Marc Jacobs Splash Cocktail Collection 2011 ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 23 January 2011 20 Comments

Marc Jacobs Cocktail Splash 2011 advertMarc Jacobs Splash Cocktail Collection Curacao

Marc Jacobs will launch his latest set of limited edition Splash fragrances, the Splash Cocktail Collection, in March. As the name implies, the inspiration comes from tropical fruit summer cocktails. There are three fragrances: Curacao, Ginger and Cranberry.

Curacao (blue) ~ developed by perfumer Yann Vasnier; a fruity chypre with citrus, blood orange, violet, apricot, pear, white moss and musk.

Ginger (yellow) ~ also from Yann Vasnier; a spicy fragrance with ginger, coriander, cognac, geranium, passion flower, rhubarb, musk and sandalwood.

Cranberry (pink) ~ developed by perfumer Richard Herpin; a fruity floral with cranberry, orange, honeysuckle, red currant, musk and exotic woods.

Marc Jacobs Splash Cocktail Collection Curacao, Ginger and Cranberry will be available in 300 ml Eau de Toilette, in splash bottles with spray attachments. (via cosmoty.de, additional information via parfum-femme.prime-beaute)

Update: see a review of Ginger Splash.

I agree, 300 ml is too big even for a bar 🙂

The first year they sold them, an SA in Bloomies swore up and down they were linen sprays, not personal fragrances….among other things, she noted that was why the bottle was so big. That still cracks me up.

Since they are splashes, you actually need 300 ml of these – they are very fleeting and you need a heavy hand. The ones I have tried, anyway.

It’s true with most of them – but Rain persists like a sunofagun. I’m particularly fond of cucumber and basil. Didn’t try the “patisserie” collection from last year (or the year before…)

It’s true, Rain just goes on & on forever. It was my wedding scent (I would have chosen differently if I knew then what I know now!). I do still love it though, so I’m glad I’ll never ever ever run out!

I have yet to meet a MJ Splash I’d pay for, but you never know!

Yeah, at $68 it’s hard to do it. I bought Cucumber at TJ Maxx for $20 or so. I hear the Apple is a good one (also Yann Vasnier), so I may wait til it hits discounters. Can’t imagine when I’ll ever use up all that Cucumber, though! It’s nice, and it has good longetivity. Great in the summer. BUT I have so many other fragrances, that this one won’t get much play. Splits, splits, splits. That’s my motto these days…

Was interested in Curacao before I even saw Yann Vasnier was the perfumer. I will be hunting these down to try 🙂

I’ve wanted to try a few of these, both this collection and others in the past, but just can’t imagine using up that much fragrance. However, the Cranberry sure sounds good.

MJ splashes so need to be launched in a miniature trio set every year. The Ivy in particular has been tempting since my daughter would love wearing something with her name on it, but I don’t know if the actual splash carries a scent she’d like and am loathed to buy a bottle unsniffed.

I agree a mini collection would be great! This is how Tocca won me over.

Oh – that’s a GREAT idea! MJ marketing, are you listening?

I bought Ivy unsniffed and while it’s lovely, I find it very masculine on me. I don’t get the candy cane accord at all, sadly. I have layered it with Lolita Lempicka though, which is nice.
