I want the Like button on this blog. 🙂 Agreeing with everyone here. Merry Christmas, Robin, and all fellow perfume lovers out there!

Which brings me to a question – what’s the masculine of perfumista? Perfumisto??? Never heard that one before!

Karin, I want a “like” button, too! My understanding is that “Perfumista” is appropriate for both sexes. Think “barista” and “Sandanista”.

I use it that way. I know some men use perfumeo, but that word sounds really ugly to me for some reason.

Do you mean a like button that’s connected to facebook? I was thinking of adding one, although I think it’s unfair there’s no “hate” button.

Or are you just sort of joshing?

I meant a Like button that we can click when someone posts a reply that we like…on this blog, not on FB.

That’s what I meant, too. It might also keep the discussion threads a bit more manageable (is “wieldy” a word, LOL?), because sometimes we add comments just to “second” a suggestion or strongly agree with someone else’s comment.

Don’t know why this occurred to me, but I’m suddenly wondering why the Mandom ad did not include sports along with the other masculine pillars of swanky nightclub, fast car, cigar, guns, horses and cologne overdose – is it an either/or thing? Maybe it’s better that you got a sports guy? Anyhoo, we’ll be glad to see you here, Daisy!

I think the variety of “manly pursuits” in the Mandom splash-mercial were geared toward Charles Bronson’s movie personas…which tended toward men with guns ; he always seemed to play gunslingers or cops. At least that’s all I’ve seen, I was pretty tiny in his heyday…but I do have that manly-movie-luvvin husband, so I’ve seen bits of these movies as I scurry thru the room in an attempt to get to a part of the house not inundated in the dulcet tones of gunfire & car crashes , gunfire & Indian attacks or gunfire & invading french coastline…sigh.

Happy holidays to everyone! I hope you all have a very smelly vacation. 🙂 I fear that I may not get any perfume for xmas. I have carefully monitored all of the boxes that come through here, and not a one looks like it’s from Luckyscent or Aedes. I guess it will just give me an excuse to do some New Year’s buying. (And I’ll have to add in two extra “I feel sorry for myself” bottles for working both Christmas and New Year’s.)

Sounds like an Apres-Christmas shopping spree is in order…and yes, 2 extras for sacrificing your holidays that others might stay home!
so…..what bottles have caught your eye?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone here @ NST!!
I’ve decided to wear No 5 Eau Premiere as my scent over the Christmas weekend. I want to poll non-scent addicts on what they smell in its composition. Sneaky much?! 😉

Buster has a very full schedule , what with being The King and all. Perhaps you should make it easier for him by putting your desired bottles in a cart online and then all he needs to do is press the checkout button.

Pierce and Andrew don’t like the perfume departments – they were traumatized as kittens when an SA indiscriminately sprayed them with Brittany Spears.

However, they *did* buy me some beautiful silver bangles and two-toned gold and silver earrings!

Thanks, Tamara! I was reading the most heart-warming article about the community of of Llanarmon-yn-lal in Wales banding together to rescue their pub, the Raven Inn, by donating their time and skills to keep it open. When the government closed their post office, they also got a license to operate a postal service at the Raven Inn two hours a week! This made me think about how the perfume blog and split community is like our internet-based neighborhood pub.

It’s always great to see you here, Tamara – muaah, muaah!

Exactly – there is a lovely Caron urn of Alpona behind the bar, teas scented with spices and flowers, cocktails that smell like perfume (I love the Violettini Precieuse, myself), the best and most innovative pub food ever, a Cire Trudon and luxurious hand cremes and soaps in the loo, and a host of fragrant, funny and wise regulars sharing samples! 🙂

May all your samples not work on your skin when your bank account gets low…

May all your expensive, unsniffed purchases turn into almost signature scents…

May you make new, decanting friends throughout the world who have access to limited edition releases unavailable in your country…

May your tastes broaden in the new year, leading to the discovery of new scents and appreciation of notes you once couldn’t wear…

May the scents of next year bring you excitement, comfort, wonder and joy, and serve as a reminder of this world’s startling beauty…

May you appreciate the hunt for the new scents, but also enjoy the old…

May you grow to learn what you love and feel confident in your tastes amid the tsunami of new releases…

And, may next year on this blog bring us much wisdom, laughter and friendship

    🙂

Merry Christmas Eve! …..I gave myself a present tonight—My precious little 20ml bottle of MAC Naked Honey was running a bit low….found a replacement bottle on ebay $44 shipped —considerably more than I paid for the original from MAC when it first came out….but I adore that fresh, realistic linden note…this is a favorite spring scent. Of course now that I paid almost double for a bottle , MAC will probably reissue it! (and everyone will have me to thank!)

You did the right thing. I– sadly– don’t think they’ll reissue it. They don’t seem to ever reissue *anything*, those bastards. (I say that with affection. I love their makeup, just wish their LE’s wouldn’t sell out before they even hit the makeup counters.)

Naked Honey isn’t one Iv managed to find. I like Mac’s dramatic colours and sense of fun but, at least where I live, the Mac consultants are REALLY obnoxious. In fact, I so dislike the experience i just wont shop there any more at all. It may be better in their boutiques, its the Mac section in the various department stores that is awful. No loss to them they are always crowded!

