Thank you so much for this link, Robin! We had a storm here in Holland last night, which caused my TV to lose digital reception for all the BBC channels! This made me miss the last ten minutes of the program. Now I can catch up. I love this documentary series.

So far I have only seen the first 15 minutes of the whole thing…going to sit down later this week and watch it all.

Wow the Grossmith guy gave the royal family rep a couple of 2ml
samples? Now I don’t feel so bad about the meager amount of
samples I receive @ Macys et al.
And Ms. Gottlieb, I know you have to justify your job, but just copy
B&BW Coconut Lime Verena/Creed Virgin Island Water and be done with it.
I’m really enjoying this series, the best laugh was the two women on the telephone with the woman insisting they had to find a patchouli plant. The one woman must have hung up the phone three times just to make sure!!! And you know they would have had a b**chfest had the cameras not been there. Priceless!! 🙂

Ok, I’ll have to wait to see it to know what you mean about most of it, but I did see the patchouli plant — that was very funny!

and they were secretly pleased when that pitiful patchouli plant arrived, looking so glum and not at all rock and roll. Gosh, that whole Tommy Hilfiger Loud expose was a cringefest from start to finish.

I thought that scene made The Devil Wears Prada feel surprisingly realistic all of a sudden! All we were missing was the boss throwing her coat on the desk as she walked by! 🙂

I loved Chandler Burr’s mail deliveries…and spraying perfume on his thigh.

so it’s not just me who found 2ml samples funny? the funniest thing was that he described them as a gift that would be great if accepted.. patchouli plant – no comment, very rocky;-)

Thank you! I took a day off from work today to renew my passport and do other chores, so I am watching the first two…
    Interesting, but boring at times…

The Tommy Hillfiger LOUD meeting with him on the first part was very uncomfortable for me to watch.
The creative director pitching and pitching “It was not “we like it” it was more like “we love it” ” arghh!
Still I must say I loved loved loved what they did with the packaging on that one and the video with the TingTings… completely fresh and away from the RL clone that TH usually is. 😉

and how tense everyone was at that meeting until he said “I love it”

You know Robin, I hate to use harsh language.
But I could swear I heard theyr sphincters unclench in unison hehehehe! 😀 (sorry and feel free to delete if you find this too crude)

LOL! I don’t mind crude language and I was right there with you. I was uncomfortable for them even though I thought they were annoying! I’ve always hated the TH brand and every interview I’ve seen with TH himself makes me believe more and more than he has no soul. There’s just a computer chip in his head constantly crunching numbers.

THAT’S IT! I *knew* there was something off about him, now I know what it is! A computer chip instead of a soul!!! LOL! (However, I admit to owning more than a few Tommy garments–they tend to really flatter my figure, so I guess I’ll just have to squint at the tags a little from now on!)

Ouch! Well, he definitely has good business sense, as his line has been extremely successful!

It reminded me of why I hated the original video for this perfume; they showed a bunch of young people dancing to rock music. The message was Hilfiger was breaking new ground by promoting rock music (a musical form older than I am) by promoting the notion that young people might go out to listen to music and dance and wear perfume.
Yes, its a lovely bottle, but that kind of stupid message is really enough to turn me off.

And did you notice that their rock references were LP’s? I think a thumb drive would have been a little more in keeping with the generation, don’t you? (or an ipod?)

This was a fascinating documentary. As controversial as JP Guerlain is, he kind of warmed my heart – “ugly woman” comment and all. I dunno, I do kind of have a soft spot for crotchety old people (maybe since I know I’m well on my way to this?lol). The Guerlain, JC Ellena & Grossmith segments were my favorites. The marketing segments just made me feel sad which is pretty much what I expected. The story about the poverty-stricken woman in Brazil who washed her one bedsheet (or was it bathsheet?) every day, really touched my heart. When fragrance becomes so precious to you, *that’s* when it’s transcends all that marketing b.s. It makes an impact, a difference in her every day life.

I’ll take his crotchedy, non-PC comments over the soulless marketing of TH Loud any day. (not excusing his later racist comment, mind you)

The way that JC Ellena talks during his segment, I wonder if he’s a synesthete. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

Thank you so much for posting the next installment, I have so enjoyed these Robin. I adored JCE not surprisingly. And while the Tommy H marketing was often cringeworthy it was very interesting as well. I am a prosecutor and hear/read/am daily confronted with people spewing forth ugliness and doing unmentionable things to others, so Jean Paul Guerlain’s off color remarks don’t really bother me. Of course I do not appreciate/condone his racist remarks but they too are pretty low on the daily scale. And i must admit a soft soft spot for older folks- who tend to be less filtered. Until today, I have been pretty much uninterested in trying the Grossmiths but now I may seek out samples 🙂

Yes, thanks for posting these. Though I find as I begin watching I am feeling increasingly annoyed and alienated. I can just imagine how I’ll be at episode 4. I better take this in small doses…
