Amouage Library Collection Opus IV ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 5 November 2010 14 Comments

Amouage Library Collection Opus IV

Next month, Amouage launches Opus IV, the fourth fragrance in the Library Collection (see Opus I, II and III):

The latest inspiring creation was especially crafted to instill knowledge and empowerment in efforts to promote HIV / AIDS awareness by Creative Director Christopher Chong, who worked assiduously with renowned perfumers in Grasse. “Our fragrances have always centered on delivering a distinct and compelling message, not just the creation of artistic and beautiful scents,” expressed Chong. “With the startling number of new HIV infection cases reported globally each year, education remains a powerful and paramount instrument to prevent the spread of HIV and grant universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services. Opus IV is our contribution to raising awareness on this growing epidemic across all corners of the globe, which today is one of the world’s most pressing public health matters.”

50% of the profits from Opus IV will go to the National HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program (NAP) in Oman.

Opus IV was developed by perfumer Jacques Flori; the notes include lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, coriander, elemi, cardamom, cumin, rose berries, rose, violet leaf, labdanum, frankincense and musk.

Amouage Opus IV will be available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via press release)

This is for a good cause and the notes sound nice, but I wonder if it would be better if they gave some of the percentage to other AIDS organization as well as Oman.

Amouage is an Omani company, so not a surprising choice.

It is a good cause, and 50% of the profit is sort of a whopping contribution (good job Amouage!) but so far none of the Opus line has done a thing for me. Plus they recently cleaned me out on Memoir woman…

Have not loved the Opus scents so far either.

I appreciate the cause and their generosity — but why is this coming out as part of the Library Collection, I wonder, instead of just a general release?

Great cause, great note list, great perfumer! Not too familiar with “rose berries”, but otherwise usually really enjoy all those notes and I really admire and enjoy Flori’s work for Etro. 50% is a generous amount of those high Opus prices, too. I haven’t been grabbed by the releases for any of the overwhelmingly numerous new Amouage scents, but after Jessica’s review of Opus III today and this news, I’ll have to get interested again.

Pretty sure that’s “rose baies” badly translated… I think it’s pink pepper(corns), though don’t hold me to it.

I assumed the same – pink pepper.

I initially thought so, too, but it seemed odd, since the rest of the English (translation?) was okay and pink pepper is a common ingredient that Amouage copywriters would have dealt with before, in Opus II, for example. So I thought they’d come up with some new, exotic rose berries for us 🙂

Re why a perfume is released in the Library line: To me, the Opus perfumes are qualitatively different than the main Amouage perfumes – they seem less exotic and complex. They are not linear, but they generally have a less oriental concentration. I hope I’m expressing this adequately. My “smelling” sense is improving, but my descriptive powers are still lagging… Still, enjoyed all three as well as the new Memoir, which smells delish on me. Favorites are still Epic, Lyric and Ubar.

Well I finally got sample of Opus ine just haven’t had time to try them yet. But I do have Memoir Man and love it. This one looks good to me. Nice to see a company commit so much to a good cause.

    Cheers!

Also love Flori’s Etro scents, so I’m looking forward to sampling his work for Amouage.

Also rather touched to see Amouage make this commitment to HIV/AIDS awareness – hurrah for Amouage!
