Escentric Molecules Molecule 03, Escentric 03 ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 19 October 2010 13 Comments

Escentric Molecules Escentric 03

Perfumer Geza Shoen's Escentric Molecules line has launched their third fragrance duo, this one focused on vetiver:

Molecule 03 ~ "The [sole] aroma-chemical in Molecules 03 is vetiveryle acetate, a refined vetiver note which is celebrated at its purest in this fragrance."

Escentric 03 (shown) ~ "Escentric 03 is a tribute to the more familiar side of vetiver: its dark, slightly exotic woodiness. The fragrance opens with a burst of freshness – the ginger root is joined by top notes of green peppercorn and Mexican lime. The heart of orris is surrounded by Egyptian jasmine and soft tea notes. Then, at the base of the fragrance, the slightly bitter notes of vetiver are smoothed by rich amber shades of sandalwood, cedar, leather and musk."

Escentric Molecules Molecule 03 and Escentric 03 are $135 for 100 ml Eau de Toilette, and can be pre-ordered now at Aedes or Luckyscent.

Update: see reviews of Escentric Molecules Molecule 03 and Escentric 03.

Now, this, at least the Escentric 03, sounds, to me, much more interesting than the others in the line, and, actually, quite interesting in general!

Can I just voice one pet peeve about the Escentric Molecules series? I don’t mind the cultish following for the brand, and I actually really like the Escentrics of the series (the Molecules, I have to say, leave me cold). But one thing that really bugs me about their packaging is that the bottles have NO CAP! How annoying is that? I don’t know about you, but I usually take my bottles out of their boxes (if I got them with any); so a cap is rather essential (to keep the atomizer from clogging). This no cap thing forces me to keep them in the box, which is more of a hassle to use, and I end up not reaching for it as often… Some other companies do that, too (Miller Harris, Costume National, etc.) and I just find it so obnoxious! Which is why I’ll just wait for this to come out in their new travel packaging; hopefully the aluminum casing is more convenient than a cardboard box…

Admit I do not care in the least about caps, and don’t bother to keep capless (or any) scents in their boxes — but I know many people do care. Sorry!

I have to say I’ve had my bottle of EM 01 over a year, and I’ve not had clogging problems. I tend towards hating bottles without caps, but the design of the spray head is infinitely more pleasant than say, the sticky-outy cheap white plastic spray head of a bottle of Tea Rose if you didn’t have the cap. I’m really excited about E3 for the lime, ginger and tea – the lime is so wonderfully crisp in E1.

    According to Luckyscent:
“MeCompany’s packaging has always been a star in the Escentric story, complementing the allusive nature of the fragrances themselves with striking visuals.. . ., the packaging for 03 has a mood that is organic but mysterious, suggesting something dark moving just below the surface of things, something you can’t quite put your finger on. As much as it is a visual introduction to another seductive chapter in the unfolding Escentric Molecules saga, it is also a testament to the inscrutable power of scent itself.”

According to the photo of the bottle for E3, “the something you can’t quite put your finger on” will be the cap.
Actually, since perfumes are aromas, it is pretty hard to put your finger on any of them once they have been atomized.

    Sooooo curious about Escentric03.

Ginger? Orris? Vetiver? Ack… perfect lemming storm.

Yet I’m resisting an unsniffed split. Will wait to sample.

I haven’t tried any of this line for some reason. The molecules don’t interest me much beyond reference sampling. This sounds nice, although I just bought two vetivers! Probably can wait.

I don’t know why, but this line has always flown in under my radar. Then again, I’m sure a lot of things have. I think I’ve finally given up on trying to try everything.

I am so excited about this! I really like the Escentric line and agree with Arch.Memory about the Molecule line. They recently release a travel size of the 01 which includes (if you so desire) a metal box to hold the bottle. I also like the smaller size. I might just order this unsniffed!

I used to work with Geza Shoen and he was doing some strange things with pefumery back then so I’m looking forward to checking this one out! Love the simple packaging.
