Looks like a cheap imitation of 1 Million… $100 perhaps?

exactly what i thought! but instead of building to a climax, it suddenly drops down into half time and ends… what?! i almost feel like the guy is like, “wait, what is this stuff i’m spraying again???”

It reminded me of 1 Million and Sean John I Am King.

Gosh, the narrator at the end had an awful voice! How’d he get the job? And what’s up with the guys in fragrance ads spraying the perfume in their faces?! Someone needs to show these people how to apply scent. LOL

I was very freaked by that voice. It’s unusual for a fragrance commercial, for sure.

Yes, I was cringing at the monotone voice at the end – was he selling insurance or a cologne?
The spray in the face was excruciating but the whole ad was so pushy aspirational – sexy young money hungry . . . and then the sex, again.
      Its been done better.

I wondered who directed it. If it’s not him, then they need Baptisto to re-do the whole thing.

What a silly way to NOT capitalize on a well-beloved brand and image. Zippo is not a fashion model.
Zippo is a soldier lighting his way through a building in urban compat; Zippo is fan holding up a light at the end of a rock concert (in the pre-cell phone era).

And why not notes of tobacco or patchouli, even if the commercial does not identify the more common uses of a Zippo to light various types of smokes?

Doubt either of those images sell fragrance….

I think a lot of guys do fondly remember Zippos from their military service days. That’s why they collect them. (Zippos have different designs on them, including some relating to military service, and people do collect them). That’s probably why Zippo thought that they had the right brand identity to market a fragrance to men. A commercial which recalled those associations, rather than a very chic upperclass model, would make more sense.
I had no idea that Zippo was in the underwear business.

I do find zippos to be somehow loveable. And NOTHING in that ad was loveable. More to the point – they have character – and that ad totally lacked character. Pretty girl getting out of bed, and the guy is looking at his own reflection in his lighter/perfume – blah! Some army image may have suggested loyalty, comraderie (sorry bout spelling), or courage. Or there could have been something about danger, rebellion or devotion – eg. rock concert. Okay, I admit it, almost anything would have been an improvement!

Why do the woman’s feet positioned pigeon-toed annoy me so much? Is it supposed to convey doubt or insecurity? Or am I the only person perplexed? Probably 😉

That shot looked to me like it was supposed to convey “coy”. I don’t go looking for strong, secure women in perfume ads — I hardly notice this kind of stuff anymore.

I’m glad someone else noticed that. As Robin said, I’m not expecting to see strong women in these ads, but on that shot she looked, well…clubfooted. But it just fits, because everything about this ad felt off-kilter and unfortunate.

    Oh, My, God.

This just blows my mind. OK – my perfume habit is a total secret from my family (except tolerant hubby). My DAD works for Zippo!! I had no idea. OMG. I need to find out who in the art department designed that bottle!!!! Ack. This is too much. Now I need to see if I can get a hold of a demo to see how it smells. Ha.

Did you all know that for many many years Zippo has a whole line of panties that they sell in China??? I won’t even get started on the international swap meet…. Zippo = USA to the world like Coke or Levis or Marlboro Man. I will wonder excessively now how much popularity this fragrance will have abroad. It seems so awful, but now I must have that bottle for my collection.

I guess it is a situation we might use to depict Anns’ feelings: ‘be still my beating heart’, right?

If it doesn’t, you should still be able to use it to light cigarettes!

The face spraying thing didn’t seem to me like a wise decision to put in an ad where you want to sell a fragrance. It makes it look as if he finds it less than favorable.
