Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 7 January 2011 20 Comments

Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet perfume

Robert Piguet will launch Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet, the debut fragrance for New York-based designer Douglas Hannant, in February. It is the first original fragrance from Piguet since the 1960s.

Luxury womenswear designer, Douglas Hannant debuts Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet, a signature fragrance in collaboration with Robert Piguet Parfums. Inspired by the sophistication of haute couture, the fragrance is a light floral that is modern, clean and fresh. [...] Douglas Hannant embodies the legacy set forth by Robert Piguet, whose strict adherence to good taste, true luxury, and innate sense of seduction created timeless beauty.

The Douglas Hannant perfume was developed by perfumer Aurelien Guichard, and the notes include orange blossom, pear, gardenia, tuberose, jasmine, sandalwood and musk.

I will update with sizes and prices when I can. (via press release)

Update: Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet is available in 50 ($85) or 100 ($120) ml Eau de Parfum or in 30 ml ($210) Parfum. There is also a limited edition 60 ml Parfum ($350).

Another update: see a review of Douglas Hannant de Robert Piguet.

    ‘What are you wearing?’
    ‘Douglas Hannant.’

    Er, not me.

    I LIKE that bottle.

And, of course, a white floral always draws my attention. Might want to sniff… unless I forget all about it by the time it comes out.

Tuberose + gardenia by Aurelien Guichard is definitely worth a shot!

Hmm, kind of a modernized Fracas? Might be nice.

I could live with that, if it’s not too fresh. We’ll see!

Pear = no in my book. And “a light floral that is modern, clean and fresh” doesn’t sound the least bit Piguetish, at least based on the Piguet scents I’ve smelled.

I am not a big fan of pear. Or of clean/fresh. I am remaining hopeful!

Yes, I agree that “a light floral that is modern, clean and fresh” sounds like a million other department store scents and seems at odds with “sophistication of haute couture”

On the other hand, I’m glad that they didn’t go for the absurd, Killian-style marketing prose and that the notes all sound normal with no mention of molten woods, unicorn droppings and other such things.

I as well was turned off by the sentence ” Inspired by the sophistication of haute couture, the fragrance is a light floral that is modern, clean and fresh.” it’s almost laughable. Inspired by something that is totally eccentric original and extraordinary, we have made something totally safe and generic!

Still I will definitely try it, it could be a winner on me all the same. And out of respect for Robert I’ll try it!

I quickly dismissed the modernlightcleanfresh, but then saw it’s by Aurelien Guichard. I love his work!

I like the bottle–I am a big fan or dark colored glass.

Im confused. If the perfumer is Aurelien Guichard, and the designer is Douglas Hannant , what part did Robert Piguet play in this?

Also, “It is the first original fragrance from Piguet since the 1960s” means what? It doesnt seem like he did any thing but have his name in the title of the fragrance. In any case, didnt Futur just come out last year?

Robert Piguet (the company, not the man — Piguet himself is long since deceased) has done nothing but reissues since the 1960s; they’ve been reissuing fragrances from their archives. And Piguet made the fragrance…this is about the same as any other such deal, like the Daphne Guinness fragrance by Comme des Garcons, for instance.

I think Hannant maybe a sportswear influenced bridal designer, popular with the Hampton set.

Modern, clean and fresh? No thank you. If I want that, I’ll just wipe myself down with some laundry softener sheets. 😉

Or you could spray yourself with Febreze.

The concept reminds me of Hanae Mori’s Haute Couture.
