Monsoon Elation ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 6 April 2010 14 Comments

Monsoon Elation fragrance

UK clothing retailer Monsoon has launched Elation, a new fragrance for women:

Feminine and opulent. Monsoon Elation combines the freshness of sparkling citrus top notes and aromatic white tea with the floral scent of freesia. Undertones of crisp rose and apple blossom combined with base notes of warm woods and sheer white musk add an underlying feminine feel to this sophisticated and vibrant fragrance.

Monsoon Elation is available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette, £19.50. (via monsoon, found via sofeminine.co.uk)

Never heard of this brand…ever. Notes sound nice—nothing scary like “evil stinky raspberry” . I really like the bottle and the packaging–not that packaging really matters to me because I usually toss the boxes into the attic ….which reminds me to begin pestering the CEO for a larger perfume cabinet or I won’t be able to fit anymore of anything anywhere….

It’s a UK chain. I think they do have stores here but not so many (?)

Monsoon (also owns a store called Accessorize that it is twinned with on its website) that sells clothes, bags, accessories in sort of an exotic style theme. It’s huge – around here every UK high street or shopping centre tends to have a Body Shop, Topshop, and Monsoon/Accessorize.

        I’ve seen Accessorize…I think.

Like the packaging as well, but apple blossom…nope.

Whoever designed the bottle should be ashamed, because they took the bottle for La Voce and made one small tweak to each of its elements (frosted glass instead of clear, opaque rather than clear stopper, smooth rather than spiky collar). When you’re reduced to ripping off La Voce, you’re really hit the bottom.

I suppose, though, that at that price point, originality and art are the last things we should expect.

Ha! I’ve never heard of La Voce either!
It’s quiet and dark here under my rock…..

I’ve *heard* of it, but never smelled it. And I think it’s one of those pricey LE things – sure, it’s Coty, but $200 a pop ain’t your average Coty.

I actually thought this Monsoon thing sounded like a nice wallpaper, inexpensive scent – and I really like that bottle. Not that I need any more wallpaper scents…

Oh, right, forgot about that one. We posted it too, ages ago.

I’m not surprised you forgot about La Voce, because it’s hard to come by: I think the only place they sell it is in the gift shop of the Metropolitan Opera (aka Lincoln Center), and it’s a mind-warping $200 for a 50-mL spray, which even Serge Lutens or Bois 1920, proper perfume houses, don’t have the nerve to charge. (I only got to smell it because I happened to be at the Met last year–we saw Turandot, which was absolutely, utterly fantastic.)

La Voce as a scent is exactly as cheap and junky as you would expect it to be: it’s insanely expensive because 1) it has the image of a famous opera singer attached to it, and she’s gotta get her cut, 2) the packaging is gimmicky-elaborate (the box is a miniature stage with little hinged doors and a drawer at the bottom containing a pin-back which turns the fancy collar of the bottle into a brooch), and 3) part of the proceeds go to the support of the Met.

Hysterical to hear it’s cheap & junky, though I guess it shouldn’t be! But really, just proves you can sell anything with the right name on the product.

I must be under the same rock as Daisy…I like the notes in this scent and would like to try it, but not if I can’t find it in the U.S. I don’t mind falling in love, but I do hate falling in love hopelessly…

Almost sure they have stores in the US, but don’t know if it’s just in NY or not.
