Diane by Diane von Furstenberg ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 25 May 2011 29 Comments

Diane fragrance by Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg will launch Diane, a new woody floral fragrance for women, in October. The scent is meant to be "powerful and seductive, without being aggressive".

Diane was developed by perfumer Aurélien Guichard; notes include frangipani and violet.

Diane by Diane von Furstenberg will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. (via wwd)

Update: additional notes include patchouli, myrrh and musk, and the fragrance will be available in both Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum.

Another update: see a review of Diane by Diane von Furstenberg.

Hmm, I really like Diane von Furstenberg – her clothing and personal style seem very real. I also admire the fact that Diane still looks like herself, not a plastic surgery caricature of what she looked like 25 yrs ago.
It is odd to me that they stress that this is “powerful and seductive, without being aggressive”. Why the apology? I suppose it is to make sure that perfume buyers don’t think this is the second coming of an 80’s powerhouse – though who know what it will be like, with only two notes listed!

I friggin’ love DVF. Sure, she might have been prettier during her modeling days, but I find her a great deal more inspiring now that she is a humongous success. As for the perfume: “aggressive”, sadly, is not considered to be a positive trait in a woman, and so they probably decided that women would not want to be associated with something aggressive. Frankly, I’m surprised they risked “powerful”. But it contains violet, and was made by Chinatown’s perfumer, so I’ll definitely check it out.

It IS weird, isn’t it? Are they trying to tell us that the perfume’s quiet and potentially office-friendly? The implication that aggression is an unfeminine trait is slightly depressing. God forbid women with ambition forget that they’re being unseemly.

That said, I’m always interested in woody florals, and the mere fact that “fruity” isn’t the first adjective mentioned makes me joyfully forget the strange gender-policing. I love a bit of wood, me.

It is sort of an apology, yes. I think Ari hit the nail on the head.

Hey, it kept your brain busy, therefore it staved off senility for, say, 10 more minutes 😉

HA! well, for me there isn’t any proof that senility wouldn’t be an improvement….

Two of my favorite notes together. Yay! Though I don’t mind aggressive, either, and love some of the 80’s powerhouse frags since I was too young to appreciate them during their hayday. Though I think my beloved Insolence already covers the aggressive violet area quite nicely.

Diane von Furstenberg? Aurélien Guichard? Frangipani & violet? These are all very good things. I will look forward to this one! And I’m not sure I mind about missing out the ‘aggressive’ note. Has anyone sniffed ‘D’ by DVF?

I admire DVF enough to seek this out, even if violet has never been a scent that really works on me (love it, can’t wear it).

I am looking forward to this fragrance very much! DVF had a couple of scents years ago that I liked – Tatiana & Vulcan d’Amour. Can’t wait to give this a sniff!

Has anyone tried D by DVF that came out a year or so ago? I’ve seen it on ebay and discounters and have heard it has iris, but I’ve been too timid (and broke) to try it.

I’m not too keen on the bottle. DVF designs such amazing clothes that look fantastic with really pretty patterns.

and she goes for a boring bottle that looks like a hip flask. and if it curves at the back, it will Thierry Mugler’s A*Men bottle.
I think she could have designed a far more better bottle than that.

do we know if it will going to department stores, or exclusive DVF stores? I’m guessing department stores by the look of the bottle, it’s not exactly high fashion.

VERY BEAUTIFUL And Simple, Classic Bottle! Think it is STUNNING! Chic! Which Ms. Von Furstenberg is kinda the Queen of Chic!

and yes did smell D by DVF and it is really very VERY well done… Kinda a Clean Fresh Floral without ANY traces of Fruity-ness… Almost with a Greenish Twinge to it… Seek it out, it is Very Desirable! you should get a bottle if you can!
