Memo Shams ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 May 2011 11 Comments

Memo Shams fragrance

Niche fragrance house Memo has launched Shams, a unisex fragrance under the tag line "an oud in the house of the sun":

Shams means “sun” in Arabic. Legend has it that the persian god mithras climbed into his gold-covered chariot at dawn and whipped his horses forward to pull the sun across the sky until dusk. But at nightfall, on the verge of disappearing from the horizon, the sun was swallowed by a man, only to return to life at dawn… The sun makes our hearts swell in a hand-to-hand combat of pepper, ginger and saffron. It dazzles with a thousand desires and gives us power over the days and hours. Everyone gets lost in its scintillating, unreal brightness. Intoxicated with warmth, it accelerates our stride and consumes us in its passion. The only guide in the house of the sun is the haunting music of Oud, its main chords of Tonka bean, its dreams of wood and its promises of glorious love.

The notes include pepper, ginger, saffron, vetiver, cypriol, tonka bean, birch, tolu, styrax , oud and labdanum.

Memo Shams is available in 30 or 75 ml Eau de Parfum. (via mymemo, beaute-addict)

I think most of us are getting a bit tired of oud, and maybe it’s just the glittery adspeak seducing me, but this sounds as if it might be really nice. At least there’s nothing in the list of notes that makes me wince.

Speaking for myself, I’m WAY tired of oud.

Compared to most perfume copy, this one is really genius. Hyperbolic, of course, like any good romantic poem…

Sounds like something I would like to try. The bottle is not bad either.

It will be another few years, I think, before I want to smell another oud 🙂

I’m not tired of oud! Although it’s unlikely I’ll ever come across this, I certainly would be glad to—it sounds good! 🙂

I do wish this brand was easier to find in the US..I’d like to try some of their other scents.

Like the idea of the ingredients engaging in a little hand-to-hand combat!

As long as it isn’t on my skin 😉

I’m trying to think – is there another oud with tonka out there? I like the idea of this – the tonka might sweeten and smooth out the oud.

not that I’m DYING to try another oud. but an interesting oud could be… well, interesting. and i do like tonka.

I have the two BK Calice Becker ouds, Pure Oud and Rose Oud (plus a small decant of Amouage Homage Attar) and feel replete in that category.

I did order up a sample of Memo Manoa from TPC after March reviewed it and rather like it. It’s rare that I buy FBs from outside he US, though.
