Van Cleef & Arpels Precious Oud ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 July 2011 22 Comments

Van Cleef & Arpels Precious Oud

Van Cleef & Arpels has launched Precious Oud, a new addition to 2009's Collection Extraordinaire. Precious Oud is a tribute to the "legendary ingredient, oud wood", and was developed by perfumer Amandine Marie.

The notes include bergamot, pink pepper, incense, jasmine, tuberose, patchouli, oud, sandalwood, vetiver and ambergris.

Van Cleef & Arpels Precious Oud is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum. (quote via Harvey Nichols, Dubai at Facebook, additional information via cosmoty.de)

apparently every niche line of prestige brands are gonna make something with Oud after Tom Ford made so much cash with his. waiting for Chanel’s version of Oud!

It is getting comical, not least because of how slooooowly some of them are about getting with the program!

You’re right – seems like a natural for the Chanel Exclusifs line!

I’m getting a little sick of oud, oud, oud, everywhere you turn: oud. ….just like with pink pepper..pink pepper, pink pepper, pink pepper…it was e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e………this bad boy is a double whammy: oud AND pink pepper.

now that I’m done kibittizing ….I like all the Collection Extraordinaire so I’ll need to get a sniff of this . IN SPITE of my growing boredom with oud. Good oud is fine….it’s well represented in my collection….this would have to be really special to merit a purchase.

I am tired of it too. I’ll try it if it appears in Neiman Marcus, but can’t say I’m excited about it.

Since there’s no perfume shopping to speak of in my area….I’ll find a sample somewhere….either one will find it’s way to me or I’ll slip one into the cart at LS. But it’ll be with almost a sense of duty rather than eagerness.

Duty? Whatever on earth for? Slap me if I ever feel a sense of duty to sniff everything!

The thing is, pink pepper is just a sort of basenote. It’s like complaining that everything has bergamot or incense.

And as for oud… yeah, getting tired of all the new launches only because I’m not sure how amazing and original any of the treatments are. But there are still probably 4 times as many rose or iris perfumes and more of those being launched all the time too, right? It’s just that 5-6 years ago, hardly anyone had heard of this ingredient.

My mantra: if it happens to cross my path and smells good, fine with me… but I’m not eager to be one of the first 100 people to sniff this.

Oh god, here it is… although I am most certainly as tired as the rest of the Oud Invasion, the other notes strangely appeal to me… The Tuberose, patchouli and sandalwood combo is calling to me on this one, I am definitely going to have to try, and if I like it may have to get some.

There is a Trish McEvoy Precious Oud perfume, it was actually launched at the beginning of the oud craze. Interesting, so many oud fragrances that perfume houses are even running out of names!!

I have BK Pure Oud and Rose Oud. The only other oud I really want is Amouage Homage Attar, although, realistically, my 1.5 ml decant of that is probably a lifetime supply, it’s so rich.

I fell hard for the earlier perfumes in this collection so if I get the chance I’d be happy to try this addition. That said, JHAG Midnight Oud is still my favourite oud and at a very reasonable cost.
