Prada Candy ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 22 May 2011 48 Comments

Prada Candy perfume

Prada will launch Prada Candy, a new oriental fragrance for women, in August. The new scent is reportedly excessive, impulsive and passionate, and marks a break with the existing Prada perfume line.

The notes feature a cocktail of musks, caramel and an overdose of benzoin.

Prada Candy will be available in 30, 50 and 80 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. (via parfum-femme.prime-beaute)

Update: see a review of Prada Candy.

Didn’t think Prada would be unleashing an “excessive, impulsive and passionate” oriental gourmand – I will definitely try, could be fabulously trashy.
But calling it “Candy”? The name screams stripper and seems to go with the juice but the bottle reminds me of something vintage, which I love. Almost a burlesque vibe . . .

As soon as I saw it, I was surprised it hadn’t been used already (and was surprised the first to take it was Prada).

Exactly! Marketing people for Victoria’s Secret and Juicy Couture must be gnashing their teeth, LOL!

It’s a surprise, for Prada. Even the ad is a surprise.

Certainly! I would never guessed it was Prada , maybe their second line Miou-miou suits better

I thought for sure I saw this wrong and that this was a perfume for the Miu Miu line. Have they ever released a fragrance for that line? If they haven’t they totally missed the marketing boat here. But then, Prada is more recognizable to most people than Miu Miu, even though the latter is targeted to the younger market.

Not too fond of the name, but I’ll try it. Any perfume that advertises an “overdose of benzoin” has me intrigued. Besides, it’s from Prada, who generally does fragrances well, although I’m not going to delude myself into thinking it’s going to be anything like their Benjoin. Well, maybe a poor girl’s Benjoin?

Agreed. They had me at “a break with the existing Prada perfume line” (of which I am only really familiar with the scented waters).

I can’t wait~that bottle sucked me right in! Well……that and the benjoin. Must be that latent stripper gene. It shows up at the most unpredictable moments………lol. I too am very curious as to who the nose is.

This just seems absolutely SO RIGHT For Miuccia… when others Zig, She Zags! This Sounds Disturbingly Fantabulous! Ms. Prada is known (and Known WELL) for her Subversive Streak and this REEKS of her wanting to Shake things up a bit… right down to the whimsical/smutty name of the Perfume! I for one fell HARD for the Original Prada Ambers for Women and Men… SO WELL DONE… and Infusion D’Iris and Infusion D’Homme are also quite well made… so i can expect this to follow suit! CANNOT WAIT! 😀

As other perfume enthusiasts stated above, the name is really an interesting choice for Prada, but I kind of like it. 🙂 Besides, a cocktail of musks and an overdose of benzoin sound just up my alley. Not to mention excessive! Only, I hope the name Candy doesn’t refer to its level of sweetness, me no likey.

I had the chance of smelling Candy and it’s kind of addictive. There is something very original about its chemistry because it changes constantly on the skin..Nose is the same- Daniela Andrier- and you can smell it. Sweet but elegant.

Come on, Prada as a fashion brand was never subtle or for discreet people…even a little bit vulgar! Candy might be their first perfume in touch wirh their image

The totally AWESOME APassionateJourney sent me a sample of Candy today! It’s Prada so I LOVE it automatically. Haha. JK! The top reminds me of Prada’s L’Ambree and Iris. Which isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s just Prada I guess. Haha. The rest honestly reminds me of a lighter Estee Lauder Sensuous. Which again, isn’t a bad thing in my book. I really do like it and hope you do too Robin! I look forward to getting a bottle. If the 30ml ever shows up. I’d be happy with the 50ml too! : )

I was really excited to smell Candy, and took a special trip to Neimen Marcus just to do so- and sadly to say, I was underwhelmed. I got an initial overdose of “powder” (not benzoin), and as it wore down it became (as my husband put it) “powdered caramel”. The staying power was great, but there wasn’t anything complex about it on my skin. Sidenote: I went over to the Tom Ford counter and sprayed on Black Violet on the other arm, having never smelled it, and I think I’m in love 🙂

The Prada Candy perfume was released on my wife’s birthday and here name is Candy. I have no choice but to buy this perfume for Christmas. I would say my hands are tied but your imagination might get carried away. It will make her smell as sweet as her name.
