Find out what is going on inside the perfumer’s mind

Posted by Robin on 12 April 2010 4 Comments

Will Andrews of the Fragrance Creation Team at Procter & Gamble will be giving a talk, The science of scent: Adventures in a creative mind, at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London:

Where do the sparkling, creative ideas for new perfumes come from? How are they translated into scent without compromising the creative purity of the idea? This lecture – the third in the series – covers one of the most abstract perfumery subjects: the creative origin of new perfumes. Find out what is going on inside the perfumer’s mind, how it is nurtured to deliver those scented moments of true brilliance, and how the ideas are developed into tomorrow’s perfume classics.

The talk will take place on Wednesday, 21 April from 7 to 8:30 pm. Tickets are £4-8, and you can register here.

If you can't make the talk, you can listen to Will Andrews talk about fragrance on the Science Weekly podcast at The Guardian.

    Fantastic! I’ve just bought tickets!

Thanks so much for putting out the word, Robin. Those of us with our heads in the sand truly appreciate it.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but does anyone else see the irony of this topic being presented by the company whose business model is to buy great fragrance houses and then gut them of all creativity and quality? I am still in mourning for Jean Patou, probably always will be….

Not sure what goes on at JP or if it’s all P&G’s fault, but in general, yes…
