I always loved this ad – classy yet playful. Now if only I could ‘get’ No 5. One of these days…. Thanks!

It is a great ad — I like it better than any of the “big star” ads they’ve done for No. 5.

I think maybe I’ve finally found *my* Chanel (can’t be a perfumista without one, right?)! I’m trying Chanel Pour Monsieur today, and really am enjoying it! (‘course, the SA called it Chanel pore mon-sewer. . . )

      In any case, cute ad!

Admirable commercial. (I’d never seen it before- did it run in the US?) Anyway, it’s nice to see an ad I like for a scent I love.

Pretty sure it ran in the US about a year after it ran in France.

Could someone tell me what she says at the end, ‘chanel…’ maybe no.5′ in French?

I have never bought Chanel No.5 in any form. Recently, after reading Mazzeo book, I decided to give it a try. There are 3 different concentrations on the market right now, plus Eau Premiere (did not like the latest)
Could anyone advise me which one captures the essence of original Chanel no 5 best? Which one is the prettiest to you?
BTW, the ad is fabulous. No wonder, Besson is a master.

According to Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez in Perfumes the A-Z Guide, the three different concentrations have ALWAYS been slightly different perfumes. They give the parfum and EdT 5 stars, and the EdP (and Eau Premiere) 4 stars, but that’s their taste, isn’t it? Why not test all three and see which one you like the best.

Thank you so much, I will test them all, but was curious what the perfumistas here think.!
        🙂

The parfum is probably the closest. Luca T thinks the EDT is 1950s work, but according to a promotional card I have from Chanel, the EDT was introduced in 1924, so in theory you would be safe with that too. In reality they have both changed somewhat over the years. The EDP is from the 1980s. There was an EDC too, for many years, now discontinued. There is a great site here you can go to for further info:

I love this ad, it might be up there with the Egoiste ad (original) and the Vanessa Paradis Coco commercial.

Hallo… Got really interested in the title… but actually, expected it a bit darker; I know channel 5 is not a “dark” perfume, but somehow, the ad seems to me pretty but plain 🙁
