Never has a perfume evoked such emotion

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2011 16 Comments

Actress Emily Blunt, in a teaser for the upcoming Yves Saint Laurent Opium ad.

Below the jump, three ads featuring model Linda Evangelista for Opium. The first two (politically incorrect) ads are from 1986; the last of the three Evangelista ads (in French) is from 1995.

Way down at the bottom, model Natalya Semonova in a 1999 ad directed by David Lynch (who also did ads for the fragrance in 1992).

My hair looked like Linda’s in the 80s, but somehow the overall effect was just not quite the same, sigh.

LOL! I think my hair *tried* to look like that, but didn’t manage.

Sprayed some Opium on a card at the mall recently .Smelled nice -but as if it was a summer flanker of itself not Opium . Hmm…………….I wonder if 9 partial bottles is enough backstock of the vintage?

You need to come sit by me, and personally, I think you’d feel better if your back-up bottle total was in the double digits. Better safe than sorry!

I remember the 1999 ad, though I’m not sure if it was on TV or youtube surfing. It’s kind of lackluster. And I do love the 80’s stereotype of Asia (Gremlins springs to mind), and Linda Evangelista is stunning.

Emily Blunt is an interesting choice for Opium. She’s one of my favorite actresses and such a gorgeous young woman, but an Opium girl? And that one Linda Evangelista ad reminded me of Duran Duran’s Hungry Like the Wolf video!

The 1986 ones feel so “Indiana Jones” to me! Especially the second one! I kept expecting Harrison Ford to enter the screen!

Are they going to change the Opium Bottle?
The bottle appearing in this teaser seems to be transparent red, no? Or is it just the lighting?

The bottle was redone in 2009; doubt they’re doing it again.

I noticed that, too. Special edition maybe? I miss that bottle from the 80s.

It looks like Emily Blunt is storming into YSL’s headquarters to find the man in charge of reformulating Opium. You go, girl!
