Dolce & Gabbana The One Gentleman ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 14 May 2010 41 Comments

Dolce & Gabbana The One Gentleman

Dolce & Gabbana will launch The One Gentleman, a new fragrance for men in the popular The One range, this September. Like 2008's The One for Men, The One Gentleman will be fronted by actor Matthew McConaughey.

The One Gentleman "has an understated oriental note, conceived to attract a sophisticated and confident consumer"; the notes include pepper, lavender, fennel, cardamom, patchouli and vanilla.

Dolce & Gabbana The One Gentleman will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products. (via wwd)

I have no interest in the fragrance, but I do have to say that they couldn’t have picked a better front-man. Matthew thinks he *is* The One – so, it’s a perfect match!

yes, he certainly seems to think he’s “the One” but he doesn’t strike me as very gentlemanly. Right now I’m hard pressed to think of who might fit that “gentleman” part…even if it was just a veneer of sophistication covering the tough alpha-male …. I’ll let you all come up with a name….I’ve got a volunteer thing to do today , so I’m outta here. 🙂

Good point. I overlooked the “gentleman” issue.

easy to do considering the hugeness of his ego can be quite distracting…

Hm, I nominate Daniel Craig. Not that I follow celeb stuff enough anymore to have a clue if he *is* gentlemanly, but he has that look, at least.

Daniel Craig! Indeed! If in a parallel universe I wasn’t married and had a date with him, including dinner out, I hope (for his own sake) he would choose a good energetic zabaione for dessert. 😉

p.s. I think his James Bond character wears Creed Green Irish Tweed. But I don’t find it particularly suited to the musky-flowery smell I associate with Mr. Daniel Craing.

2nd the Clive Owen. Love him in “Derailed” (with Jennifer Aniston).

The MM commercial for The One For Men was a crack up.

Haha, whenever I see Matthew McConaughey, I think he looks dirty/stenchy. I suppose he could use some D&G The One.

Don’t you know that D&G is shorthand for “Dirty and Grimy”? 😉

I read somewhere that he didn’t like to wear fragrance (or antiperspirant) because it interfered with his natural “man-scent” and considering that in almost every picture I’ve seen of him he looks like he’s been skimping on the basic hygiene….it makes me think that his natural man-scent might be a little iccky. So while I’ve never liked anything D&G —this whole development can only be a good thing…

I wonder if Clive Owen is still under contract at Lancome? He is much more gentlemanly, and swoon-worthy for that matter, than McConaughey could ever dream of being.

No, Owen will be the face of upcoming (in fall) scent of Bvlgari, very “gentlemany” as well.

Harry Connick Jr., Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan = famous gentlemen
George Clooney = famous non-gentleman who’d sell bottles fast
Matthew McConaughey = filthy man who I do not care to smell

After seeing A Single Man, I figure Tom Ford should be about ready to use Colin Firth in a perfume ad. He was so perfectly hot and Tom Ford-ish in that film!

The original The One was pretty standard fair, but pleasant in an ordinary way. Frankly, if it were a drugstore fragrance it would be a great buy. The thing that puzzles me about this one is that the flanker is that it is another oriental, which I like, but typically we would have got, “The One Sport” or “The One Intense.” I think this is a good development. Incidentally, have we not had enough of MM talk already in the first review of “The One?” I’m sick of hearing about him.

I don’t have a problem with Matt being the face of “The One”. I did not purchase the original fragrance but it is a huge hit and my friend picked it up. I look forward to trying the new fragrance and it may be a definate purchase for me.

MM looks rugged and not like a gentleman at all. I’d say +1 for Daniel Craig, Sean Connery, and Diego Luna (for the “young gentleman” look)

Disliked the original intensely, so I hope this turns out to be better.

The bottle and juice somewhat resemble Gucci Pour Homme II though.

Ok this definitely needs a real test! I am in luv w/ the scent strip in a mag. I tried today. It is really nice and I hope it shows up at Nordies & Macys and such real real soon! It is so nice and it was love at 1st whiff but I really have to test it cuz I know those scent strips can be deceiving. LOL! : )

Gentleman smells just like The One original but with an added “elegance”, a powdery note? and it lasts longer. but it smells less of tobacco and more oriental I think. I really can’t make my mind up which I like better :/
