Odin 06 Amanu ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 13 June 2011 10 Comments

Odin 06 Amanu

Odin New York has launched 06 Amanu, their latest fragrance (they are skipping 05; the last was 04 Petrana):

The primitive ambiance of southern Mediterranean peaks combined with the ancient fertility of Anatolian soils brings forth an herbaceous blend of verdant galbanum and raw lentisque. The cortex of Amanu revolves around the woody rusticity of cedarleaf and the heady complexity of jasmine sambac. Rooting textures of amberwood, musk and live moss endow this earthy scent with a lush maturity.

Odin New York 06 Amanu is available now at Barneys, in 100 ml Eau de Toilette for $110. (via barneys, additional information via esquire)

Update: see a a review of 06 Amanu.

Does Chanel have such a legal or artistic stranglehold on the numeral 5 that nobody is allowed to use it, ever, in conjunction with a scent? It seems to me that Odin might reasonably have called this scent “05 Amanu” without the risk of anyone thinking it was from Chanel.

I haven’t tried the fourth one, but the first three were all nice enough, if mostly unexceptional. This sounds pretty good, if you can trust the list of notes: I don’t quite know what to make of “live moss”, but I like the idea of galbanum and sambac jasmine in a men’s scent.

I have no idea if they can legally prevent anyone from using 5 — but I’d say they have an artistic stranglehold on it, wouldn’t you? It’s the most famous perfume in the world, after all. So even if there would be no confusion (and agree there would not), personally, would not want to use the number if I were releasing a niche perfume.

    Odin could make “4+1”

Ugh! “Primitive”, “cortex” and “rooting textures” in the same paragraph make it sound like some kind of brain tumor – or at least a science fiction movie. Perhaps it should be poured into the Kokorico bottle. 🙂

Does sound like something to do with organic tissue! I quite like it, especially after all the ethereal unicorn breath.

Yeah, somebody had fun writing this one. “Rooting textures” is pretty darned funny.

NST men: do you feel like a Norse god when you wear Odin?

When I wear the first one, Nomad, if I feel like anything Norse, it’s a baker, because it smells mostly of coconut cream pie, for some reason.

01 Nomad is one of my all time favorites! And 04 Petrana was a very pretty iris (unusual for a ‘masculine’).. But it’s ridiculous that they would skip 05 for fear of Chanel! Seriously?!
