, Noir Marine, Pluie de Soleil.

So far, I can say that Cendres de Thé is smooth, dry, and incredibly light (maybe better when used at greater strength than a sample vial allows?) and that Pluie de Soleil is more voluptuous. On me, it reminds me of the middle and end of Calyx, which was my signature scent for more than a decade but which I can no longer wear.

I tried Cendres de Thé and Grisens… Liked them both. The Cendres reminds me of Artek and the Grisens reminds me of Monocle Hinoki… Looking forward to trying Dzhari next.
