Ralph Lauren will launch a quartet of new fragrances for men, the Big Pony Collection, next month. The fragrances are named for the Big Pony polo shirts and other fashion items.

Big Pony 1 ~ the sporty & dynamic entry; an aromatic citrus with lime and oak. Blue bottle.

Big Pony 2 ~ a seductive oriental fougère with dark chocolate and musk. Red bottle.

Big Pony 3 ~ a woody fougère for adventure, with ginger and mint. Green bottle.

Big Pony 4 ~ a fruity woody fragrance for the stylish man, with grapefruit and kyara wood. Orange bottle.

The Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection fragrances will be available in 75 and 125 ml Eau de Toilette; there will also be a coffret with all four fragrances in smaller bottles. (via jebe.de, myparfuemerie.de,allure.it, marieclaire.it)

Big Pony?!! Big Pony? That’s the name they come up with for a men’s cologne? LOL! Big Pony sounds like a well hung mobster.

I was really surprised when I first heard it, but then I had never heard of the clothing under that name, and apparently it’s really very popular. So!

When I first saw the image, I thought it was something horrid from Benneton. It seems like it is something horrid from RL in stead. I hope one of the fragrances is that “gorgeous” pink with a green “big pony” (lol) on. “Sporty and dynamic” Lovely…
Now! I want to see Brokeback Mountain.

And Benetton just did a set of 4 colors, for that matter.

You wait & see — if they’re at all good, they’ll sell! That’s probably what they were thinking 😉

Will have to wait to hear longer descriptions, assuming we’re going to get any…so far, hard to say.

Well again, did you know about the shirts? I sure didn’t. And if you’d asked me in advance, would not have thought they’d be a big hit, but apparently they are.

I love Kelly Red’s comment about the gangster. God how I wish I was still working fragrance retail so I could hear those teenage boys come up to the counter and ask for “Polo Big Pony” number whatever. I actually used to like the Polo logo shirts back in1982-83 when I was in my horsey-girl phase. But even a 12 year old me would have looked at those giant polo logos on those shirts and said “I like horses, but I don’t like them *that* much!”

…And then there was that broken bottle of Polo in the boy’s locker room in junior high (gag!).

I have done a double-take on the shirts – I thought they were cheap knockoffs that sized the embroidery wrong. I mean, that polo dude is about 6 inches tall.

Big Pony is not the best name, but kinda beats Bang.

It is interesting that by posing in the nude, MJ sort of kept anyone from bothering to discuss the name Bang. I like it though — it’s funny.

Can anytime tell me when Wild Horse is coming out? What makes big pony better than wild horse? Is big pony like big baby? Why don’t they just call it Polo Pony Collection or Polosophy or Polo Prestige or Polo Champions? Polo Jockey Collection? Big Pony? Did someone run out of ideas? I guess I’ll just need to accept Big Pony. I’ll just go up to my Bloomingdales counter and ask for 3 Big Ponies. Hope they don’t ask me to go to the Kentucky Derby or the Belmont Racetrack! Even worse, they get insulted by the question. I like my pony to smell like mint. No wait a minute, I want my Pony to smell like patchouli! I guess the most important thing is that its new and its from Ralph Lauren so maybe nobody cares what its called.

Big Pony refer to the Polo shirts with the big pony on the front and big ponies on the back of the shirts. These shirts are popular with teens and young adults. Hence the name of the colognes which I feel is quite appropriate because that is what consumers refer to the shirts as anyway. I look forward to trying them all.

If you were familiar with the Polo Ralph Lauren label, Big Pony as a name is really quite assimilated into the mainstream fashion vernacular. No one blinks twice when saying it.

Though some of the above comments are funny – well-hung mobster lol!

I spy…The Big Ponies in Buenos Aires!

    On-paper review:
Big Pony 1 ~ aromatic citrus with lime and “Marine” air.Very Generic! Blue bottle.

Big Pony 2 ~oriental fougère but the dark chocolate I cannot find…Sales Assistant said it reminded her of habit rouge (cool sales assistant, she was right! but only a third of the power and “sanitized” more citrus than Habit Rouge ver had. Red bottle.

Big Pony 3 ~ a woody fougère …yes , with ginger and mint…well yes on the ginger but I cannot find the mint (a good one for me). Green bottle and the one i like from the foursome.

Big Pony 4 ~ a fruity woody yes, but his one reminds me of habit rouge too!! the “warm” notes actually. Orange bottle.

Big Pony is also a pretty funny name for Londoners who know Cockney rhyming slang where “pony” means ‘rubbish’ from “Pony and Trap = Crap”.
