Nature Capitale in Paris

Posted by Robin on 20 May 2010 7 Comments

Intl Biodiversity Day in Paris

This Saturday, May 22nd, is the International Day for Biological Diversity. In Paris, the Champs Elysées will be transformed by Gad Weil's Nature Capitale into a "green oasis" between the Arc de Triomphe and Rond Point, with 8000 garden plots featuring over over 150 plant and tree species:

This ephemeral botanical 3-hectare creation created by Gad Weil and the visual artist and landscape artist Laurence Medioni will, with the help of agricultural and forestry professionals, put the spotlight on “Nature fashioned by Man” but also on the fragile balance between human beings and their environment. 8,000 “fragments” of more than 150 plants and trees will form a huge mosaic — a testimony to biodiversity in France.

Guerlain will participate with Prairie des Senteurs, four plots featuring the house's iconic flowers: rose, magnolia, syringa, peony and more. You can find an interactive map of the gardens here; the plots will remain in place until May 24th.

    *sigh*
Too late to buy my tickets… and with that volcano thing, those tickets might even prove useless.

I will miss it too, but it’s bound to look absolutely stunning, like when the Place Vendôme was turned into a lavender field.

And apparently this same group did a wheat field on the Champs Elysées in 1990? I missed that too.

Oh, yes, they did. Didn’t see that either.