Oh I have almost done that myself a couple of times, and still might. I kind of want both of them – I get amazing compliments when I wear Africanimal.

I have to say the Afterlier Honey Blossom fills that lindeny need, but it is quite spendy.

That’s when you employ the “whew, is it hot in here or what?” flap,
probably doesn’t fool anyone either, but I do it anyhow.

I pretend that I’m “straightening” my shirt a lot at work. When I take my break at midnight and am all alone on the 4th floor of our building I just sit there with my sweater pulled up over my face. Not only do I get to smell my perfume, but I think I might also scare off anyone who wanders up there by mistake.

Merry Christmas! Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

I’m wearing Coromandel today which turned out to be the perfect choice, I’m really enjoying it. Last night I really craved and wore 31 Rue Cambon so it’s shaping up to be a Chanel Christmas 😀

I’m also enjoying Diptyque Pomander candle right now – a truly festive mix of orange, cloves, cinnamon etc. Very potent so I can smell it even when it’s unlit. It was a little consolation present to myself after I realised that I couldn’t get a small bottle of Sycomore yet.

On top of that, I was fortunate enough to win a bottle of Le Cologne Du Maghreb in Andy Tauer’s advent giveaway which really cheered me up. So that’s my lovely fragrant surprise this Christmas.

That Maghreb was my one fragrant gift this Christmas… but it arrived right on Christmas Eve, and I think it’s lovely. Fleeting even on me, but then again, I apply very lightly. As a cologne, it will be fabulous in the warmer weather, but bc it’s a Tauer, it has that little kick to it that makes it stand up to cold weather, too. Fantastic!

I’ll probably stash it away until the warmer weather but I had a little sniff of it and there’s a definite dose of incense among all the citrus in there so I definitely agree that you could easily wear it year round too.

I know a lot of people like to pull out warm weather scents in the middle of winter just to dream…but that never works for me. With this one, bc of the incense, I think it could work.

I wanted to wear Fragonard Cette Nuit La wich some sent as an extra in a swap. I thought it would be perfect for Christmas Day. But my samples aren’t organized well and I couldn’t find it 🙁
So, I wore Nuits Enchantees instead by Laura Mercier. No perfume gifts were given to me, but from the outlaw sample set I bought for myself Rose of Cimarron-it’s just gorgeous!

After samples and samples of ELDO Tilda Swinton Like This… I am now the happy owner of a full bottle! I also received a beautiful set of Elemental Herbology bath oils (which I may end up wearing as perfume…)

Please share if you opened some fragrant joys today! And happy holidays to everyone!

Well, I didn’t receive any more perfume for christmas yesterday (bummer), but it was a wonderful day.
I did, however, win the Le Labo draw at Bois de Jasmin! A bottle of Poivre 23 will soon be sniffed by me. 😉

SOTD yesterday was Avignon. It just seemed appropriate for a Christmas Eve service, which we end by lighting candles and singing “Silent Night”. SOTD today was DSH Cardamom and Khyphi. The warm spiciness smells so festive. Besides, it is one of the few scents my hyposmic husband can smell on me. Unfortunately, it does not last long on my scent-eating skin. I have this problem with a lot of perfumes, especially those that are all-natural or mostly-natural ingredients.

Oh, and the DH’s SOTD was Sables, which was one of my Christmas gifts to him. I do get the maple syrup note from it, but that is OK–I like maple syrup. Between his maple syrup and my spices, we must have smelled good enough to eat.

Avignon is a great choice! Today a cool front is coming through south florida so I wore Egoiste to church-I enjoyed sitting in my own cloud of spices!
It’s supposed to get down to the 30’s tonight so I’ll have to bring my orchid collection inside (I have almost as many orchids as I do perfumes)!

That must be the same cold front that came through Texas last night. It got down to 34 early this morning.

Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas! I didn’t get any fragrance, but that was expected. But I did get one fragrance-related book – Mandy Aftel’s Natural History of Perfume. My hubby is not a huge fan of perfume since he gets migraines often, but know how much I love it and how much I enjoy reading all the perfume blogs. I had never mentioned this before either – he found it all on his own, so I was pretty impressed!

That is impressive! My husband never picks up the hints I drop, even when applied with a heavy hand. He doesn’t realize when he is giving me hints, either. He will mention liking something or having always wanted something, and then when he gets it for Christmas, he’ll ask “Oh, how did you know I always wanted one of these?”

My smelly gift was from my housemate (and the man I would have married were he not gay) – he got me an Introduction to Perfumery set from The Perfumer’s Apprentice. I’m so excited – I think I will try to make myself a nice jasmine first. Wheeeee!!!!! Plus of course I have to go to the site to see what *else* they have….

My parents are going through a bit of a rough patch, so they can’t afford many presents. Though mom did jockingly say I should just buy myself a gift and that it would be ‘from them’ in spirit… so it can’t hurt to take her advice on in awhile and do what she says 😉

I had to work during the holidays so I didn’t make it home for Christmas, but I’ll be there for New Year’s Eve with my present from mom in tow. It will either be Santal Blanc, which I’ve wanted for months, or Messe de Minuit, which I’ve only worn twice but really loved.

Mom is getting En Passant. Lilacs are her favorite flower and they don’t grow where she’s living now. Dad is getting Guerlain’s Vetiver, which I hope to borrow and wear while I’m home too.
