Mary J Blige My Life Blossom ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 31 July 2011 16 Comments

Mary J Blige My Life Blossom

Singer Mary J Blige will launch My Life Blossom, a new fragrance for women, next month. My Life Blossom is a flanker to last year's My Life, and like that scent was made in collaboration with Carol's Daughter. It will debut on HSN August 13th. One dollar will be donated to FFAWN (The Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now) for every bottle sold.

The new fragrance follows Mary on her journey of self-discovery, as she celebrates her inner peace, integrity and assuredness. Mirroring Mary's personal experiences, My Life Blossom was developed to exude confidence, grace and beauty. "Life can be beautiful when you're clear about who you are," Mary explains, in reference to the serenity that honesty fosters.

The notes feature gardenia, mandarin, freesia, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, marigold, sandalwood, cashmere wood  and vanilla.

Mary J Blige My Life Blossom will be available in Eau de Parfum; I will update with sizes when I can. (via prnewswire)

Update: My Life Blossom is available in 50 ml or 10 ml rollerball.

I have yet to try the original. I’ve really been wanting too. I used to despise FLORALS but now I really really enjoy them! I can always order one on HSN and take it back if I don’t care for it. I’m digging the white. Beautiful. : )

I didn’t try it either. Wish HSN would sell samples, but I guess they don’t have to…they’re selling all these celebrity perfumes like crazy.

Why should I care about her “journey of self discovery?” I mean really. Inner peace, confidence, blah blah blah. Nothing personal against her or anything, it just seems like all these ad copies sound the same.

It’s an angle. It doesn’t appeal to me, but it probably does to many people. Plenty of people don’t like to choose their fragrance just by grabbing it blindly off the shelf. They like a sense of connection or meaning.

I think that’s right on target.

Sorry, I guess I’m just kinda crabby today.

It all sounds quite mushy to me. Not that I don’t agree with the sentiments, I just think they could have been expressed with more originality, not to mention elegance and a little wit to liven it up…

I just cant wear perfumes with marigold as an ingredient. It has never been a scent that i have liked-we always had rows of them growing in our garden when i was a child and basically they stank. So I wont be trying this even if it does make it to our our shores.

I don’t understand marigold in perfume, either.

If it smells like the marigolds in my garden then I’m not interested either. Apart from that it sounds lovely and nice to see some of the proceeds being donated to charity. I wonder if Justin Bieber is having any regrets about donating all his profits considering how well it is selling.

It is difficult to say just which “marigold” is meant. Aside from the common marigold (Tagetes), there is the pot marigold (Calendula), which is often used in herbal medicine and is edible, and there are others as well.

I have Nicki Saint de Phalle (possibly not spelt correctly) and the marigold in it smells like my mums garden marigolds. The bottle is in my bathroom for visitors to squirt, its slowly going.

It’s hard to be sure from that picture, but the bottle looks very similar to the Love Ralph Lauren bottle.

Two thoughts, both firmly in the snark zone:

    1) Marigolds are something gardeners plant to deter pest bugs. Well, maybe that’s something Ms. Blige decided was necessary in her “journey of self-discovery.”

    2) “My life blossom” sounds like a euphemism…. paging Georgia O’Keefe…

I wish they offered samples as well. I had the chance to smell this fragrance in a store and I have to tell you I fell in love. I normally wear Juicy Couture or Dolce & Gabbana Ligh Blue but I think this will be my next “go to” scent. I just like to start off with samples just in case the fragrance doesn’t mix well with my natural scent because perfumes smell different on each person. But two thumbs up to this one!
