Susan Tabak Sortir le Soir ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 12 September 2011 12 Comments

Susan Tabak Sortir le Soir

Susan Tabak, 'luxury expert' and author of Chic in Paris: Style Secrets and Best Addresses, has launched her debut perfume, Sortir le Soir:

A contemporary reinterpretation of a gardenia-inspired white floral, with notes of bergamot, mandarin orange, jasmine, freesia, amber and vanilla. A sensual, feminine fragrance that’s both chic and very wearable.

Sortir Le Soir was developed by perfumer Françoise Caron, and is $125 for an unknown quantity of Eau de Parfum. It can be purchased now at the Susan Tabak website.

Luxury expert? How exciting! I wish I had that job 🙂 I adore gardenia, but this doesn’t sound very interesting. What do you think?

I don’t really think anything…the description is pretty brief, and I have no reason to think she’s a brilliant fragrance designer.

I want to know how one becomes a luxury expert. I need a great job title like that.

I am hot and cold with white florals. The ones I like I really like. I’ll probably never get a chance to sniff this one though if it’s only on her website.

I’ve just clicked on the Amazon link: she’s a personal shopper. Bah! Can’t stand gardenia anyway. Pass.

It looks that way. I guess that makes one a luxury expert 😉

“Luxury expert” sounds like a job description that AbFab’s Edina & Patsy would fight over. But the fragrance sounds a bit thin even for them.

LOL — yes! And I just heard they’re doing more Ab Fabs, I’m so happy.

Well my top three fave notes are gardenia, vanilla, and amber, in no particular order, and the bottle is pretty cool, so if I ever see it, I may have to give a sniff.
As to the simplicity of the description, sometimes I find those overwrought, hyperanalyzed frag blurbs to be just a bit too much. I know one wants to find out all they can about a scent before trying it, but on occassion the hype just doesn’t live up to the real thing, and I’ve read about this in many of the threads here. If it’s a sensual and feminine fragrance w/such and such notes in it, then that’s usually all I need to know. The rest I can find out in person.

Don’t know about gardenia interpretation, flacon-wise it looks like someone from Monsieur Tresor de Lancome has been “sortir le soir” with Avril Lavigne – with expensive consequences.
