I’m tired of pink perfume myself, but in this case it actually makes sense to me. The perfume has “Roses” in the name, the first not listed in rose, there are roses on the packaging–and most roses are pink.

It’s true. Paris pretty much has to be pink. It’s always been pink, so at least it isn’t pinkified for the modern consumer.

Hmm, sounds nice, I may actually have to try it. At least there’s no fruit in it.

I’ll be really surprised if there’s no fruit.

I tend to like the Paris flankers. They’re so wearable.

The packaging for this one is so… neon. Pretty, but I keep wanting to turn down the glare.

Which one is your favorite, mals? I’ve seen a few on discount sites but I can’t make up my mind which one to try first. I think it was Pont des Amours 2008 that piqued my interest most.

They usually do a good job, although admittedly I haven’t smelled the really recent ones. I’m sorry they’ve stopped changing the name every year — it made it so much easier to keep track of them.

I’m still learning notes, and I don’t actually think I’ve sniffed a rose scent before (which seems like a rather obvious gap in my knowledge) so I can’t say what I’d think.

However, I don’t think I like orange blossom? I was at Macy’s last week and when I asked the SA to point out a few things that were “new and/or unusual,” he directed me to Armani Code. Bleh! It had this uber-sweet floral, and when I asked him what it was, the SA lady next to us said “orange blossom.” So, I ask you wise folk–orange blossom? Not a hint of citrus to it to my nose. . .at least on the paper tester.

Orange blossom does not smell like orange peel or orange juice. I have a small bottle of neroli (orange blossom) oil, and it is a very sweet, heavy, rather “thick” smelling floral. I like it, but I can see how it would not be to everyone’s taste. It’s hard to say, though, just how much orange blossom will be in this one. You might just give it a sniff and see what you think. Actually, the biggest problem I have with orange blossom is that it makes me sleepy!

I can see how it could make you sleepy! I think one of the things I don’t like about the headier florals is that they almost makes my eyes squint! Like I’m trying to defend myself from a pollen onslaught or something!

Orange blossom is sweet, yes, but also very fresh and there should be a hint of actual orange there. I don’t recall Aramni Code as being particularly redolent of orange blossoms – or very likeable either (it’s also not exactly new…so much for Macy’s SA’s!)

Yes, I have been less than pleased when I’ve gone there looking to LEARN anything. They’re fine if I know what I want and just need to locate it, but give them an open-ended request and they’ve failed consistently. I once told a lady that was looking for something a little more feminine than Bvlgari Black but a similar depth, and she pointed me to a new celebrity flanker–Beyonce something maybe? So, back to the Perfume House I go!

My nose must have totally goofed Armani Code: my eyes saw purple-blue and I thought it was some kind of black-current scent! Perhaps my processing was disturbed by the wrong classification because I too went blech. Or maybe it really was just yuck on my skin. lutens Fleur de orangeur I remember liking, and divine enfant (which many don’t). ‘citrus’ in the perfume world seems often to refer more to lemon or bergamot, both lighter and more refreshing, I think???

Orange blossom does not smell of orange at all. It is a ‘white flower’ like jasmine, and slightly indolic like all ‘white flowers’.

This sounds lovely, very wearable, and if the notes are a bit ordinary, well that’s fine with me (so many new “weird” scents are out now. I’m probably just old fashioned but….)

Sounds nice. Frankly, I only smelled Paris on a card and have zero experience with its flankers. But this should change soon, as I have some samples coming in! Maybe then I’ll know more.

My favorite of the flankers is Roses des Boises. It’s berry and roses and a hint of soap. As Mals said, these flankers are so wearable and Roses des Boises is no exception. I wear it regularly in the spring.

I love the Paris flankers. I have 3 of them and like them all. I can’t wait to try this year’s version.

I love the Paris flankers, too, even though I never cared for Paris at all.

And I absolutely love the neon pink of this, even the box.

I think I’m going through some sort of second childhood……I am thisclose to getting that dang Cherry Bomb Killer heart shaped key chain thing, too.

Am I being grouchy or does this just bore the heck out of anyone else? I know I know… flanker mania, pink mania, comes with the territory, and the season, but I just wish a mainstream high end-ish line like YSL could have a little more restraint. They wouldn’t release the clothes version of this. Or maybe they would… Hermes does a good job keeping their clothes and fragrance in the same presented vein of quality and aesthetic I think. I love YSL for designs, particularly the 70’s years, and I just wish a designer company would just stick to its own concept of itself sometimes. Too cranky for a Friday? Its raining and I’m still moving if that excuses it.. 😉

It is already out…it looked to be exactly the same as this year so I didn’t even announce it, but I guess I should. Will see if I can find it again.
