I let my subscriptions to Allure and Lucky lapse. Maybe I only imagined that there used to be more perfume coverage, or perhaps there was a time when I cared about things other than perfume, but whatever the case, they just don’t do it for me anymore.

It takes me less than 15 minutes to go through Allure every month…there is rarely anything I’m tempted to really read. So ditto.

Funny–I was just thinking this morning that Allure might have been what got me seriously caught up in perfume. They had a big spread on the Les Exclusifs when they came out, and I went on a big search online to find them. I came across all sorts of other exciting things, but didn’t realize the LE’s were only sold in Chanel boutiques until after about a year of searching.

Interesting! I got hooked at MakeupAlley, so no surprise I still prefer online reading to paper.

I think Allure also is what started me into the perfume craze – they interviewed Luca and Tania and they mentioned some of their favorite perfumes. It must have been when the guide first came out? Luca was crazy about Missoni and I found it so strange that it had a “chocolate” accord , so I stopped into Nordstrom and asked if they had a tester. They didn’t, but I did lots of testing and started reading more about perfumes and finding blogs like this!

I also recently let my Allure, Lucky, and Vogue subscriptions go – Real Simple is the last one I still get. I was surprised by their spring fragrance page in the last issue – Bond No. 9 High Line was recommended! Also the new Chloe, and a few more I can’t remember at the moment.

I like Real Simple, although I don’t subscribe.

I got it as a Christmas gift and I do enjoy it. Not usually much in the way of perfume coverage though!
Here are their recs for “fresh new scents”
        Marc Jacobs Pomegranate Splash
        Chanel Chance Eau Tendre EdT
        Chloe Eau de Fleurs Neroli
        Leila Lou perfume (oil)
        ck One Summer
        Bond No. 9 High Line

In the latest Vanity Fair (the one with Michael Douglas on the cover)
there’s a scent strip with Balenciaga Paris.
VF is the only one of the lot I still subscribe to, the rest is professional and parenting magazines – bo-ring!
